So what would you say the quickest time from the house (Lafayette) to the pass is if you left out of each of the three mentioned launches? I've never been out of Boston, but I think it would be the closest to Lafayette, right?

Clampy 08-01-2014 02:32 PM

I think icy is the best bet

Depends where you live. If you live close to hwy90 then the Point is the fastest. If you live on the mall side of Lafayette then Intracoastal is faster. Driving thru the middle of Lafayette is a Biatch and add lots of time.

alphaman 08-01-2014 03:09 PM

I live off of point de mouton. So I would just head straight down the thruway the point. Then cross the bay to get to the pass.

Ive decided that i won't be doing that anymore. Depend on which I side fish will determine what launch to use From now on.

put your address in google maps and figure which ramp would be closest, like red said above it depends on what part of lafayette you live in, traffic and stuff, i live on the south side of youngsville and taking the back way to icc sure seemed longer than going to the point

alphaman 08-01-2014 03:13 PM

From I 10/I 49 down the thruway to the point is 48 miles

From I 10 down johnston street to Intercostal city is 44 miles

But less miles doesn't equal faster time. Especially here in Lafayette. LOL

alphaman 08-01-2014 03:17 PM

True, but im just posting distances To the boat lanuch [emoji469]

BayBolt23 08-01-2014 03:42 PM

Thanks Alpha

For me its quicker to drive to Boston canal launch. But a its a looong run down the canal to get to the bay.

Going to the point is just a straight road down 49 to Darnell road to the point. I have to cross the bay to get to the pass.[emoji3]

driving to I.City I have to drive through lafayette through Abbeville then on to I.C
I'm on the west side so I feel closer[emoji79]

This is all psychological! it's all in your head If you think about.

When you going shopping you see Some people park right next to the store/building but they are a ways away from the door. They feel closer but actually there walking further to get to the door

OK I'm almost off come on 6pm. Im still bored. Lol

AubreyLaHaye458 08-01-2014 04:43 PM

So this raises the question....would you rather drive further in the truck to reduce the boat ride, or drive the shorter distance in the truck but have a longer boat ride.

I would think on a west or south wind the ride from ICY would be a lot better to the Pass. I personally have never launched at ICY but it's on my to do list. I would like to fish Redfish Point and go check out the weirs around Fearman Lake.

alphaman 08-01-2014 04:49 PM

I rather drive shorter and londer boat ride For big lake bc. I have options N to South end to locate clean water etc. I dont like driving all the way to Hebert from lafayette.

Vermillion bay. It's just about the same distance to the point or I.C. driving and boat ride. Just have to decide which side you want to be on for vbay fishing.

alphaman 08-01-2014 04:51 PM

Most of all. All this decisions or based on what kind of boat/motor you have determines where you launch really!

Yes, this is why I am launching out of ICY if I want to fish the pass. Also you can stay on the inside cut threw fearman lake if the wind is bad etc. To stay out the bay if it's sloppy.

daxt79 08-01-2014 05:21 PM

I'm in Lafayette, but near Youngsville. The point & ICY are about the same drive time for me. Hwy 90 is just horrible from Lafayette to New Iberia while pulling the boat to the point. The roads going to ICY are so much better.

Boston would be the closest to me, but I wasn't sure how long the boat ride was down the Boston to the bay.

Random Distances

I launch at FWC if I want to fish outside and the point if u want to fish inside. FWC and ICY are the same distance from my house

southern151 08-01-2014 05:43 PM

.8 miles from my shop to the house...I don't feel like driving it this evening. Would someone please come get me? Only two stop lights to consider and, oh yeah, I have a political function to attend tonight which is approx 1.123515 miles from the house. I'll pay your $100 admission just so that I don't have to go to it alone!

Any takers?!

Fearman can get shallow on low tide in the winter.

Meaux, how is the launch at FWC ? I heard it was in pretty bad shape, I haven't been there since before Rita. That would also be an option for me.

It's not very good, but it's useable. I just like the shorter run. Parking sucks and the canal can be pretty shallow on low tide, just make sure you stay in the middle

alphaman 08-02-2014 09:28 AM

Hey meaux what canal are you talking about? I haven't launch there in a 3-4 years.

Delcambre is about to finish a top notch boat landing, should be open at the end of August. It will give you another option especially for the fall speck run in VB..
