Drones + Fishing = Awesome
Have you been paying attention to the sky above the marsh? If you have been, then you would have seen an unusual looking and sounding bird up there. Except for one thing...
It's not a bird. Check out this YouTube video: Using a Drone to Scout for Fish |
That's bad a s s

Dang, us office fishermen can use this to find ol' W fishin' spots! They even have gps on that drone. Gonna be hard to figure 8 a plane though....
|
Oh, it can perform a figure 8 to hold a position. No problem there!
|
he's saying the boat can't figure 8 the drone
|
Man could you imagine the possibilities? You can scout for ducks and geese from the camp.

Exactly what I was thinking

Yep or snag it with a 3/8oz yellow mouth jig and bring it down to earth and reverse engineer it like a insurgent. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |
People have shot at it in St. Bernard.
The Marine Corps also tested the feasibility of shooting down a small UAS. (they were testing the DragonEye). They were unable to do so. It's hard but if I ever get a spare I'd love to try it out myself. |

I'd be more worried about the accurate casting of a Louisiana fisherman than most Marines though! I'd throw a double rig that had 1/4oz jigheads on it. |

Math geek could take that thing down with his potato gun bait launcher
|
Are you flying in FPV(first Person view)? I would assume you were since you have the GPS mounted but didn't see a monitor or goggles when it showed you launching from the back of your truck.

The plane won't get close enough for a shotgun. I would try using a potato cannon with a net in the payload. I have seen those depleted uranium shells for shotguns. I would be interested to try that. |

Yes, I do. I fly the plane LOS on launch until I can get it to a couple hundred feet. Then I switch it from manual control over to autopilot so I can sit down and put the goggles on. If I have my partner to throw the plane for me then I just leave my goggles on. |

Never have to drive to the beach to check the water out. Just fly my plane..Thing is sweet. How much it cost you to build? Also is it run on fuel or batts?
|
|
I use a 5100mah battery to run the electronics and motor.
I get on average 20 miles to the battery pack. I got 25 miles the other day. I get the "cost question" a lot. Cost really is relevant because all the money in the world will not buy you the technical knowledge and hard skills necessary to understand, build and deploy a UAS on your own. The entire system ran me about 2k, but I also understand electronics, how to solder, how to fly RC using LOS, etc. I will tell you that building and employing a system like this is a lot of fun! So don't let the above discourage you. This doesn't take the fun out of fishing no more than having outboards took the fun out of rowing. |
I think you need to hook up with my buddy Cy Brown:

Cool vid capt. I get nervous every time I fly my plane and I ways keep it well within eyesight. Couldn't imagine flying a plane that I had that much invested in it 5 miles or so away. |

I've seen ducks jump up to them but never geese. Geese hate airplanes though! Usually just jump up and set back down in the same field though Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |
