Best lightweight ar10???
Christensen arms ca-10??
|
6lb rifle without a loaded mag and a scope up top? Probably gonna push 7.5lbs after that. probably could build one being in the same weight class probably for a bit cheaper but the quality of parts used may suffer to some degree.
I just built my wife's for 600$ and it weighs in on its own w/o red dot, fore grip, and mag just under 6lbs. With everything loaded up it barely feels like theres anymore weight at how well its balanced out. |
Under 6lbs for ar10 .308?
|
Also looking at LRP07 .308 but I'm seeing it's in the 9-10 lb range
Started out wanting to build a custom ar10 but I'm finding all the components don't fit together like ar15.223 parts do |
Yeh AR 10 is the way to go. I got a Sig AR 15 and I've only shot it like 3 times. I would use it if it was a .308 Matter of fact, anyone wanna buy my AR 15 so I can upgrade??
|
No wife's AR is 5.56; obviously lighter ammunition requiring less bulky parts which means less weight.
If you want to spend the money, I just saw a .308 rifle on youtube that looked pretty sick…$5,000 H&K MR762A1LRP https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H82xJvh9SE0 If you do a lot of digging around and actually researching parts to build with you can probably build a nice one. Also check out fultonarmory.com they have some nice guns there |
I think I'm gonna get the christensen arms ... 7 lbs is light as c hit
|
Go for it. Looks like a good rifle

What does the DPMS weigh?
|
The dpms light hunter was on my list also but it's not the quality I'm looking for same with smith and Wesson m&p
Both dpms and m&p were under 8 lbs if you put a floating hand gaurd |

This is the lightest .308 on an AR platform that is available today. I don't know what info you have on DPMS quality but it's your dime. |

M&P 10 is in the 7.7 range, great accuracy too.
He shows grouping with multiple grains, as well as grouping from a DPMS he uses. Also plinking consistent out to 700 yds.. http://youtu.be/-JPnPFp2G44 Sent |
Checked out the Christensen website. Pretty impressive.

I own a DPMS a Bushmaster a Rock River and used to own a Custom in .223/5.56. IMO the DPMS is every bit as good as any of the more expensive rifles and shoots just as well. If I was in the market for an AR10 that is what I would go with.
I think the AR market is about saturated and the prices are going down. There are just so many out there now. Let us know what you go with and how you like it. |
I think I'm off the christensen now after speaking to a local dealer that told me 3/4 of the semi auto christensen rifles they sell have to be sent back to christensen for one reason or another . So......
This is what I'm looking at now 1) Wilson Combat .308 ( 8-9 lb range ) 2) JP enterprises LRP07 3) GA percision GAP10 ( awesome gun but in the 10.5-11.5 lb range) 4) also looked at the HK but don't like that you have to by their 80$ mags I'll let u know what I go with as far a rifle I did decide on my optics though : Vortex razor gen2 1-6 |
You definitely picked the right scope. One other factor that may affect your choice will be the availability of the various brands/models and how long you are willing to wait.
|
Vortex are awesome scopes. I have a set of their binoculars and they are every bit as good as my buddy's Stieners. Good luck picking a rifle. Half the fun is the shopping.
Why so set on a AR-10? Have you thought of a 300 blackout/whisper in a AR platform? That is an awesome round with ton's of versatility. I have a Contender barrel in 300 Whisper and shoot 220 gr bullets loaded down to subsonic velocity. It's as quiet as a .22 rimfire. Loaded that way its so easy to suppress and if you want to shoot smaller 120 gr bullets you can load it to near .308 velocities. In a AR you can make it into a super light weight package. |

all rifles im looking at are avilble through a 3rd party ( so i figure ill be paying a little more) GAP10 is 8-11 month wait for custom order, jp-lrp07 is 4-6 weeks , wilson is at firearm store in br .
i love vortex, i have the razor binos and they are great , wife has the vipers and we both have the rangfinders . im about to buy a vortex razor spotting scope for sheep hunts . i have a ziess on m 270wsm and love it also . main thing i dont like about the vortex is the weight but other than that they are freaking awesome . 300blkot vs .308 ...mainn reason im on the 308 is availability of ammo and price of ammo |
Fishinpox, I don't mean to get off subject but what are the better gun shops in BR IYHO?
|
Jims has the largest selection of firearms and accessories in baton rouge, ferrara has good prices on what they have in there very small store, accurate has good prices. I also like to check out LA Gun and Reloading supply.

As the above posted JIM'S has a great selection but in my experience the majority of the salesmen are a holes who act lie the invented the gun EXCEPT the guy who helped me te other day ... He was a good guy . My issue is the majority of the guys who workin gun shops have this inferiority complex or little man complex not sure but they act like they are so knowledgable but all there info is from reading some magazine article so the say stuff like " I don't care for the ......... Feature". Then I ask " well why ? ". They ALWAYS reply" I don't know it's just my opinion " So sick of that crap ! Explain your opinion so you can help inform me so I can either make the purchase or not lol it's not that hard . Most of em are the same as the thug homeboys get em out of their environment ( gun store) and take away the side arm and their whole attitude changes into a puss ! Like when you catch a homeboy w/o his pals around they won't say c hit! Lol rant over haha |
Thanks for the info, don't know BR that well. I know what you mean about the "experts". It's even worse at gun shows with their attitudes. As a former firearms instructor and armorer for a large P.D. and gunsmith for a very successful fishing and firearms shop, I forgot more than most of these young "experts" know, probably before a lot of them were born. I will bow to them for knowledge about some of the latest developments in firearms products and technology as I have been out of the loop for many years except for my own personal guns. They still don't have to act the way they do.

Pretty sure I'm going with the JP enterprises LRP 07 and vortex razor glass
|
nice choice. step-dad has a JP 308 that is bad azz
