BAM!!! Dularge Spring Trout Run Begins!

3 Attachment(s)
Today was the day we have been waiting for in regards to the spring speckled trout run! The people that get paid to predict weather have been consistently wrong the past few days and today was no different. The radar looked good at 4:30 this morning and the crew was amped to go fishing. I ran a boat for Capt. Marty's 3 boat charter group and we were all prepared for a day of shrimp soaking. With fresh bait we rolled out in the fog but quickly realized the conditions in front of us were perfect trout conditions! The lakes were slick calm and the water was gorgeous! First stop in crystal clean water put 7 trout on ice and the switch turned off. Heard some radio chatter among the crew and off we went. Pulled up to an oyster reef and the guys were slinging in trout almost every cast. This hot action lasted until we had 50 fish in the box. The bite slowed down and we were off to spot number 3. I was going to fish another reef when I heard gulls laughing. In the distance I could see them crashing on shrimp, which was a welcomed sight!! Without hesitation I eased up and got a closer look. Yep, definitely shrimp popping! It was on everycast and my crew was smashing the trout again! This is what we've been waiting for after a rather dismal March. The guys had the time of their lives catching more fish than the ever have in their life! Nearly 300 trout hit the tables today between 3 boats! It's on! Come get it! 225-776-9820Attachment 65868Attachment 65869Attachment 65870

What a thing to say on another mans report.

BassYakR 04-07-2014 08:06 AM

its just an observation man...

BuckingFastard 04-07-2014 08:18 AM

it is a lot of fish but they honestly are small. seems like they are always small from around that area. again this is purely observational... impressive numbers for sure.

southern151 04-07-2014 08:21 AM

That sure beats anything I caught this weekend! Way to get on em!

BassYakR 04-07-2014 08:23 AM

I wasn't bashing the guy! THey caught a lot of fish congrats...

bayouchub 04-07-2014 08:38 AM

No reason to call out the size of the guys fish. Would you have caught bigger trout out of dularge yesterday?

BassYakR 04-07-2014 08:50 AM

couldn't tell you.... bc I didn't go... nor have I ever been to dularge... was just posting an observation. sorry if you didn't like my post...

keakar 04-07-2014 08:51 AM

so what if they were school trout? that's not the point of the post, the point is the specks showed up in large numbers and those school trout will fatten up quickly in just a week or two.

great trip guys and thanks for the good news that the spring migration is starting

Capt. Marty LaCoste 04-07-2014 10:38 AM

12-17 inch trout. I've never considered a legal trout too small, and prefer eating a 12 inch trout over a bigger trout anyday of the week. Thin and crispy is my favorite. Great job Capt Rob putting the guys on a trip of a lifetime. They had a blast and have never experienced such a incredible bite ever before.

When is the last time you ever spread 100 trout of any size across the deck of your boat ( if you own one) LOL

BassYakR 04-07-2014 11:42 AM

cant have 100 trout on the deck of a boat over here... but theres been plenty of limits on the deck if you must know. but myself id rather 3 big bites than a bunch of small fish.

Not a problem just keep your personal comment on another persons fishing report to yourself.

BassYakR 04-07-2014 11:51 AM

I WASNT BASHING THE REPORT!!! JUST MAKING AN OBSERVATION (that I know for a fact that other ppl were thinking) bc I was told by multiple ppl "damn that's a lot of fish but all so small"

So its your job to make their observation known? Like you say you target "bigger" fish. Would you want him to get on one of your reports and say "well you got one decent fish but you didnt catch anything else?"

BassYakR 04-07-2014 12:19 PM

wouldn't bother me a bit... I forgot that the internet is such serious business tho... my apologies!

It is serious business for the GUIDE that posted this catch, it's how he makes his living.

BassYakR 04-07-2014 12:24 PM

my opinion on the case wont effect his business in anyway. Im a guy with no boat that cant catch 100 trout remember? Either way Im done here guys its been fun... it did pass my work day very well tho. I apologize to the OP if I offended him in anyway. wasn't bashing you in anyway even if it came across that way. Im sure your "sports" were very excited with the catch.

bayouchub 04-07-2014 12:28 PM

It was just a classless comment.

maybe so... I apologized... s.h.i.t happens

BuckingFastard 04-07-2014 12:36 PM

dang, didnt know i wasnt entitled to my own opinion... ive thrown 100 trout on a deck with 4 people, not 10.. whats your point... again, this was an observation about the difference in size of fish from location to location... not the size of your junk or ego. youve blown this completely out of proportion cause nobody was bashing anything. we both posted exactly what was seen...

Only in Big Lake..... fine anywhere else in the state.

25 or bust.......

fishaholic82 04-07-2014 01:17 PM

It's not illegal on this side of the state. Our limit is still 25 per day and at least 12". I understand the desire to catch big fish but as Marty said I'd rather eat the barely legal sized ones any day of the week. Hopefully one day I'll be able to make a trip on y'all side of the state so that I can come home with a speck big enough for my taxidermist to over charge on it but for now I'll stick to school trout and fat reds!

I agree. Whatever is legal and fills the box is fine with me.

BuckingFastard 04-07-2014 01:19 PM
