Johnson Bayou

I've posted before about fishing the Holly Beach area and got great advice. Going down that way Saturday. Looks like the wind is gonna pick up for that day but its either Saturday or not at all. So we want to have a backup plan for getting off the beach if the wind is too much.

Last month we were down there and the beach wasn't producing. It was too dang windy. We caught a too small trout, 2 reds and 3 flounder from the pond at Little Florida but fishing access there is limited.

Anyway I was told about a place somewhere north of Johnson Bayou High School. Unfortunately the directions were pretty vague and I don't know how reliable his info is. Something about turning by the school and a stop sign. I don't want to waste half the day trying to find somewhere to fish.

I've looked at satellite on google and what not and see a few places along Bayou Rd. It looks like some sort of industry/facility at the end of it. And possibly a place just north of Hamilton Lake on 548. (Just from looking at satellite views. I'm not familiar with the area at all.)

Anybody got any advice on any places around Johnson Bayou? No boat so it will have to be accessible by foot. Like I say, we gonna fish the rocks at the beach if the wind will let us. I just want to have an alternative so we don't get skunked on the beach.. Again.

Thanks in advance guys.

Deep Bayou rd will take to Johnson Bayou, which dumps out into Sabine Lake. There's places
to fish along the RD and around boat ramp.

That's the place. I have caught some nice bass in the canal near the landing when I was younger. Huge garfish in ther too!

There is also decent bank/wade fishing at the causeway. Just keep coming west down the beach road. There is a boat ramp on the la side, you can wade in that pocket. There is also a nice lighted pier on the tx side of the bridge. That will require a tx license tho.

The wind should be good this weekend for the beach! People crab down deep bayou rd also near crain bros facility, but it doesnt produce numbers or size.

MikeinSlagle 06-28-2013 11:52 AM

Sweet. Thanks guys. I hope the beach is good.
T Top, that is one spot I was considering.
I'll give a report on how it goes.

This picture was taken about 1:30 PM today. Water was about the same all the way to Maes beach. Visability was 4" to 8" all along the coast and did not clear up a few hundred yards out. I only saw 2 shrimp boats and they were 1/2+ mile out.

Winds were out of the north to NE all morning and early PM. Early the winds were 8 to 10 mph and by 10 AM more like 5 to 7 mph.

RatherBFishin 07-01-2013 05:34 PM

So I'm gonna give it a shot in the morning. Forecast looks too good not to. What ya'll think?

You know honestly its probably kids. I think it's safe to say we all did dumb crap when we were younger. If it is kids I just hope they learn there lesson. You just have to pray for those.

I kept waiting to see some boats today. About 1.5 hours after daylight, I saw the first boat pull up to the breakers. Then a few minutes later, another boat passed going west. About 15 minutes later, the second boat came back by going east. The first boat had left by then....guess it went farther west.

These were the only 2 fishing boats that I saw......besides 4 or 5 yacks.

I guess the Guides knew something?????

Is it just me or does the green water push in closer to the beach as the tide falls? It seems like it would be the opposite, but that is what i have found.

MarshRat89 07-02-2013 09:28 AM

They left my fish box just took the yeti.

huntin fool 07-02-2013 11:32 AM
