Cooler?

What's size cooler you have and what do you use it for? Plan on getting a yeti or k2 but trying to figure wht size is best to use As a fish box or everything else.

AubreyLaHaye458 01-08-2014 08:05 PM

I have a 60 and 20 qt k2. The 20 stays in the back of the truck and is perfect for a 12 pack and a bag of ice. I use the 60 as a fish box or deer/pig box or special occasions that require a lot of beer. Haha.

But you have to make sure you get the right ice. That's the key.

I have a few yetis and I use my 65qt. the most.

jdog1908 01-08-2014 08:28 PM

I have a 65 Yeti, hasen't left the back of my truck since june, I load it and take drinks and stuff to customers job sites. A 20# bag stays good for 4+ days in summer

meaux fishing 01-08-2014 08:34 PM

If you fish the east side a 65 won't hold a 4 man limit of trout

Nope, you'd need a 120 for that.

bsoileau 01-08-2014 10:08 PM

I have a 70 K2 and fits perfect in front of my frontier.

X 2.... Not sure why anyone would want to box fish in that heavy ice chest. A couple of bags of ice and a normal cooler work just fine.

Yeti's are very heavy and expensive.

Exactly, save $350, get a Coleman Extreme.

duckman1911 01-09-2014 07:31 AM

I fish with two 50qt and a 120qt coleman extreme ice chests. They work just fine and if someone steals one out of my truck im out 60 bucks instead of 400+.

swamp snorkler 01-09-2014 10:02 AM

make sure you pre cool them yetis and use inside out frozen ice

Samarai 01-09-2014 10:03 AM

i would not want to throw fish into a 400 dollar cooler. It kind of defeats the purpose. Who needs fish to be kept cold for 4-5 days. would be a pain to haul off the boat to clean, and the stains left behind would kill that cooler

Hitinitdaily 01-09-2014 10:41 AM

I have a 20, 70 and 120 K2 and love them all! Im 155lbs and can lift anyone of them in and out of my truck. I also see you are from Lafayette, to me it should be a no brainer on buying the K2 Cooler. Its based out of Lafayette, LA and your money is going to local people. I don't know Mr. Yeti or Mr. Coleman, so I much rather know my money is going towards a quality product from a Local Company I can easily deal with in case of a warranty issue. I would check out Rouse's Grocery stores, they have the best pricing on K2 coolers!

FF_T_Warren 01-09-2014 12:16 PM

Once again you get your money out of yeti and k2 on durability. A Coleman ain't lasting 10 years unless you rarely use it and baby it

They didn't start making Yeti until 2006. So how can you say they will last 10 years?

And its certainly not going to make it 10 years when somebody snatches that jewel out of your truck.

FF_T_Warren 01-09-2014 03:42 PM

Lol ok. I know quality when I see it. Come back in 3 years and you can tell me how I was right. What a joke...
Also I chain it in so unless they have bolt cutters, torch, or grinder then it should be ok. If they want it that bad, get after it

Nickt87 01-09-2014 04:03 PM

75 qt yeti stays on the bow of my 17' aluminum boat. To hold fish and at a minimum add some weight and help with the porpoising. Seriously

Deer season I take it to the deer camp and can fit 2 deer quartered easily with light ice. When I get home pull the plug and keep ice on it for another 5 days to cure.

I use my regular ole igloo for everyday stuff though.

Please post a link to a video of you lifting the loaded 120qt out of your truck.

I'm 190lbs and don't care to carry my 60 loaded down, much less lift it up into my boat when it's trailered...

salty dogg 01-09-2014 05:03 PM

I have a 24,65 and 105 yeti that all work great, the only problem is the bigger you go the heavier they are. I would look into the Teflon pads to replace the rubber ones on the bottom of the cooler(it makes sliding the ice chest in and out of the boat a lot easier)

I dont debate the fact that yeti or k2 coolers are worth every penny. They are built tough and should last a lifetime with reasonable care. They just arent for everyone . A hardcore guy would be servered well by one. Weekend warriors like me it will likely never pay off. I freak out people all the time when I tell em I paid 7k for my tool box and it was empty. Spend what you want and be happy.

Couldn't agree more. Not everyone needs one nor would I try to talk someone into one. It's a lot of money but you will get what u pay for. And to say they won't last 10 years is just comical. As long as it doesn't get stolen I would not doubt that in 30 yrs I'll still be using that yeti that I bought when I was 26. To justify a yeti purchase by saving on ice is comical as well. But justifying it as you aren't replacing an ice every two years is a pretty sellable argument in my eyes. That's why I got one cuz every year I was buying a new box

Its not the saving money on the actual price of ice, its the convienence of not having to leave the house or camp and constantly keep grabbing ice all weekend from the store. Thats a 30min ride at my deer camp. So maybe that makes me a lazy sob but thats me. My time is worth more than my money on the weekends.

No doubt i'll have mine in 10yrs.

Doesnt make you a lazy sob at all. At least not in my eyes. If it works for you and you're happy to hell with everyone else is what I say. No matter if you're a coleman guy or a yeti guy. Do your thing and enjoy your time. We only get to do this once. Good fishing and God Bless not matter what cooler you use. :)

No doubt they will last 10 years. Have had my 65qt for 6year, it never stays indoors! Been in the sun it's whole life thrown around neglected. My 120qt Coleman extreme got used twice in a year and stayed out in the shop... Lid warped and won't hold ice very long anymore.. Use it to haul shrimp from behind the weirs now... Lol

Not at all man. Another good reason in my eyes

mriguy 01-09-2014 10:28 PM

I keep a 20qt K2 (purple and gold) in my truck stocked with icy beverages at all times. Going to get a 50qt Yeti for the bow of the boat.

Cause it looks cool to stand on it to fish

Ain't no way 1 man gonna pick a 120qt yeti loaded down out if truck solo. Just ain't gonna happen. You may be able to pull it out n let it fall. That's about it though

I know what free deer meat is!!! :)

Goooh 01-10-2014 01:53 PM

No modifications to that awkwardly wide cooler either.

The way you have to lift those things makes it feel heavier than it should.
