Lake Martin

Anyone know how deep the mail canal and feeder canals are by the sightseeing wharf on the far right side of Martin?

Duck Butter 01-28-2013 01:13 PM

Are you talking about taking a right at the boat ramp and going to the end? The lake side or the canal side?

There is a deep hole (12') on the lake side if that is what you are 'axe'ing?

fishingonewild 01-28-2013 01:47 PM

its around 16 to 20 foot in a few spots at the wharf but that is prolly the only place that wud have some deep spots there cux mostly of the canal is shallow. i tried fishing there a few times and just got a couple of cat fish.

bgizzle 01-28-2013 02:04 PM

I heard that main canal was deep leading straight to wharf. Want to go explore n try n set a few beds

Duck Butter 01-28-2013 03:16 PM

I would like to know how many Colt 45s are sitting on the bottom right there?:rotfl:

Lol. I bet a few!!! Caught 7 all this size on black n chart beetle spin. I wear size 12 shoe. No the saying isn't true!!! Lol. Threw em all back. Water looking better. Caught 2 on same live cypress consecutive casts others being off knees n cover slow retrieve. Others were in same area but not close like them 2. Didnt want any color under cork. Tried white, clear, blue n white, chart curl tail, pumpkin, black n chart jigs etc..., then tried them on beetle and nothing all they wanted them black n chart well really yellow striped split tail on beetle spin. Threw em all back!!! just wanted to run boat n see if I had sac blood in me. First time ever targeting them without shiners.Attachment 45577

Goooh 01-28-2013 06:28 PM

Top Dawg 01-28-2013 06:31 PM

I'm ready to chunk some bugs. Just had a shipment of roadrunners come in today

BassYakR 01-28-2013 06:39 PM

I'm the same way. Exactly the same. But I've vowed to myself since lake Martin is close close and I can fish the good clumps with my 24' I will fish it more for sacs no slime minnows

Maybe... I haven't caught bass except for when I catch them while targeting Sacs.

A limit of sacs is more fun than any other fishing IMO. I've caught Dorado and Tuna, bull reds and trout, but something about pans brings back that most basic joy that you experienced on your first couple of trips ever as a young boy. Hard to replace those triggers to the senses with anything else.

And that's my rant.

Hmmm. And you wanna be my partner? You gotsta think outside the normal box gooh!!! Lol Jk! That's what ima catch the sc tournament winners on. Ima just have y'all there for moral support! Chunkin tops all day with a beetle spin trailer attached to a vmc treble... Dang shouldn't have let the cat out the bag so earky

bgizzle 01-28-2013 07:28 PM

Team bounce dat hen!!! Refuge feed for short

bgizzle 01-28-2013 07:30 PM

They really were fun as small as they were they were aggressive little buggers. Head shaking n making runs or trying to. Definately gonna be fun

Calcasieu river also mermantau river and lacassine bayou when conditions get right. By the looks of all the drainage canals the water is probably still high.

Man you gonna have Lake Martin crowded:rotfl:

Good to see they are biting, that lake seems to be the first place to get going

I used to bass fish until I learned how to fish for white perch, they are crazy fish. Once you think you got em figured out, they stop biting, they are finicky with weather changes...kinda remind me of women

yessir:grinpimp:

a few things I have picked up about fishing for 'crappie' down here is that y'all call em sacaulait, people fish with corks and jigs a LOT, yoyos are not used because of the alligators, if they aren't biting blue and white jigs then they aren't biting, and there is a BIG difference in a keeper fish from north of I-10 and south of I-10. If it bit your jig or shiner south of I-10, its automatically a keeper:rotfl:

and, when you hear a good fishing report you are a week late

Pretty accurate....I love fishing a cork with black and chartruse and clear tubes. Those small sacalait taste good fried up on the bone. :D I try to keep 9" and bigger though.

Top Dawg 01-28-2013 09:07 PM

Lol I was gonna say. We have 2 sizes down here. Whole fryers and slabs

bgizzle 01-28-2013 09:16 PM

Well I ain't from north of I-10 but them fish in that pic aren't keepers to me. I ain't never fished em before but to go n catch em on arts the first time really trying huh they betta hide their beds because all of em bout to get raped.
