NEW PROJECT: GCOutdoors.com - Please help!
I've hinted recently that I had another project in the works, and that I had another way coming up for everyone to learn some SaltyCajun cash before the next raffle. I am now ready to release my new project, the Gulf Coast Outdoors Wiki. For those of you that have used a wiki in the past (e.g. Wikipedia, etc), the format will be very familiar, only with a theme that looks kind of like Microsoft Sharepoint, if you've used that previously. This wiki is a place to create and store articles about anything outdoor-related for the Gulf Coast region, including fishing, hunting, camping, boating, waterskiing, sports, travel, etc.
http://www.gcoutdoors.com/w/ If you create an account over there using the same handle you use here (or PM me here with the handle you are using over there), I will give you anywhere from $10 - $500 SC cash for any articles you create or add useful information to, depending on the value of the contribution. ;) An article can begin as only a few sentences on the topic, so please don't think you don't know enough about the topic to write the article. Get it started and others will fill in the blanks! ;) In addition, I will choose one person per month as the "Contributor of the Month" and send them their choice of a PayPal or gift certificate for $50, or give them a free one-year Premium Membership here at SC. I may also choose a "Contributor of the Year" for a larger award, at my discretion. I hope this will turn into a valuable source of information for outdoorsmen along the entire Gulf Coast, so invite everyone you know to contribute! |

i was wondering the same thing fool

actually I am kinda confused about this. Won't this take away some of the conversation from the saltycajun? Excuse my ignorance, I'm sure you thought this through very thoroughly. Maybe you could explain the purpose of this site a little better for me

I was thinking the same thing. The way i thought it through... Saltycajun was made to share fishing and hunting reports and shoot the bull. Gcoutdoors was made to keep reliable information about the GC stored and not over run with comments. In example - for Gcoutdoors Calcasieu Lake is a Saltwater lake Located in Southwest Louisiana. It is mainly located in Cameron parish. This fishery is also known as Big lake by the locals. Calcasieu Lake is a major fishery, for both commercial and recreational anglers. Calcasieu Lake consists of a wide variety of saltwater fish, But the main recreational species are Redfish,Spotted Sea trout,Flounder. It's main commercial species consist of Shrimp, oysters, and crabs. It is also home of the rare albino dolphin, named pinky by many locals. ~Huntin Fool all rights reserved ;) for saltycajun- Limited out on biglake. 15 specks,5 reds. had a blast fished the birds and threw mainly sand eel jrs. see the difference? |

Just added more to Calcasieu Lake thread.
Threads are now under "random Pages" |
Fool hit it on the head. GCO is a repository of information, as opposed to a message board. It is more for data versus opinion and talk. Think of it as an encyclopedia site. ;)
@bay_slayer: You can copy and paste articles with the permission of the original author. If the info is on another public site (i.e. another wiki), it is considered public domain and is fair game for C&P. However, you cannot take someone's blog post, or a quote from their website, and C&P it to GCO. It must be public domain or you must have permission from the author. Please read the info on the main page that explains how to create an article. You will need to do a search for the topic (i.e. search for Calcasieu Lake). If the topic does not exist, you will be given the option to create it. ;) |

Signed up as eman and started a continuing wiki on boatless salt water fishing in south La.:work:

I moved your entry into a new topic called "Boatless Fishing".
Please make sure to create articles properly. To do this correctly, just type the topic into the search box on the left and hit Go. If the topic doesn't already exist, it will give you the option to create it. Don't create your articles under existing pages like Community Portal, etc. ;) |

So if somebody did one on wadefishing, it would fall under boatless? |
I would make a separate article for Wadefishing, and we can add a link in the Boatless Fishing to the Wadefishing article.

Keep in mind that everybody is a moderator on a wiki. If you see something that is incorrect or doesn't belong (spam, etc), you can edit the article and remove the info. Everyone also has the ability to add to an existing article, so if you see something missing, add it! You can add one single fact, or an entire article. A wiki is a collaboration tool, so every article belongs to everyone. ;)
Some tips for writing in a wiki: 1.) Don't enter any outside links except as references to substantiate claims. 2.) Don't sign your name to an article. Articles are written and owned by everyone. 3.) Don't use any first person statements, such as "I like to use..." Instead use "Some people like to use..." or something similar. 4.) If you see something wrong in an article, fix it! :) Even if it is just correcting the spelling, grammar, or punctuation of information already written. 5.) If you create an article, feel free to go into other articles and add links to it. For example, if you write an article about Mirrolures, you can do a search for Mirrolures in other articles and make the word Mirrolures in each article point to the Mirrolure article you created. ;) 6.) Start an article if it doesn't already exist. If you do a search for Mirrolure and it returns no results, click the link that says "Create an Article" and write a quick article about Mirrolures, even if it is as simple as one line that says "Mirrolures are artificial fishing lures." Someone else can come along later and add additional information. Feel free to ask any questions you may have about how to use the wiki! This is a resource for all of you to contribute to and use. Nobody is making a penny off of it. ;) |
