First bay boat help!!!

i grew up freshwater fishing in Arkansas. been to fourchon and big lake a few times with some buddies recently and i can say that ill never waste another minute bass fishing again. Im looking for a bay boat but i dont know anything about them. can anyone offer up any suggestions? here is what im looking for. fiberglass, Dry ride, at least 22', seats for my kids, trim tabs, digital gauges, no less then 200hp, good electronics, power pole. i dont know anything about the type of hull i need. i know i need a dry ride and the ability to do light offshore fishing. let me know what yall think is a universal kid friednly boat that is dependable. i dont want an entry level boat.

inchspinner 02-08-2013 03:11 PM

The biggest question$$$$$$$$ how much, triton is to me the best boat with all the comfort creatures!

malliegator 02-08-2013 03:13 PM

I know everyone has opinions and there are a lot of good boats on the market. I really like the my Triton 240LTS.

Em591991 02-08-2013 03:19 PM

my buddy has a triton 24lts and he swears by it. he also says blue wave is a good boat. ive been looking at rangers and skeeters but havent heard anything about them. i know they make a good bass boat but thats about it

SuperDave 02-08-2013 03:33 PM

In on one. This should be a good thread. I'm currently researching for my next boat which will be in the 22' range.

I'm looking at blazer bay, frontier 2104, 2200 Pure Bay and nautic star.

Blazer Bay is the best boat for the money......good ride, good lines, and can handle lots of H.P.!!!

They dont have asjustable freeboard like the Haynie, but you only need that if you're under 4ft.....

1fastmerc 02-08-2013 03:37 PM

Stay away from the plywood coated boats. "Haynie"

LMAO...#1 guide boat on Big Lake...More Haynies have been put in the waters of Big Lake in the last 3 years than any other boat by a guide:rolleyes:

two of the biggest outfits have went all Haynie :thefinger::thefinger:

Em591991 02-08-2013 03:41 PM

Blazer bay is plywood coated?

Em591991 02-08-2013 03:42 PM

Ranger, skeeter?

bjhooper82 02-08-2013 03:44 PM

If I was buying a new boat it would be a Blackjack.

Haynie is obviously a great, pure fishing machine. The OP wants kid friendly!!!!! Obviously I dont believe a sane person would think of a Haynie as kid friendly. I would think a Nauticstar 22TE or Bluewave Purebay 22 would be a great choice. For more cash, Triton or Blackjack

x2. I plan on getting one next year.

jdm4x43732 02-08-2013 03:55 PM

Xpress with HD hull. Waltrips next boat

Em591991 02-08-2013 03:55 PM

What do y'all think about rangers or skeeters?

fishinpox 02-08-2013 03:57 PM

Hey Erik , get that yellowfin :)

biggun 02-08-2013 03:58 PM

It just all depends on the money you want to spend.. I've fished a custom built Alum mod-vee boat..

I wanted a nice glass boat.. I did my research.. My due diligents.. I came up with a Triton LTS.. All recommendations where if you get a 22', you are going to want a 24'.

So I looked and looked... After 4 yrs of looking.. I found a great deal on a 2008 24' LTS.. With a 4 stroke 250 Yam.

I drove 1,000 miles one way to get it.. I've never in my life believed I could be so happy with a boat..

Love my 24' Triton LTS.. Its a machine.. On a nice day not scared to go 40-50 miles out for the big stuff.

But I can get in some skinny water too..

They have Haynies, Yellowfin, Sea Hunts, Champion, Skeeter, Ranger, Blazer Bay..... They are all good... Find a boat U like. Test it out..Take Ur family out on it... See If it has the ride, layout, and accessories you want.. If it's close to what U want then buy it..

I know where there is a real nice extremely well taken care off 22 or 24' champion...Can't remember Exactly..

Let me know if you are interested.. i can put you in contact with the guy..

So a haynie is "kid friendly"?

Dont misunderstand, I think Haynie's are bad azz, but I would assume most people would prefer a lined boat with ample seating. Makes "cents" to me.

Not going to mention the freeboard:p

latravcha 02-08-2013 04:13 PM

I have a Blazer Bay and like it. My next boat would be the Sea Hunt 24 Bx

Em591991 02-08-2013 04:16 PM

What is a freeboard?

My Kenner is a great boat, but they arent made by the original builder anymore.

He now makes Frontier and Blackjack. Very sturdy quality boats. I reccomend the black jack

Em591991 02-08-2013 04:27 PM

So is ranger and skeeter synonymous with ****ty boat? Haven't gotten any feed back

Lake Chuck Duck 02-08-2013 04:29 PM

I have heard both are wet boats. However I DO NOT have first hand experience with either brand.

Ed32 02-08-2013 04:38 PM

I had a nautic star 2110 and it was a great boat for the kids with the jump seats and high sides. I had a 200 hpdi and it ran great

"W" 02-08-2013 04:38 PM

Dont get a SCB its sinks

ckinchen 02-08-2013 04:52 PM

I have a owned a Haynie, bluewave, skeeter, seapro, xpress and a few others. I just bought my second bluewave from lake area and I love it. I have ridden in just about all of them, I also like the blackjack and although it is a little slower the trition is a great boat. Haynie is a great fishing machine but to me not a good fit for my young children. Budget for 60k if you want a 24 foot boat loaded and a little more if you are looking in the direction of a shearwater. Most manufactures these days make nice boats, (there are only three ormfour i would avoid) my advice would be to get the longest boat you can afford. Fishing the beach or short rigs I have never wanted my boat to be a little smaller.

Em591991 02-08-2013 04:56 PM

Thanks

I have fished out of a ranger bay 22' and that thing was stuffed, no deck space, very small back deck...very flat running boat and not your go to type of hull for rough days....I own a Haynie now but have had 2 Kenners...I would def. look at the frontier and blackjack and blazer bays for a first time bayboat. My opinion of being in rough water stay away from skeeter and ranger...and that is just an honest opinion.

Em, meet "W". You will learn to not let it bother you. He is mad because he can't use google, his spelling returns zero results...

2ndamendment 02-08-2013 05:45 PM

If you haven't done so, try and hook up with a few members on here. Members have a variety of hulls. Go take a ride with each and get first hand experience with each hull.

Dink 02-08-2013 05:46 PM

Ranger and skeeter are WAY too expensive.......check out the Cape Bay

I looked at the Sea Hunt dealer when I was in Gulf Shores last summer. The 22' and 24' have center consoles with a porta potty in them. I thought that was an awesome selling point if you wanted to take your wife or girls out for a day on the water.

Those Cape Bays are soooooo pretty, I wouldn't want to get it dirty!!

rustyb 02-08-2013 07:20 PM

The biggest boat that fits your budget. I fish a 25ft and have no regrets.

Em591991 02-08-2013 07:23 PM

I think I'm going with the triton 24lts pro. Haven't had any neg feedback other then speed. I have kids so I need a big *** boat that rides smooth and handles rough water.

That is what my next will be, but was very impressed with a Trans Cat, we ran in some shallow stuff, some as deep as 6 inches.
