Pardon Me For Your Time Mr Math Geek

Use five 5's, all four operations, and parenthesis to make 25.

TIA: For anyone who can help

Feesherman 02-09-2013 09:44 AM

And then plant ten trees in 5 rows with 4 trees per row.

((5-5)/5+5)*5 = 25

Chip Landry 02-09-2013 10:04 AM

That's impressive!!!

southern151 02-09-2013 10:09 AM

I would never have gotten that!

? (0/10)x5=25
Btw: I have no idea what the answer is.

"W" 02-09-2013 10:50 AM

(11111)+(11111)+(11111)+(11111)+(11111)=25

Isn't 0/10=0 and 0*5=0?
Unless I'm reading wrong or remembering the wrong rules.

try it this way
(((5-5)/5)+5)*5=25
0/5=0
0+5=5
5*5=25

Was that french math or something? Cause I couldnt read that at all......stick to english fellas!!

Matt G 02-09-2013 05:06 PM

I knew it had to end with 5*5, but that as far as I got. I asked my wife and within 45 seconds she had it. I didn't realize I married a nymph-o who's also good at math!!!

jchief 02-09-2013 08:32 PM

I got that in 5 seconds.

I mean the answer to Math Geek's equation.

strekker3 02-11-2013 11:00 AM

Also, ((((5/5)+5)*5)-5) = 25....I think
5/5 = 1
1+5 = 6
6*5 = 30
30-5 = 25

BassAssasin 02-11-2013 11:24 AM

someone deleted this thread, it really hurts my head just looking at it

That = 0 because you are saying (0/10)*5 but 0 / any number = 0 and 0*5 = 0

Lake Chuck Duck 02-11-2013 11:37 AM

I think he missed a "(" in his original post. (((5-5)/5)+5)*5=25

This was an extra point question for my neighbors kid. He's in the 4th grade and he got it.

jdm4x43732 02-11-2013 12:03 PM

Why would a person need to use an equation like this anyway. Pardon my ignorance.

swamp snorkler 02-11-2013 12:04 PM

I don't know. I have to some basic calculations with my job and I've never had to do that. I mostly use geometry though.

Yes an extra () would work for further clarification. However in an equation like that you do your () first, then perform your mult. and divide, then you + and -......in order of operation.

Would somebody please excuse my dear aunt Sally! :work:

I had a professor in school ask us to do a paper on what would happen if you were in a train that was traveling 1000mph and you shot a bullet from a gun that travels at around 700mph. Some of the answers were so funny I thought I was going to throw up from laughing so hard. one person said that the bullet would travel backwards and hit the person who shot it.
