Red bug bite remedies?
I spent the day yesterday running through our wooded lot in north louisiana. Today my legs are ate up with what I think are red bugs. This crap itches like crazy..... Anybody have any remedies for red bug bites?
Scratch em til they bleed!!! Just be glad u ain't got none on your nuts! That seems to be their sweet spot after a squirrel hunt.
Ive heard alcohol, toothepaste (supposed to smother them) Ive only found that "time" is the only remedy. Its definitely a miserable experience, I hate them things!!!
This is gonna make you scream... but is the only thing that worked for me with red bugs and chiggers.
get about 1 lb of epsom salts... sit in the bathtub and let the water run as hot as it will go... (as hot as you can stand it) let the hot water run over your legs where the bites are... (it will make you invent a new language... the cover your feet in epsom salt for a few minutes then rinse again with hot water... After i do this.. no more itch for 1-2 days... then need to repeat if the itch comes back.... the water has to be dang near scalding hot. |
I get a plastic fork and scratch the crap out of them until the skin breaks and pour rubbing alcohol on em. While doing this drink two stout drinks as fast as you can of whiskey on the rocks you'll be smiling in the end. Lol

For some reason I am thinking turpentine. Haven't had red bugs sinc I was a kid though.
Clear nail polish over the bites
Take a hot bath with CLOROX in the water, and when u finish rub a little on.
Damn.... All sound unpleasant except for the whiskey! At this point a flame thrower would be better than the itching.
They sell some stuff at the pharmacy called Chigger-rid or something like that. It coats the bite and suffocates them and it helps the itching too.
+2 on Clorox bath...

red bugs remedy
got them a couple week ends ago, also. i swear this stuff called cortizone 10-plus creme ( it has 1% hydrocortisone ) in it. Smear a small dab on the bug bites this will stop the itching immediately reapply when itching begins again. Also wear loose clothing afterwards as tight clothing rubs on bites and makes them itch again.Got my creme at kmart like $5 well worth it man.

Chigg away

Get a dish towel with hot soapy water and ammonia and wash yourself down. Works with ant bites as well.
The chiggers used their mouthparts and injected you with some enzymes and then sucked out the juices:eek::rotfl: "Dang, nature be scary" - unknown UL Monroe biology major, 2004 |

As for remedies after you get the bites, honestly there are none. I have tried every "coonass" remedy under the sun. I have tried putting half a gallon to a gallon of Clorox in my bath!! Clear fingernail polish! Prescription ointment! Some of these may help a little, or maybe just for a handful of bites. But if they really get you, you're basically just screwed and gotta wait it out. Clear fingernail polish is probably the most relief but not much help. |
Get some green alchohol pour 3 bottles in a tub with scalding hot water
1 ounce of garlic juice, drink half pour the other half in the water 1 bottle of victorias secret amber romance into the tub 1/2 a jug of bleach, into the tub. Get an ice chest, put 12 beers in it and cover it with some inside out frozen in a precooled k2 cooler, set it next to the tub. Get in the tub and soak in it for 57 minutes, when ever you feel like a beer reach over and get you one. Dry your self off with dryer sheets and then cover all the bites with some clear nail polish that is on the clearance rack at the 2nd closest Dollar General to you. Dust your self with sulphur powder and then get your wife to massage you down with some wal-mart brand cortizone. Hope this helps. |

I am a expert on this. (haha) the little bugs love me. Went to doctor once had them so bad. Soak in hot tub with epson salt then use
Dr. Tichenor's Antiseptic Mouthwash , its the only thing that relieved the pain for me. |

Works for me the doctor is the one that actually told me about this. Just use cotton swab it helps releive the pain. Dont use it as mouth wash though without watering it down it will blister your mouth. (LOL)
Got them really bad after sleeping in the field for a few days couple weeks ago. I've always found that when they blister up a like an ant bite if you just scratch them good until they bleed a bit then take an alcohol pad and wipe them all down it will relieve a lot of the itching and dry them up a lot. Hurts like H#LL but doing this once or twice gets rid of them.
Clorox in a hot bath has worked for me every time . Also works for poison ivy ,oak ,sumac,

That's what I've always heard. |
You guys should google chigger bites. They aren't actually burrowed in your skin. The itch will continue long after the chigger is gone just like mosquito bites itch after the mosquito is gone. So there is no need to try and suffocate them. Hot shower after you get out of the woods should be sufficient to get rid of the bugs, but the bite is going to itch after they are gone.
Vicks vapor rub works almost instantly.
The fingernail stuff never worked for me. Apparently they live down in there till they suffocate and until they do they itch like crazy. Wait till you get some on the tip of your manhood. That was very unpleasant.
