calc point launch open yet?

Is the point launch open yet?

cmp7334 03-13-2015 08:23 AM

Not Open Yet

No. Just talked to CPPJ facilities management and it shouldn't be long. Weather held them up this week from finishing.

juicegoose 03-13-2015 10:41 AM

Be awesome if it was open by next weekend.

jl8200 03-14-2015 03:44 PM

I went by there today by boat and looked at it. From what I could see from the water, it looked pretty much complete. They still had hurricane fencing blocking it off. Also the boat launch concrete wasn't changed out. It looked like just the parking lot concrete was changed out. It was my understanding that they were replacing the boat launch concrete due to erosion underneath. Who knows...

express5 03-14-2015 06:00 PM

If you dont mind me asking where did you launch from?

jl8200 03-14-2015 06:57 PM

I live in a neighborhood by the Lake Charles Country Club and we have a private launch in our neighborhood so I launched from there. A lot of the time I just leave from there so I don't have to fight the crowds at the public launches. There is a really good launch at Prien Lake Park in Lake Charles for the people wanting to launch out of the Lake Charles area. The only real other option on the East side is Hebert's Marina but ill bet its crowded right now with Cal Point being closed.

Never felt crowded at a Louisiana boat launch, but we fish mostly afternoons.

In Colorado, the boat launches could get crowded when a T storm hit and everyone returned to the launch at the same time.

Guy Brame said maybe this coming Wednesday if the weather holds.

jl8200 03-14-2015 09:14 PM

Yall thing the fishing's gonna be good tomorrow on Big Lake? I may go tomorrow morning and see what I can do. Im just not too sure if the salinity is high enough right now.

Trout rivers 03-14-2015 11:55 PM

Last I checked salinity was around 14 which plenty good enough I've caught specks in the single digits and definitely reds and flounder! I'd be going if work wasn't so busy.

Looks like a couple of things to dodge getting to the launch.

Well right now the salinity in Hackberry is 6.0ppt. Pretty low...

Just use all those surveillance cameras you have in your vehicle to see where you are going lol.

marshrunner757 03-16-2015 02:59 PM

According to KPLC. It will open Wednesday

juicegoose 03-16-2015 04:07 PM

Can't wait to use that new/old ramp concrete and only drive 2 miles to the camp

cajunwader 03-17-2015 05:03 PM

I was there at 4:30 pm today. Contractor said it will be open at midnight! They were taking down the fence around the new concrete. Only thing left to do is the landscaping inside the curb islands!

juicegoose 03-18-2015 12:27 PM

Well has anyone gone by to check out the landing yet? is it open?

AubreyLaHaye458 03-18-2015 12:52 PM

Do any of you launch there alone? That is one of the most unfriendly one-person launches I know of. Man I'm worn out will all the running around to/from. And I hate that my trailer sits bubbling in salt water for many minutes while I hustle to/from the dock on the other side. I'm a very fast loader/unloader when alone, but that place just kills me, LOL.

I launch there by myself most of the time. I just take my time. It is what it is. There's three ramps for a reason.

You gotta do what you gotta do. Can't fault someone wanting to fish. When I launch solo, I try to have everything ready when I back down to minimize time. People tend to get a little antsy waiting but its just a few minutes.

jl8200 03-20-2015 04:19 PM

The way they have the launch laid out it looks to be more restricted the way the launch is accessed now. Im not sure how well its going to work since it appears to have a bottleneck...

marty f 03-20-2015 05:17 PM

I always launch alone. Theres 3 lanes. it is what it is

Bluechip 03-20-2015 07:31 PM

I know some of the renovations was to make the whole facility totally handicap accessible.

So if it means a person doesn't have a pasture to turn there trailer around, I'm ok with it. An extra 5 or 10 minutes won't kill anyone.
