Wonder when obama is going to invite Officer Wilson to the White house to honor him for his courage in the line of danger, for getting this THUG off the streets, for preventing any more store clerks getting beat up or possibly killed.

Duck Butter 12-03-2014 01:05 PM

it's a student group not an official ULL sponsored event

you can go in the quads and have an atheist party if you want (freedom of speech and all)

swamp snorkler 12-03-2014 01:28 PM

Some people believe that freedom of speech and right to assembly only matter when the speech and assembly is in line with their own beliefs.

Bruh does not understand that which is understandable since he did not even finish high school!

8 years at ULL and I never knew there was a UL NAACP. Go figure.

Your one of those "smart" people aren't you. EVERY school has these programs. Even LSU has an NAACP, but it's ok you bring up UL more then the media.

These are student groups, they take little effort to start and only one faculty member to "sign off on them".

Bruh is mad at UL since they would not let him take his GED final on campus when he took it....

"W" 12-03-2014 04:39 PM

Channel 3 news has a special last year that USL was the only school in the state that had a actual class ( not group )
That was for gays and lesbians

Besides that I find it funny that blacks would protest Fuergson when we have the highest black on black crime in Baton Rouge and New Orleans than most all othe States big cities

Waltrip you really are a POS. I'd be willing to bet that you may have never stepped foot on a college campus before. As a self proclaimed "fishing guide" one would think you would have the insight to know that some of your clients may have went to UL. Yes I think it's ridiculous to have a candlelight vigil, but it's the NAACP. What do you expect??
I hope no one from Lafayette ever uses your guide service again.
I don't use a guide, but if anyone ever asks me for a recommendation for Big Lake, I will surely tell them to use anyone but you.
Geaux play in a busy street and Geaux Cajuns!!

Many Universities have "Quidditch" groups/teams also... that's the game they play on Harry Potter.. where they fly on brooms.. so yea..

C-Bass2mouth 12-03-2014 05:37 PM

I'm sure there are people (probably not anyone on this site) that think Collegiate Bass fishing is the most retarded thing they've ever heard of. To each his own.

Hey W. Just shows how progressive ULL is compared to other Universities in our area. Good to see minorities and alternative groups have their say whether you agree with them or not. Freedom is our greatest asset.

Your 100% right but having a candle light visual for a thug that was a criminal and who attacked cops is like having one for Jeffery Domnor for eating people

It's the wrong thing to stand for

How about let's stand and protest about the crime rates or foodstamp and Wealfare numbers?

How about for the family's who lost men and women in our armed forces !!

You think a local collage should allowed a group to protest about a thug ?

Recall when that guy said he was going to burn the American Flag on LSU campus ?
How did that go? He had his permit and right to do so but loyal Americans made sure it would not happen !! And it did not

Allow me to start this post by stating that I dont agree with celebrating that thug who was killed because he attacked a police officer. Anyone dumb enough to attack a police officer should not be surprised when they feel that hot 9mm round!

However, I do support freedom of speech, when it is peaceful and non-destructive. Not so much what they are doing in Furgeson.

After sifting through all of the uneducated, dumbass, ignorant statements made on this thread I don regret it because I found this great post! USL and now UL has always been the most progressive University in the South as far as equality and human rights geaux!

Anyone on here ever heard of Berryl Shipley?
He was just inducted into the Louisiana Athletics Hall of fame this year.
Not only did he have USL ranked in the top 5 consistently in the late 60's and early 70's, he also recruited the nation's leading scorer Bo Lamar and other great athletes!

However, those are not the greatest accomplishment that Coach Shipley is known for. He went against the grain, the Louisiana Government, the NCAA (or whatever it was called back then) and even the other coaches in his conference by being the first coach in the deep south to recruit and play black athletes in college athletics.

Coach Shipley and the University athletic program were attacked by all of the above for doing thi and punished severely but coach Shipley knew what the right thing to do was and never backed down from the racists who ran college athletics at the time.

You all can start your accusations about how he violated recruiting violations, but unless you have read the book "Slam Dunked" I will not bother to read or acknowledge your comments about Coach Shipley. The man was ahead of his time as far as equality goes and one hell of a basketball coach.

After reading A LOT of different books and articles on this subject I believe that there were some recruiting violations, no worse than what was going on at every other basketball powerhouse in that time, and more than likelt less severe. Shipley was attacked because he continued to recruit and play black players after he was instructed not to by the conference, the league, and the politicians....BOTTOM LINE!

marsh life 12-03-2014 08:51 PM

There is a black cloud over USL that not even Jager Bombs could fix. Good luck in the Ed Hardy Bowl.

I was at USL back then. My freshman year there would only be a few hundred people at a home basketball game. For the '66 season, after the first few wins..... the stands started filling up.

I think it was either the '69 or '70 season when USL broke into the top 10 ranking and you had to get to the game early to get a seat.

Bo had very good support from other team members. Flimming (sp) look as if he took another hit he would out. Ivory..... was a horse under the basket. I can't remember the centers name.... but he was dating a girl in the same dorm as my girlfriend. We often talked in the dorm while waiting for our date to come down. Lets just say the team really enjoyed the two trips out to the Hawaii Tournament.

Thats a great story! Thanks for sharing! I was not lucky enough to be around when you guys were rocking the Blackham but I have heard that same story from my Dad about getting in line first thing in the morning just to get a ticket to get into the game!

If you have not yet I recommend reading the book "Slam Dunked." It has a lot of interviews from the people who were directly involved with the entire scandal. Its not that easy to get a copy but if you search hard enough online you should be able to find a used one.

Also, there is a guy who is currently working on a movie titled "Lights out in the Blackham." He has been working on it for years but some of the clips he has released so far are VERY impressive! It really does have the potential to end up on ESPN as a 30 for 30 film. It would be great for Shipley's legacy to spread outside of the Southern States.

Im skeptical that ESPN would air it thou because it will no doubt show how racist the NCAA was at one time.
