Outdoor Confessions/Unpopular Opinions

Your chance to get it all out there, come clean with something you have done or can't do in the outdoors or an opinion you have that may not be very popular

1. I change all my spinning reels to the right side

2. I can NOT cast left handed, I throw with the right and swap over

3. I shot a doe over a corn feeder this year, first deer over corn in over 10 years

4. In 1996, as a present for graduation I went to Ville friggin Platte to go sheep hunting. The place was maybe 75 acres high fenced and I walked up to 3 mouflon sheep and shot it with a .270

5. I have never kept a black drum nor eaten one

6. Trout are just decent eating to me, nothing special

7. I am terrified of cockroaches and will get my wife to step on them

8. 2 out of the first 5 times I visited Vermilion Bay resulted in the sheriff being called in the middle of the night to come get us (once mechanical failure, once operator failure)

9. I can not watch 99% of hunting shows nowadays because it sickens me to see what hunting has become (even though I shot a deer over a cornfeeder this year:spineyes:)

10. I could not care less if someone keeps a fish for mounting

Duck Butter 05-29-2014 11:53 AM

11. I once told a stripper I was out of money even though I had $5 in my pocket

duckman1911 05-29-2014 12:03 PM

Im right there with ya on 1-2-9-10.
Whats wrong with dinking a slickhead over corn? If I could I'd get em to jump in the truck before I shot em I would.
As far as the sheep. You shoulda killed em all if you were that close.
Small black drum are some good eats DB.
I dont see why anyone should care if a man keeps a fish to mount. His time+his money=nobody elses business.

duckman1911 05-29-2014 12:16 PM

BassAssasin 05-29-2014 12:29 PM

#7!!! Glad I'm not the only one. They are just so damn quick, ya never know when they will rush you!

speck cc 05-29-2014 12:39 PM

I skip over trout to get to the reds

C-Bass2mouth 05-29-2014 12:45 PM

#1. Just flat out can't do it
#9. Mainly because I'm a hater, and mad that some of those turds can hunt/fish for a living and I can't. lol

simplepeddler 05-29-2014 12:45 PM

I only keep what I want to eat.......not because of some moral self apppointed hi-ground ........but because I hate cleaning fish.......

I kill many ducks a year.........but rarely eat them........but I make friends giving them away

I have fished out of my boat only a handful of times........although I am in it many times a year.....

I am not mad at game anymore.........fin, feather or fur......

C-Bass2mouth 05-29-2014 12:49 PM

The last deer I killed was in my parent's front yard before school one morning 7 years ago.. Neighbor called and woke me up to tell me to go "look" at the buck in your yard. 17" 9 point, personal best. Haven't shot a rifle since.

sieze the opportunities given to you!!!

Goooh 05-29-2014 01:11 PM

I like riding in my boat, or floating around as much as I enjoy fishing - which is a lot.

Mounts are silly to me, but I don't judge people that choose to

I never filet with an electric knife, I'm not in a race and don't like to waste

BassYakR 05-29-2014 01:26 PM

I live in south la and ive never been duck hunting.

I give away 98% of all the fish that I keep.

Matt G 05-29-2014 01:28 PM

1) I'm scared to death of snakes. Just seeing one will turn me into a screaming little beech. Spiders are right behind them.

2) I rarely swim in water where I can't see the bottom.

3) I HATE crabs. Both catching and eating them.

4) Don't give me a cast net unless you want it tangled and/or ripped.

Duck Butter 05-29-2014 01:38 PM

13. I was once driving with my windows down and n'Sync came on and I rolled up the windows and did not change the station

14. When Columbia shirts first came out I had 4 of them and when I fished, I had one of them on and a pair of Costas

Clampy 05-29-2014 01:45 PM

If we are riding wheelers and you duck a banana spider and I hit it I will bail in 3rd gear and strip down on the trail.

DVM 05-29-2014 01:58 PM

I once "stretched" a 15.5 inch red fish .5 inches.

I would burn my house DOWN if one of those was in there..

One of my best friends growing up had a pet python at his parents. Would not sleep in that house

bobo23 05-29-2014 02:03 PM

I will get up at 3:45 am, drive for two hours, fish from before daylight, till dark, for 15 skinny azz trout.....if I'm lucky..... and smile the whole way home.

