Duck Situation for the second split?

Just sitting here at work thinking that with these last good cold fronts the ducks should be here for the second split. Have yall been seeing some new birds getting yall blinds ready for the second split

ckinchen 12-11-2013 02:26 PM

Great question, the reports on the du migration site are very strong right now.

huntin fool 12-11-2013 02:33 PM

Word is our place is still holding lots of birds and geese are showing up big time on the ridges. Should be good. Too bad this weekends weather is crap.

BIG-C 12-11-2013 03:23 PM

North of I-49,if one wants to land another one will have to get up.I don't do rain so I will not be hunting Saturday unless its blows over before daylight.

AubreyLaHaye458 12-11-2013 04:19 PM

I saw what looked like a large group of ducks a whole ago. About to do some recon and I will report back

Big push of ducks the past week here in Kaplan. Mostly spoonies and teal with some pins and mallards mixed in.

Hope more birds are down. I am in Tulsa at our corporate office this week so I have not been able to check thing out. I will try to go on FRI.

Quackhead62 12-11-2013 04:57 PM

I've been hearing good reports myself. These fronts had to push some big groups of ducks. Yesterday down the road from the shop there are some big bodies of geese on the ground

Some of y'all are talking like the weather will be bad. GC is calling for 30% rain with WNW winds at 15. I will be there........ Was in Cameron Meadows today for work saw quiet a few birds and also on the Big Burns. Any reports for the Superior Canal area???

all star rod 12-11-2013 07:08 PM

I have been in Tulsa since Monday and snow is still on the ground since this past Thurs / Fri. Hope this pushed the ducks South.

I hope....flying home Thurs night and will go check my spot on FRI plus rebrush things. All the other guys I share lease with are offshore. Looks like it will be me and my 13 year old and a buddy of mine hunting SAT morning.

I bet that area north of kaplan is holding birds....especially geese.

DUCKGOGETTER 12-11-2013 08:41 PM

I heard that we still had a good amount of birds in our area in gc

Bucoo 12-11-2013 08:43 PM

Have thousands of ducks and geese around mermentau. Lots of teal and spoonies but also a Bunch of mallards and pintail. Went check out some marsh today around grand lake area and got some blinds ready and it was covered in ducks also. Tons of mallards.

Tell us all. We all might go there Saturday. I hope he has room!

aquaholic 12-11-2013 11:38 PM

They have all left from here. We have 6 inches of ice and no floodwater. If our rivers were out it would be stupid right now!! Wishing the best of luck to y'all. It will be stupid here whenever we finally thaw.

Bdub 12-12-2013 12:21 AM

Sucks I'll be going into it blind this weekend, wont be getting to grand chenier til Friday evening, I'll be lucky if I have enough daylight to gas up the boat but I got a good feeling we got some birds down there...Heard there was plenty of water in little chenier so looks like they may be in the potholes. I got a good feeling about it though.

DUCKGOGETTER 12-12-2013 02:14 AM

That's my only worry is too much water where i'm at and that means diving duck city

Gottogo49 12-12-2013 07:26 AM

Lots of gray ducks in Big Pasture.

A lot of birds in Klondike area marshes. I saw a lot of mallards and greys and had plenty of ringnecks with a few canvasbacks. One thing I am worried about is teal. Everyone we talked to around the area isn't seeing many but we will see Saturday

Man, I hope there are some teal. That's about all we had the first split.

Quackhead62 12-12-2013 07:41 PM

Yea I'm sure Trent and them are. If they are thats a really good situation for us.

I hope yall still have them. We had some the first week and after that we would see a couple here and there. I like to start the morning out with 6 or 8 first thing to get the hunt started.

Same here!! Makes for a quick limit when you start out like that. Good luck.

Our teal population took a dramatic turn for the worse. I was at farm two days in a row and nothing like it was 1split

huntin fool 12-13-2013 11:03 AM

Least y'all had teal. I've had 7 all big duck season, and 2 have came from my lease.
Nothing but Greys, 1 canvas back, and some weidgon.
