Which reels
Well my birthday is coming up soon. Thinking a new rod and reel is going to be a necessary birthday present. I'm just hung up on which reel to get. I have very limited experience with the more high dollar reels and am looking for some input. I know it's a can of worms but it'll be interesting. Considering either a revo, curado, or one of the Lews reels. So let's hear all the wonderful stories and horror stories that come along with these reels.

I love my Lews baitcaster.
Also love my shimano spinning reel. Cant go wrong. Either way you are getting a top notch product. Shimano may have the advantage as far as warranty. |
I love my lews tournament pro and inshore. I hear the new cur ado is really good but until lews disappoints me like curado did, I'm sticking with lews

Curado, chronarch or core depending on your price range.

Which reels

This reel casts further than my curado. Prob I had with both of my lews came when I was bass fishing and got a strike as soon as the bait hit the water. I set the hook at the same time as I "clicked" the spool from stopping and it misses gears before catching. Curado with upgraded boca bearings would be my choice. |
Im partial to shimano products, but all three are good reels. Now you need to get a rod from Jchief to put it on

Chronarch. They were on sale at Academy last month for $179.

I own shimano and lews....lews makes a nice smooth reel but shimano got em beat with reliability.

With reds and specks it's fine but setting the hook through soft plastic for bass is a different hook set. Must have gave my reel a virus. |
i have a revo S that is about 4 years old, and a revo SX that is about 3 years old. Awesome reels in my book. I casted a Lews and it felt great. Can't go wrong with any of these, or a Shimano. I have never owned a "HIGH DOLLAR" reel, but all of these "mid grade" reels have done the job for me.

I have speed spools and Revo S's, the more I throw my Revos the more I like them. The Speed Spools are great too though - just prefer the overall feel of the Revos. I've thrown Shimanos too, but never owned any. Revos and Lew's offer great bang for the buck |
add a 13 fishing Concept to that list. you wont be disappointed.

I have amongst a bunch of other stuff a chronarch and a tourney pro......both are excellent baitcasters.....slight maintanance edge goes to chronarch, slight performance edge goes to tourney pro....can't go wrong with either
|
13 is pretty much just an okuma.
|
Fin Nor anyone? Nobody ever talks about them, but the price point is good... And Captain Jeff says they are for real guys
|
all i run are curado e's chronarch and ci4's and ive got a revo and orra inshore that are quality reels for inshore
|
Fin Nor back in the day made real great quality offshore type reels, they are owned by Zebco I would not purchase anything from them that would go within 100 miles of brackish or saltwater.

Which reels

Not even there inshore/salt specific models now? Edit - I was mistaken, it's their spinning reels that they make for inshore. Baitcaster a are for big game |
Goooh I would stay away, go Shimano
|
SHIMANO bait casters for saltwater man!!!! Citica-curado- clean em once a yr haven't had any trouble
|
I've had almost all of the Shimanos. Calais, Chronarch, Curado, etc. Finally bucked the system and picked up an Okuma Cedros baitcaster last summer... absolutely love it so far.
|
Played with a few reels tonight. It's amazing to me how small they are. Especially the new curado.

The curado g series is made in malasia and the chronarch e series are made in japan. Id go with the chronarch e over the curado g if u go shimano in that price range.

What about the new curado? The I series? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |
Just stay away from okuma. They have issues w corrosion In saltwater.

I looked at one of the new I series, turned it over and seen it said Malaysia and put it back down and said no thank you

I only use PENN. I have used other reels that my friends have and have yet to find a better reel. Depending on what series you get depends on where it is made. For the most part, if it cost more than $150 then it is made in the USA, if under that price it is made in China but all the parts are of the same quality.
Good luck on your choice, and at the end of the day it is going to be what you like and what you feel is good. |
