Your biggest trout caught in/around V Bay?

Just curious to hear what's the biggest others have caught in and around the bay. I just started fishing the bay on the reg recently, but about 12 years ago me and a buddy hit some hammers at Tee Butte one afternoon in May. Weather was pretty good and had green water at the reef. We only caught 12 fish, but every one was over 5 lbs. and I caught one that was 7 lbs. Didn't measure it or take pictures (before cellphones with cameras) but it was as long as the icechest. Man that was fun!

Forgot to add, caught them all on queen cocahoes in LSU color. Would have loved to have had some big live croaker or pogies to try on them.

I caught a 26" 6lb 10oz trout on blue point about 10 years ago. Avocado red cocahoe. Only caught 3 that day. That one & a 4.5 & one a little over 5. When I was at the taxidermist with one I caught on big lake once they had a trout over there caught on one if the outside reefs was 27.5" and weighed 9.2lb. Was the weirdest looking trout I had ever seen and the biggest I have ever saw come from there.

4lb... Only fish bay when it's on in close. I'd rather take trip to bay than run thru marsh island. I guess it's a confidence thing

You can bet your a** I'm gonna hit Tee Butte hard this coming spring now that I have a boat again. I know a guy who's dad caught one a little over 7 at Dry Reef this past year also.

What's the largest you've ever heard about from the bay area?

Over/under on # of boats at blue point next weekend?

Biggest one was three years ago at 8lbs. Caught in weeks bay. We had 75 fish and that one barely stood out. We had a couple at six and many 4-5s. Following weekend I dropped one around the same size. So far this year only a couple of 5s.

8.2 3 years ago in the cove around 1pm on a she dog!!!!! Good times

Clampy 11-25-2013 09:51 AM

I know a guy that claims he caught a 11.5 inside marsh island. I saw the pics. Really big fish prolly went close to 8 but he wouldn't come off that 11.5 noise. I told him to register it as would have been the number 2 or 3 in the state. He wasn't interested.

happened to have them on my work cpu. That big one right up front is the 8lber. You can see how it doesn't really stand out that much from the rest.

my very stingy dad caught that 8lber and he hasn't mounted it yet, dang thing is still frozen in the freezer, I told him I'm not letting him keep another one like it and we are just going to get a replica next time. lol

I want to say it was in October, but could have been November. Crazy thing is we haven't found fish in that spot since that trip.

Sounds like my old man. He could catch the state record and he'd filet it before paying $300 to mount it.:*****:

Wow. That's some awesome fish.

That's a hog! If it was during the summer that would almost guarantee you a boat in the STAR tournament.

Speaking of the STAR, have there ever been any tagged redfish caught in the bay?

My son kyle and I got on some solid fish about 3 Novembers ago in weeks bay. We had a one man limit with a 6, two 5.5's and a 5 and quite a few 3's and 4's. Caught all of the biggest ones in about 20 minutes of each other. Had a few during the same time that broke off that never got to the top of the water. Wouldn't mind finding another school like that.

YellowMouth7 11-26-2013 10:59 AM

Its crazy how some years the fish are just sooooo much bigger....its been 3 years since i got on big schools of big fish out there like that.

That would be a nod to the cyclical theory.
Sometimes they big here. Sometimes they big over there.

I think its crazy how the bay goes from a here and there spot then the next weekend its on fire and its like the fish have arrived! I'd like to find the path that they take in and out the bay! You would think the pass, but I've never smoked nice trout in there it seems they are ALWAYS on the smaller side.

But has anyone noticed how we haven't had birds really working over the last two years. Usually they area always working in the hammock and around the point, at least at the beginning of fall when the white trout are thick. I haven't seen that in two years. I'm about to head to big lake just to be a part of that, so much fun watching the trout crush the shrimp and jump out the water after them!

Fishmaster19 11-26-2013 11:23 AM

I caught one that was 26.5in three years ago in July at tee-Butte. Also about 12 years ago my dad and a friend went some time in October and they caught 37 and the average weight was 5.5lbs!

MattMigues 11-26-2013 11:59 AM

I had a fish caught around mud point 3 years ago in june woulda won STAR if i'd bought a ticket that year 7 even, last fall 6.5 hung a hawg this year in august in weeks bay on she dawg was over 5 but threw the bait while i was trying to get net from under my trawl.

Last year i had a friend weigh 10 fish stringer that went 52lbs caught in bay. and same guy is a guide so can't enter star but i've seen him with 2 over 7 and 1 over 6 same day in cove.

Jrchip1 11-26-2013 12:08 PM

Clampy 11-26-2013 12:27 PM

outcast2 11-26-2013 01:32 PM

BassYakR 11-26-2013 01:48 PM

I never catch big fish during star anyways.... its always dec-april

Crawl79 11-26-2013 05:53 PM

Never caught any that size in the bay but have had a couple of trips outside the pass where we caught limits of 3-7lb trout.

This was 15+ years ago.

Not gonna happen bro. I'll storm the capital if it's proposed!

BTW, is there a "Bay record" like at Big Lake?
