Reefman 07-25-2014 09:39 AM

Looks like most are guide boats! Bet there're a bunch of crickets being thrown.

"W" 07-25-2014 09:41 AM

You know they have some crickets dying there !!!

You would see a decline in guide boats if live bait was ban!!

The water was clear yesterday and the bait was busting everywhere. The E side (shown in the picture) was calmer than the W side. We were the only boat on the W side yesterday afternoon and caught our limit of bulls in no time at the drum hole on the end.

We were the only trailer in the parking lot when we left at 4:00 PM.

blackmamba 07-25-2014 06:16 PM

I didn't know it was possible to catch fish without a "fishing" shirt..

Just left Rockport, TX. Those boys stack up Texas style. I saw a 3 mile Haynie/Majek/Shoalwater centipede. They all have towers so they can cast over the dude on the side of them. I been to two tent revivals and a chicken fight and I ain't seen nothin like quite that. I think I'd rather be audited.

We've been in a line almost that long at Belle Pass. The peeps were all very nice. The bull reds were hitting schools of mullet that day, so we tried to scoop up some mullet in our landing net and never quite got one. The boat next to us offered to share some they had cast netted, but I couldn't bring myself to risk spoiling their fishing by motoring up to them, so we stuck with cracked crab on the bottom which eventually worked (always does).

If you want more room at the jetties (any jetties), go in the afternoon. Most afternoons, you can take your pick of any spot you want to fish at Belle Pass or Calcasieu Pass or Caminada Pass.

I laugh every time I see one of those goofy tower consoles. Really only see that crap in Texas.

And headed through the weirs.

SGib 07-26-2014 10:03 AM

Those towers make a difference in the marsh looking for reds. I'd assume on the shallow flats in south Texas you can spot trout as well.
