Sabine Opener

Ok guys we lost our lease this year, and i'll be hunting public again for the first split. I make a couple sabine trips a year and I've noticed since duck dynasty the place is packed the whole season, and the hunters that are out there, arent much of hunters. I haven't hit an opener there in probably 6 years. Just wondering how packed it will be.

And a kevlar vest.

Hate to bring the bad news but it's dangerous, frustrating, and down right ridiculous on opening weekend out there. If my only option was to hunt public on opening weekend I'd stay my happy tail in bed with mama bear. Wait till all the face painters are burn out in the first couple weekends.

Our season isn't long enough to skip, I sure wish I could but I have no other option. maybe the ole honey hole will be to far for the other guys

Just hunt later I used to hunt lacassine and would not leave my house until 8:30 and hunt til noon always killed limits just about everyday you would be surprised how many birds filter into the refuge after all the crazies pack up and leave.

We kill most of our mallards and pins with emphasis on mallards between 930-10:30. We are on the laccassine flyway. It's definAtely true!

Yea, I hunted that area and I didn't really see the Lacassine Refuge Flyway Effect know as the LRFE until...... My buddy saw a video of a guy bouncing DaHen; well we all practiced real hard and sure enough we shifted the entire Flyway by bouncin da hen.

The problem with that is you are going in while others are still hunting and you can mess them up. The serious guys setup at 4:00 and stay til noon or when they get their limits and they often hunt in groups of 4 or 5.
If someone hears you shooting a lot they will be camped out early in that spot next time. Welcome to hunting in the refuge. Be polite and respectful of other hunters and you can have some excellent hunts.

Yes I would love to know how u can know that they are going to lacassine? I bet he can tell if they r "new" birds also. " look see how high they flying that's new birds coming in" classic line haha.

But this is dependent on 2 variables, wind and sun. These 2 factors can shift the flyway as little as 10' or as much as 984'. I won't go into detail on specifics.

No. If they're legs are red they're new birds. On e they get down here and spend time in the muddy fields they're legs aren't as red and that the birds been here for a while. Heard it right here.

Lmao forgot about that one. I've heard that line in person "hey come look at this artic mallard I killed today see its got red legs that means its new birds coming down from the ice."
