Why Do You Fish??

Just out of curiousity, why do we fish...Dont come up with "i enjoy it" or "relaxing"....honest answers, is it chasing limits, food, hawgs, trying to figure them out, etcc? What brings you back out to the water trip after trip? Please dont bring this down to the GN with sarcastic comments!!! We know bringing family is the excitement they bring us when they catch but use yourself and/or fishing partner/buddies!

Top Dawg 04-24-2013 01:44 PM

Cuz hunting season doesn't go year round.

swamp snorkler 04-24-2013 01:58 PM

Because I like to eat them

X2, plus watching a trout smoke a topwater...

SaltERedneck 04-24-2013 02:04 PM

kayak - for the cajun sleigh ride
boat (specs) - the thrill of the payoff after figuring them out and the wall hanger.
boat (bass) - strictly wall hanger

I could use a whole page on this, but the bottom line is I'm flat out addicted!
I've been on the water since I'm 3-4 yrs old, an I am now 32. If I had to stop now just put my name on a bullet. I live to fish, and fish to live, and also get full enjoyment of taking people who don't get to do it as much as I do and watch them succeed at it!
I feel the same about my ducks and deer!

mallardhead 04-24-2013 02:15 PM

X2

Sightwindow 04-24-2013 02:27 PM

Putting together the puzzle of weather, tide, bait is a big one for me. The visual aesthetics of a bright orange redfish cruising along the oysters or a trout flushing a topwater and even getting a jig a little ways down its throat and frothing the water head-shaking when being reeled in. The sound of a 18 inch plus trout thumping the fiberglass after you've hoisted it in. The wild acrobatics of a trout on a Slpap-Stick with the third set of trebles hooked in the head or near the pec fin.

I could go on and on...:D

southern151 04-24-2013 02:30 PM

As much as I don't fish, I honestly have the most enjoyment when I have someone with me and get to watch them get slammed by a big red or flounder. Make no mistake, I enjoy catching as well but, seeing someone else light up when they get that drag screaming is awesome!

I do not fish to save money on buying fish! LOL!

blackmamba 04-24-2013 02:44 PM

I like trying to figure them out. I've only been fishing for a few years so I'm really trying to figure all species out but the bass are the most frustrating/rewarding for sure. The specks are fun to try to figure out too but I think they are easier to catch than the bass, eaters not wall hangers, and that's why I fish specks, to eat them.

tgsx750f2000 04-24-2013 02:47 PM

Because I like to take pictures of my catch and post it on here!

SpotOnFishingAdventures 04-24-2013 03:08 PM

I fish for the trill of it. There is nothing like putting it all toghter and getting something that you cannot see bite the hook. And for reds if i can chase them tailing and then get them to bite. I can do it all day. Then put a new person in the mix and help them catch the same. There is nothing like it. I call it my crack.

hankscke123 04-24-2013 03:15 PM

i have addictive personality plus just love the outdoors and seeing if i can figure out what they hungrry for.but most of time they are smarter than me.

I fish bc that's what I do. I don't hunt or have any other hobbies and nothing against hunting. Am I the best, NO, but I always have a freezer full of fish! Like someone said earlier, its an addiction!

WHY DO YOU FISH

bobo23 04-24-2013 03:45 PM

I guess our creator instilled it in me, way down deep. Been fishing since I was four. Forty six y/o now and couldn't quit if I wanted to. Absolutely ate up with it, in a really good way.

youu_whoo_whoo 04-24-2013 03:53 PM

I like to fish cause i truly enjoy it. I fish for bass and redfish alot more than trout. There is something special about casting along a vegitated bank or marsh pond and watching a fish come out the grass or lillies and smoke a bait. It dosent hurt that fish taste good eather.

BIG-C 04-24-2013 03:54 PM

1-figuring out patterns 2-now that I have a son I love teaching him about the outdoors like my parents and grandparents did and 3-the thrill of setting the hook and 4-some of them taste pretty good.

FF_T_Warren 04-24-2013 04:34 PM

WHY DO YOU FISH

I fish for the next big one, simple....its an addiction, once one fish is in the box im looking for the next big one, some days its none, some days 2,3,4,5 etc...the harder that trout pulls the better the feeling, that feeling is like medicine, if i could bottle that feeling and take a dose when i needed it, I WOULD QUIT!! Sure i love eating them but, that next cast just might be the next record, thats why i keep returning for more medicine;)

AceArcher 04-24-2013 05:05 PM

For me it's a lot of reasons.

1) the peace and quiet of a still morning / afternoon on the water, listening in and seeing nature doing her thing.

2) the memory's of childhood days spent catching HUGE trophy class bluegill :)

3) the challenge of outsmarting a bunch of pretty dumb fish.... who can regularly make me look like i don't know my ***** from a hole in the wall.

4) the thrill of running down a lake at wide open throttle, wind whipping in my hair, hunkered a bit behind the center console, praying a floating log don't ruin my day much less my life.

5) The pull of a good fish on the end of the line... not knowing if you and all your techno stuff or the fish will prevail.

6) The satisfaction when it's you.

7) The Dammit All when its the fish that wins...

8) Filets... and HOT GREASE!

9) To crush your enemies, see them driven before you, and to hear the lamentation of their women. (wait... that's from something else...)

10) probably most importantly to hang out with you kids / buds / family / friends.

meaux fishing 04-24-2013 05:36 PM

I do it for the ladies...:grinpimp:

Also most of what everybody else has said

Dogface 04-24-2013 05:51 PM

To try to figure them out. The rush I get when I "fool" one. The peace and quiet of being outdoors. Spending time with good friends and family. Only get to duck hunt 3 mts of the year.

mriguy 04-24-2013 05:58 PM

Peace and quiet, hanging out with friends. Being on the water and watching the sunrise is one of my favorite things to do.

It also gives my son and I a chance to get away from the 3 crazy women that live in my house!

Duffy.yyz 04-24-2013 05:59 PM

It's just a way of life.

Mako19 04-24-2013 07:14 PM

I do it to make great memories with friends and family first. Being on the water with my dad is something that I wouldmt trade for a 17lb trout.

I do it to get away from the city and be on the water. Louisiana has so much beauty and people that do not hunt or fish may go their entire lives without seeing how beautiful the state they call home really is.

I do it because of the challe ge. I am fairly new to fishing and in my fishing career I have had a lot more days with an empty fish box than I would like to admit. But, if it was easy and I could limit out every day I am not so sure I would like it as much.

If it was easy everyone would do it.

SULPHITE 04-24-2013 07:39 PM

whats "fishing"??

i need to prioritize...

"W" 04-24-2013 07:41 PM

Cuz I don't

Smoke dope
Snort cocaine
Smoke crack
Inject herion
Or buy hookers

toolpush 04-24-2013 07:41 PM

It's the thrill of the catch. Like you said inchspinner, it an addition, just can't explain it.

"W" 04-24-2013 07:42 PM

But real question is

Why would someone ever use someone else trout in a fish off???

That is the million dollar question

Really, especially now that I have even less time to go, its about checking out from my day to day reality. When p&l, payroll, and, "oh crap, will we make it" is all you think about, the water, with or without fish is the place to be.

"W" 04-24-2013 08:31 PM

I like to Bang son

bearwash87 04-24-2013 08:33 PM

The sounds of drag stripping is like no other. No matter the species my knees start knocking when I hear that sound! Doesn't even have to be on my rod and reel. Wading and helping your buddy snag a good one with the boga can be pretty heart pumping as well. Especially when the fish runs between your legs huh gib!!

That sounds good to me, never jumped in but wont be long!

budndawn 04-24-2013 08:46 PM

For me when I'm on the water nothing else matters...work and everything else doesn't seem to exist...just me and mother nature, taking it all in to slow down everyday life and remember what its all about...its always more fun to catch but even if i dont its still all good...and the most enjoyable way to throw away money...

Matt G 04-24-2013 08:54 PM

Cause I freaking suck at fishing, and I figure eventually I'll figure it out!

outcast 04-24-2013 09:29 PM

To put as many dead fish on the deck of my boat, take pictures and post them on internet forums so everyone will think im the greatest angler that has ever lived

Will"E"Fish 04-24-2013 09:41 PM

Because I can............

Salty nurse 04-24-2013 09:54 PM

I fish because I enjoy taking in the outdoors. It doesn't get any better than being on plane down a canal at first light with the fog lifting. You can smell the salt sometimes. Sharing this with my loved ones is why I fish. Regardless if we catch or not, it's always worth it. It is nice to rack up a meat haul though, lol.

Top Dawg 04-24-2013 10:26 PM

To be honest, I fish and hunt because I feel closest to God because when you're in the outdoors you look around and KNOW there's a higher power. And to take the resources that he gave me to bring back home to my family. That right there is why I go back. That's why I live in sw Louisiana. Because it is sportsmans paradise and any day of the week I can have a delicacy sitting on my table that I caught that God put here for me.
