Little over 7# caught in WC in July on a DOA. I've released 3 others right around the same size in my big lake tenure. She needs some company up there.

Had this one jump up on the bank trying to murder a mullet. Didn't have my scale but she was 29.5" and thick. I'm guessing 9# well over 8. Pics then quick release.

The Rooster Fish!

Sightwindow 03-26-2013 06:50 AM

I fished Venice spring and summer, mostly alone, seriously about ten years ago with topwaters and Slapsticks and Deadly Dudley straight tails fished deep. Late afternoons way downriver on good weekdays. Mud lumps, beach, jetties. Never could get past six pounds til one day on some deep rocks.

One perfect evening, I got a few five pounders on DDs right away and then started working over a black/chrome She Dog. The big girl hit about a half hour before sunset, no camera, long before camera phones. Taped out at 28.25 inches, was unhooked without any trauma, didn't want the only photo to be of a dead fish at night at Venice Marina by a security guard who would likely screw it up, so I let her go. I had never been moved by any trout mounts previous, either.

She was heavy bellied, but I really have no idea how heavy she might have gone. Shortest 45 minute ride home ever!

mr crab 03-26-2013 08:06 AM

My biggest was 9lbs 6oz. I was 11 years old. My buddys dad hooked it and fought it a bit, then handed the rod to his son, who fought it a bit, then he handed it to me. my buddys dad netted it, and freaked out when he saw that it was a spec. our pic with that fish hung in the causeway store until rita. the trout is in my buddys dads living room still today.

YellowMouth7 03-26-2013 08:20 AM

8.1 in Nov 2010 in VBAY on a char/chrome she dawg

BassYakR 03-26-2013 08:32 AM

Not sure on the weight of mine. It was 26.5'' long and pretty fat. Caught on gulp swimming mullet from my kayak in Prien Lake. June of last year.

I paid $350 at David's in Lafayette in 2011

swamp snorkler 03-26-2013 10:40 AM

8.75 Pounds = 8 Pounds 12 oz.

So you can say 8.75 pounds or 8 pounds 12 oz and either would be correct.

8.7 is actually 8 pounds 11.2 ounces

Did anyone catch 'there' big trout 'offshore'?:rotfl:

My biggest is 5.0 lbs which also equates to 5 lbs 0oz. It was caught first cast on a topwater in the Grand Isle surf. It was 'weighted' and filleted and ated

Bruh, we was up in West Cove and the tide was out so thought I could try wading but jumped out the boat and water went over my waiters. Went over to the wiers and try an catch bait but all them potlickers was blocking my entrance so found some mullits flickin at SuperCut and broke out da cast net. Got that all tangled up in my trawling motor so had to cut it. Bunch of potlickers still all up in Turner's so we went midlake area and seen some birds working without know pilgrims on em so we got in em with them sparkle beetles. I try to throw a topwater but a dang loon catch my bait in him mouth. Next cast, big blowup on my clown spook and I thoughting it was a red and didn't get the net and when I seen it swerl on top i seen them spots on its tale. Hollered 'get the net' and we got that big girl up in the Haynie and we was high fiving. We didn't have know scale but we measure her and she was 25.35 inches, but she was FAT man, I have never seen such a fat fish. There was a 12" ladiefish in her mouth. I call my buddy who is a biolologist and he gave me a length/width chart for weight but it wrong. For that inches and the biggest girth they have would only make that trout 6.75 lbs and we know that rong, cuz my biologist friend work it out on his calculater and he he come up with 6lbs 12 oz. I did my own calculations from a formula MathGeek give me and had to exskrapolate a few numbers but we figger her weigh about 9.8 lbs. I got a replika up at the camp but it don't do her justice:rotfl:
