A little Calcasieu Shootout History
Ran across an old article that i figured most would enjoy. Shootout shouldn't be too far away so I'm sure this will get a few fired up!

Nice article!

Crazy you had to catch a 7 to get in the top 10 back then. Now a 7 will win it most years.
|
How do you look up past winners fish size
|
The star website has a leaderboard that goes back a few years but not sure how far exactly
|
For the trout shootout
|
don't think there is anything for the shootout.

Since limit change a 6.5 to 7.5 lb trout will win every year
Before limit change upper 8s and 9s won |
It may change this year... Seems like more big trout getting caught this year than the past few.
|
Always big trout caught early in the year. You just don't hear about em as much. And lot of the big trout being caught are coming out of Sabine.
|
There is a Guide Division (CPR) for CCA this year.....Pretty stoked abt it!!
|
Yes, every year it's that way. I was speaking of the people that I know, fishing big lake, catching more large trout in march than past years.
|
With the low limits and over stock of trout in the lake you will not see any huge trout caught for shootout......
We always catch big trout 7-8lbs... have not heard of a 9-10 this year |
W what year did the limit get lowered?

if you catch a upper 6lb trout for the shoot out this year you will be top 5
before 06 you would not be in top 10 https://i.chzbgr.com/maxW500/7245430272/h022FF89F/ |
Wishful thinking maybe, would like to think maybe everything is getting back to normal after 2 major storms. Rita hitting in sept 2005(last good big trout year), and then Ike 3years late in Sept. Now 4yrs later maybe things can get back to normal??

That being said, there still wasn't any biological reason why the limits were dropped. Don't want to get that stirred up again though:rotfl: |

fishing bloomed after rita ...most redfish this lake had seen in years...trout fishing also was booming due to weirs blow out..... If anything Storms helped the fishing ....most trout live 4 years Rita has been almost 8 years :rolleyes: You sound like a Democrat still blaming a storm that happend almost a decade ago |

Lol! Why does a good thread always get warped into a 25 or bust theory?
"Come Onnn Cletus!¡!" |
Gill net bound, coming soon! WHERE R THE BIG TROUT;)
|
I surely hope the lake is coming back.
|
Look at the amount of people fishing trout shoot out now and all the idiots burning the bank a big trout won't eat right after u burn bank. Trout shoot out sat u can walk boat to boat most of the big weights from shoot out come off beach r rigs bc less pressure
|
LOTS more people on the lake now in general. And I do believe that may have something to do with the decline in big trout being caught. Jmo of course.

I know of 5 trout over 9 this yr
|
The weights of fish is up right now compared to last spring
|
Guy Stansel been on the lake catching big fish 50yrs plus and believes its a cycle. It'll get back right for a few yrs then fall off again and then get back good. I also agree w him
