Metal Buildings

Yea I remember where this went last time but I'm looking for some input on who to use for a metal building in the lake charles or surrounding areas? I've seen some work from Simpson bldgs but never really payed much attention to anyone elses craftsmanship. I'm looking to get some bids in the next week or two. I dont want to use that other guy after hearing horror stories here on the forum, and firsthand from other people.

I just ordered a 30x40 with 2 12x40 lean toos from mueller in port Allen. They beat everyone else by 8k

Are you erecting the building and pouring slab yourself?

BuckingFastard 06-02-2014 07:04 AM

have you thought about mallet and his defense team on here?

Ed32 06-02-2014 07:42 AM

i have seen a mitchell building out of singer. it appeared to be quality work. but of course with any project check them out. all pole barn companies sub out the labor so i would let them know you expect their best crew up front. most of the subs of any trade do good work but there are a usually a couple that do excellent work and management knows who they are.

Like I said we arent going there, I'd like to get some real opinions on other options.

PBJ 06-02-2014 12:13 PM

I bought one from Meuller several years ago and I like it. Me and some friends put it up.

jacobgiles 06-02-2014 07:19 PM

I just finished my Mueller 30x40 and I am very happy with it! They also beat everyone else's price by a longshot.

gonzalesdave 06-02-2014 07:46 PM

Anybody use reeds in Brookhaven Ms?

Bdub 06-02-2014 08:46 PM

Thats a good question Dave, I was going to ask if anyone has used Reeds in Lake Charles area? I should have a few bids in the next day or two..

Nickt87 12-29-2014 04:57 PM

I'm looking to build one in the next year to year and half. 60x40 with a 20x40 living area. Need to start kicking some tires.

Bdub 12-29-2014 07:08 PM

I ended up going with Mitchell, they are having a special right now and they worked out a deal for me on a 30x60, So far everything looks great, All I have left to do is call them to come pour the slab. I'll post some pics in a bit.

ThePinkBanana 12-29-2014 07:40 PM

We used reeds metals for our 20x20. All I paid was 1800 for materials and 700 for labor, they took twice as long as they originally said, rutted up my yard, lost my payment information and tried to tell me I never paid for the labor. The work was quality, they had to do some elaborate work to tie into existing roof area of the home that was an addition which made the job tricky. They failed to complete the job to my specific requests, came back and made it right without any further charges... All in all... They did quality work, but their customer service and organization skills were lacking... My parents also used them for a huge shop at their new home which they had a nightmare even getting reeds to show up.... Yet, they do some of the best work in SWLA since there isn't much competition... All in all... I'd probably use them again

LMAO you ol pink banana

Bdub 12-29-2014 08:13 PM

Went from a dirt pad to this in two and a half days...with setbacks. These guys were quick and did a pretty good job of cleaning up their mess. We decided to leave a panel off for the cement pour instead of pushing cement the full length of the building. I may have them take another panel off near the door so I don't have to use a pump truck.

Rollup door and walk-in door hardware will be installed after concrete is poured. As of right now I would definitely use them again. A friend of mine built a 30 x 50 and his looks great too.

Bdub 12-29-2014 08:14 PM

I still have to build up the driveway to the shop and do some more dirt work on the inclines for the doors

ThePinkBanana 12-29-2014 08:32 PM

Brian..... You're a diva when you get water in your waders. Have a snickers

Bdub 12-29-2014 08:40 PM

You are "the pink banana"...can't get much worse than that..Not my fault you don't have balls to get wet lmao

ThePinkBanana 12-29-2014 08:44 PM

My girl keeps them in her jewelry box

Bdub 12-29-2014 08:50 PM

Glad you have had good luck with them. A real good friend of mine has been fighting with Mitchell for a while to finish his building, he made the order with them in March. A couple months later they delivered the material, In May 3 guys just showed up and starting putting it together w/out any notice. They just poured the slab about a month ago and they still hadn't hung his walk through doors. The craftsmanship ain't all that either.

People are blowing up their FB page with some pretty tough negative comments too. Kinda has me wondering. Seems all these metal building guys are sketch bags. Gonna be picking from the best of the worst it seems.

cajunfisher 12-30-2014 08:16 AM

Is there any reason the slab is to be poured after putting up the building? I don't think I have see it done that way before.

I didn't mention this last nite cuz it was too much to type, but another guy I know didn't have problems with them erecting the building, but with them pouring the concrete. He got tired of waiting on them and ended up hiring somebody else to pour the slab. Last I heard was that they are suing him for "breaking their contract" cuz he refused to pay for the concrete portion of the building.

Ed32 12-30-2014 10:41 AM

well this screws up my plans i was planning on using mitchell since the other place got alot of negative reviews. does anyone else know any pole barn builders?

Ed I'll be messaging you back this evening. As for issues with the builder, I feel as if there can be problems no matter who you plan on using. Communication is key. Also you're approach will make all the difference, dont become the ******* no one wants to do work for because of issues that may arise. Being that they sub work out things need to be made very clear so they don't get miscommunicated

Bumfisherman 12-30-2014 09:48 PM

I bought the 30x40 from muellers to be erected in Hackberry. Pouring slab tomorrow and building will go up next week. Good prices and good company to deal with.
