Oh ya transducer damaged and threwhulls ok some valves need work
Sweet ride brother. Enjoy the hell outa it.
Its still not mine yet. Owner has lost his mind. First I had to wait for him to pop fireworks now he thinks im a pay for boat then an engine rebuild. Dude is insane and not tomention no safty crap on board delamination and bad electronics.
Yep tonight was supposed to be a night of stele ration but it's turned into a pittyful night of drinking alone.
Owner refused concessions and has gone nuts. I'm in the hole for 3 grand and not to mention the 2 weeks of unethical survey crap from a motor guy. So in morning I go to a hotel bye the way without bead bugs as I'm tired of itchy rashes and wait for ride to Louisiana . And of corse keep a little hope that owner comes back to planet earth and has a clue. As not many would put out like the slut I am. |
Did I mention non coastguard compliant heads and no anchor or life raft.one ac unit does not function and most of the lights don't work as we'll as the compressor for the horn. List goes on. Ya it's a 1970 and owner stopped fishing it due to motor .....I'm not stupid it has sat for a long time. And first survey mechanic new that. He rebuilt starboard motor.
Boat is slow out of date not a tournament boat. Not a high demand fisher. No freezer and grill is shot in cockpit as well as grill in tally . Yep time to sign off switching to scotch beer ran out!!! |
Welcome to the world of Big Boats Ratdog. Look at Trawlers. Much cheaper to buy, own, maintain and run. I personally like Mainships and the Tiawanese made boats. Go to Yacht Finder there are hundreds out there. You can find a nice Mainship late 70's to mid 80's vintage that will run you much less than $50,000.00 with a Diesel engine. They would fit your needs to a T and burn less fuel. They might not be as fast but you will save a fourtune in fuel. Look up a blog about a boat called ''Beach House''.
Them Sportfishers cost a ton to operate it's the nature of the beast. Personally I don't think you going to water ready 53' Hatt for under $200,000. Good luck in your continuing Saga.

Ratdog, if that owner wants out on that Hat, he will come to his senses. Subtract $27,500 for engine rebuild on that DD, add $3,000 per head for elctrascans and another $1,700.00 for galley stove. Ground tackle with all chain rode with windlass another $5,000.00 Ya lookin' at an additional $40,000 off of selling price. If he will not negotiate on your counter offer WALK AWAY......NO, RUN!!!!! I think you should put in your own electronics. Listen to above comments concerning trawlers...love mine, 17kt top end but cruise at 8.9 all day. Trawlers are far better as a live aboard than a Convertable SF. Heck, you can pick up a Hat MY 53' in much better shape than those SF at fire sale prices. Don't push a deal on a boat and accept poor conditions, there are too many out there that have been taken care of and at great prices. Good luck Dog and enjoy the search!
and subtract another $3,000 for a 16,000 BTU cruisaire conditioner to replace broken one. DON"T let them try to fix it. Replacing the compressor or coils never last more than a few months on these marine conditioners. |

The best of both worlds! Yacht fisherman, 53'...plenty of live aboard along with a large cockpit for fishing..... |
I am sorry to hear that this purchase isn't working. I hope you find a great boat that provides many years of service and joy with few headaches.

I personally think for a live aboard a trawler is much easier to live with. He could pick up a nice Lee Choy, Marine Yacht, Albin or some other similar Trawler with either a single or dual DD or Perkins for cheap cheap cheap out of south Florida. I've been so tempted to get one but other things are priority right now. I've seen quite a few very nice examples going for anywhere from 40K up to 80K.