We had a 7' columbian redtail boa. She would get out of her cage and be loose in the house for weeks at a time. No biggy. She always showed up when she got hungry. Found her coiled up and sleeping on the top of the bathroom door once. That kinda freaked out the wife a little. When ya go pee there isnt supposed to be a 7' snake on the bathroom door. Still cant figure how she got up there.

Damn right!

To add to my original list:
I never liked fishing until I met my wife. She would fish a lot with her dad and grandpa. The first boat I ever owned was a 21' bay boat. I looked like an absolute idiot at the launch for a while until I got the hang of launching, trailering, and docking the boat.

You can get a little more than 1/2" out of them.

goldenrod 05-29-2014 05:08 PM

I only fish near black Hannies.

You talkin bout me D? That was my daughter holding the spider.
The 18 year old girl could man up and hold the spider. Nuff said.:grinpimp:

Dink 05-29-2014 05:33 PM

Oh...you said her BF

I was questioning her decision making

PUREBAY2200 05-29-2014 05:34 PM

I let DINK talk me Into using a gulp chum bucket to make a "slick" on big lake.....

PUREBAY2200 05-29-2014 05:37 PM

I waded west cove in a pair of sperry topsiders

I used dead shrimp on the causeway and caught black drum when I failed to catch any trout

I thought big lake was " big" then I fished it

BIGV 05-29-2014 05:37 PM

I get up and get to the woods a hour before daylight to deer hunt and then sit in the truck until daylight starts to break before I walk to my stand!

Gotcha bro. Perhaps it could have been written better on my part.
Was funny though :)

duckman1911 05-29-2014 05:47 PM

I like rope :).....lm f ao

B-Stealth 05-29-2014 08:37 PM

Awesome Stuff I Have Done

Lol man O man the things I could write:

A few years ago Sulphite and I duck hunted an island off the ship channel; we were very enthousastic about the evenings hunt. I remember heaving the anchor on the bank like a democrat @ the weirs but I failed to secure anchor rope to cleat. We returned from the hunt to find an anchor rope, NOT connected to my 22ft Bay Boat.

Not many folks can say they've lost a 22ft bay boat...

And yes there are black panthers on that island :rotfl:

meaux fishing 05-29-2014 08:55 PM

I tied my boat up at my frinds camp on the backside of GI just by looping the rope over the piling. Forgot to take the tide into consideration and a couple hours later, I was swimming out to my boat...

duckman1911 05-29-2014 09:14 PM

Chased a crippled woodie for about 50 yards until I got my foot caught on a root or something. Tripped, filled my waders with cold F'n water and had to find my new shotgun on the bottom of the lake.

duckman1911 05-29-2014 09:28 PM

Hunted across the road from Dewey Wills WMA but parked on their side of the road. Didn't have their "free" self clearing permit. Didn't hunt on the WMA just parked on their side of the road. $375 ticket x 4. Over 1k in fines because we didn't have a taxpayer supplied piece of paper. F them is all I can say.

U did the same thing in cocodrie!

Montauk17 05-29-2014 09:42 PM

I can relate to most...I also hate snakes and spiders, only good ones are dead.

Sport braided fishing line 95% of the time.

I use live bait when needed.

I kill several deer over corn every year, they taste great.

I don't care to fish for trout much anymore.

I can't stand people with no respect on the water.

Sitting at the boat launch with a 6 pack is very entertaining to me.

Outdoor Confessions/Unpopular Opinions

I like to use shrimp sometimes because I like to catch fish almost as much as I like going fishing.
I wear Sperrys Columbia and Costas just about every time I go fishing. (Just about every day actually)
I'm slowly learning how to sport my braid.
I love hunting over a good corn pile, and even more when there's a bran pile right next to it.
Proud owner of a pair of Crocs. And have been for quite a few years.

16" Rat red taste better than a 3lb trout

I've eaten red ear turtles and have also served them to people and told them it's snapping turtle.

I once killed a squirrel with a football.

One time i forgot to take the straps off my boat when I was launching it.

I havent been fishing in 6 months but I'm going this weekend.

BuckingFastard 05-30-2014 06:59 AM

i once left my boat on the pavement in the middle of an intersection on nelson rd. winch wasnt latched (for reasons i cant say) and the boat slid right off when i took off from the red light. remember to always use the straps you have! haha
