fourchon aj help

I will be making my 1st aj run out from frouchon sat. How deep and which direction to head?how do you catch them? Bottom feeder or mid water?

Clampy 08-06-2014 09:47 AM

Head south west in 150 2 250 foot of water live hardtails. They usually suspend at a certain temperature just check the grass for them and drop a live hard tail down to where there are and hold on because they are catching some big one

Clampy 08-06-2014 09:49 AM

Damn voice to text.
Grass - graph*
150-250*

haoward 08-06-2014 10:40 AM

Should I try th rigs for them or just stop in the open and drop bait?

Clampy 08-06-2014 10:43 AM

Get close to the rig on down current side. Drop down with a big live hard tail. And just let the current take you away from the rig.

Clampy 08-06-2014 12:42 PM

Might take a good bit of weight to get down past the undesirables.

Top Dawg 08-06-2014 12:45 PM

Make sure your not tied to the rig. Have person in back with pole. Back up to rig(if it's deep 300-600') then u don't have to get real close. Fishermen drops live bait with heavy enough weight to get it down #10 circle hook 3-400# mono leader. Once fish grabs bait put boat in gear and drag the fish away from the rig. Once the fish is away from the rig u can fight it without being broke off in the rig.

Oh yea... And hang on!

Clampy 08-06-2014 02:08 PM

We left the drag to tight on a big reel last time.
Damn AJ almost ripped the rod holder out of a 32' proline before he broke 100# power pro.

haoward 08-08-2014 06:57 PM

Will do thanks to all for those tips

Visco 08-08-2014 07:48 PM

Good luck.

I was not going to be on the water this week, but a buddy of mine is there right now and is saying the water and wind is perfect... so now I am leaving at 0300 to head down. Will put in at Myrtle Grove and then cruise to GI from there. Will play it by ear on if we hit the shallow rigs or stay in for trout.

There is suppose to be a west wind shifting to west north west, so seas should be fairly calm.

What channel you guys normally listen to?

fishinpox 08-08-2014 08:21 PM

I'll be down in my baby blue triton . Bust up a few trout first thing then heading south timb blocks

Visco radio stays on 16 most of the time, what station do you use? We will be working our way out. Mangrove first kings then hopefully aj and groupers

Visco 08-09-2014 06:37 AM

The same I stay on 16, until I figure out where everyone else is.

Good luck I can see GI right now about half way across Barataria

Had a buddy that was visiting from Chicago and he wanted to go offshore.

Just got home exhausted! Left at 3 didn't get off the water till 5 worked our way stopped @ 100ft and caught our limit of mangrove! 4 person limit and one HUGE LING! Took me a good 40 min to get her into the boat. Ran out to 200 ft decided to hit the shrimp boat and started playing with the Bonita with light tackle talking about much fun. Until the man with the gray suit showed up... Continued out and found blue water around 35 mile or so out. Hitted a few grass line and caught MAUI MAUI! Did some trolling around the rigs and caught one king.

Thanks to my buddy uncle for jumping into my boat and showing me the rope overall the boat burn half a tank.

4 man limit of mangrove snapper by 10
1 ling/cobia that maxed out my cheap 35lb hand weight, must be around 45 to 50 lb.
A few Bonita
8 Maui maui
1 king
