Need info on lake misere

Can anyone tell me what is the best route to get into lake misere from lake arthur. I know I need to travel south and turn right in the intracoastal. I went out there last week with someone else. I would like to go in my boat this weekend if its not too hard.

Red Devil 11-19-2009 10:56 AM

Dude, I know that area like the back of my hand, but I would hate to give you directions and you get lost. I wouldn't want that on my shoulders. Where will you be docking at. If you dock at Gary's, they are nice people and they will tell you, also Jerrilynn at Myers will tell you also. You can also look at Yahoo maps too and pull up the satellite images. Good luck.

Montauk17 11-19-2009 10:58 AM

My buddy has a camp on lake arthur, they have a launch. Im not worried about getting lost,i have a gps. The main thing I was worried about is mud flats, and other underwater debris. Looking at google maps,do you go across mud lake into a canal that leads into misere?

elebouef 11-19-2009 11:12 AM

Once you get in the Intracoastal canal go West till you see the 205 mile marker on your right. At the 205 there are 2 openings on the left take the second one(the water is high right now) and Y off to the right heading more or less west again, you will travel about a 1/2 mile and the canal will turn left again follow it till the opening. On your right before the opening there is a canal(pipeline canal or 7 mile canal) don't take it keep on straight in the opening which I think google says mud lake stay to your right of the first tree island and to the left of the bigger island on your right. You will see and opening about 1/4 mile to the south and that is crooked bayou misere. Follow it till you get to the lake. The crooked bayou has alot of turns in it but it is your route to the lake.
Hope I didn't loose you but I tried to go in details

Red Devil 11-19-2009 11:18 AM

If you are looking at the maps, on the west side as you enter into mud lake there is a canal called bayou misere. That will take you to the lake. With the water as high as it is, you should be able to cut across that flat coming off of the intracoastal. Most of the time, people will mark the run with bamboo or PVC. You shouldn't have any problems. We used to have a houseboat back there and we were out there all the time.

Yeah, but not in the lake itself. They park on the banks and walk into the marsh. If you go fishing, you should be just fine.

Any tips on fishing back there? A customer told me he went back there last week and caught a limit of reds and a few bass.

elebouef 11-19-2009 11:58 AM

Probably when you get into the lake Y off to the left and head towards the cut that goes into Miami Corp. Usually right at the cut with the camp on your right you can catch whatever is coming out of Miami. Miami is close right now for fishing but do what you want. You can fish right at the opening and they can't do you anything, not that Miami watches much any how.
When do yo plan on going

Montauk17 11-19-2009 11:59 AM

We plan on going saturday after we make a morning hunt in gueydan.

Montauk17 11-19-2009 12:06 PM

Do I shoot straight across mud lake into bayou misere,or do I have to go around the big island?

Red Devil 11-19-2009 12:19 PM

If you are talking about Mud lake, you can go straight into the canal. You don't have to go around that island.

Montauk17 11-19-2009 12:54 PM

Cool, thanks for the info guys. We are going to give it a shot saturday.

Montauk17 11-19-2009 01:22 PM

Im just curious....when does miami corp open and close? Is there a hp limit like lacassine?

Red Devil 11-19-2009 02:16 PM

I think it runs from March to Oct just like the reserve. Not sure aboput the HP size.

Jordan 11-19-2009 02:18 PM

Red Devil 11-19-2009 02:21 PM

That is false, lots of guys hunting along the edge of the lake. Some got blinds built and some just hunt out of the boat.

Red Devil 11-19-2009 02:27 PM

Must have changed from whe I hunted there. It's been about 8 or 9 years since I've been back there. Some of my friends have a blind they built on the lake but never hunt it. My bad.

Montauk17 11-19-2009 03:11 PM

Lake Misere is public waters,correct?

Yes it is and Miami is open from middle of March to the end of August and it is 25 hp(33.3cubic inch) and yes they do still patrol that area.

Ive never seen anyone hunting in the middle of the lake, plus its ok to hunt blinds there, but you have to remove them after the hunt...

Make sure you read the small signs. That lake is considered Lacassine, and is off limits to fishing during certian months. Check into it..

Red Devil 11-19-2009 06:36 PM

Catdaddy, I just looked at the map and the lake is NOT part of Lacassine Refuge. The marsh is the south boundary.

Was it a up-to-date map? I know they've started calling all dat lacassine

i could be wrong..

Red Devil 11-19-2009 06:43 PM

Actually it was a 2003 map. I'm 39 and I've always called it Lacassine. We've always fished the lake and snake run year round. We've had game wardens come to the house boat during hunting season and we were running jugs and they never said anything.

Ok. I'd say fish it, if you get told different...then ...

Deadly D 11-19-2009 07:03 PM

The lake and bayou is open year round. The land that borders them is considered the refuge

Montauk17 11-19-2009 07:28 PM

So I should not have a problem fishing in there during duck season?

Bring you a gun and shoot back:*****::*****:No you shouldnt but be polite and dont get to close around them to scare off there ducks and shouldnt be a problem

Montauk17 11-19-2009 07:45 PM

Might bring the 12 gauge and hit some fly bys while fishing :)

Ray 11-19-2009 10:53 PM

I hunted alligators on that area. We were able to hang lines all along the North side of Misere but not in the lake.
We did hang lines all over the cut where we went into the bayou.
There is another way in a couple miles East of the Gibstown Bridge.
Launch at the bridge and head East. When the ICW turns left, keep going straight.
Then you are in the lake.

cajunkersh 11-20-2009 09:43 AM

Not sure now, But there was a 25hp restriction, but have not fish in there in a long time. Good Luck and post some picks.

Finfeatherfur 11-20-2009 10:04 AM

Montauk, just FYI - All that marsh is leased, and they have hunters out there that will be moving around also, so watch out for other boats. Francis Drilling Fluids has a house boat out there and a big lease, so be careful of the traffic. Wasn't that long ago, we had a fatality from a two boat collision on the LAHC.

I would be hitting brush tops w/ a red shad worm if I was out there! I don't know why, but they love red shad culprits back there in high water. Good luck!

And - I absolutely love your avata, aint nothing like a nice pair in a tight shirt!

Montauk17 11-20-2009 10:12 AM

Thanks for the info, but I think I will hold off untill duck season is over. Im a duck hunter as well so I know how it is for someone to run all your ducks off.

The marsh is leased but the lake is open to fish in. FDF doesn't have a house boat he has a camp which can't be reached unless you go thru a locked gate which is up in the Miami Corp canal. Most of FDF's boat traffic is late Friday afternoon or he flies them in. By fishing at the opening of the main canal which goes into Miami is a wide open area and he wouldn't of distrubed any one.
Miami Corp is closed to all fishing now but it seems that the only ones who gets checked out there during the season are the 25hp bass club. I am not relaying this as a rumor. Been there for the last few years even back when you had to get in the cut from Latania and haven't been checked.
