Duck hunting has come a long ways...

Since this video was shot. Pretty neat though. Some pretty good shooting and dog handling for 1939. Notice the "camo" lol

SULPHITE 11-01-2012 10:21 AM

puts alot into perspective...lol

The evolution of logistics for duck hunters is amazing. Just think we are able to access areas we never could. We are lucky to have the duck numbers we do considering the amount of hunters along with the availability to hunt areas otherwise untouchable in 1939!!

And yes, I will be wearing a brown sports coat along with a tie opening day. Duck hunting is a genteman's sport. :grinpimp:

With the advent of go-devils and surface drives we sure can go further into the marsh. Use to be you had to walk the marsh or paddle a pirouque.

Top Dawg 11-01-2012 10:40 AM

For all you avid duck hunters. If you have never heard of "Pie" champagne this is a neat article.

According to a co-coworker of mine ducks are color blind so what you wear don't matter. He's about half a bubble off level though.

Wear a blaze orange hat and vest and test the theory.

wfastabend 11-01-2012 12:13 PM

I work for the lodge in the article. Lacassane is truly a very traditional lodge. A ton of history is there.

Big Tee 11-01-2012 12:25 PM

You don't know how many time I have watch this one and other films like it. I grew up on Avery Island and would not trade it for the world. Yea them old Mcilhenny boy sure dressed funny for hunting they still do. My dad ran there duck camp for years !!!! I grew learning how to shoot back up hunting with them and became a very good shot at a young age. Thanks for the post kinda reminds me of running around that place as a kid although I am not that old (product of the early 70's ) it is still the same as it was back then

X2!!!!!

swamp snorkler 11-02-2012 07:26 AM

this is going to be funny, papershell shot gun shells to fellas (that may be hard to find), and no camo dipped automatic shot guns either.

SULPHITE 11-02-2012 07:33 AM

Crack barrel 16 gauge

Shawn Braquet 11-02-2012 07:42 AM

I have an old crack barrel 20 ga that would be perfect for this "vintage" hunt. I'll bring the dog and whistle but have to carve and paint some dekes first.

swamp snorkler 11-02-2012 07:44 AM

My dad has a Winchester Model 12 12 gauge, my Uncle has my PawPaws Model 12 16 gauge.

Both guns are from that Era

Top Dawg 11-02-2012 07:48 AM

I got some old hard plastic decoys

Lake Chuck Duck 11-02-2012 07:52 AM

Man I got the brown corduroy sports coat with the leather patches on the elbows. Let me get in on this! lmao

I like how that guy on the video was straight clownin that pool do! lol

DUCKGOGETTER 11-02-2012 08:35 AM

This is gonna be funny!!! Can ya'll imagine the looks at the store that morning when we walk in all gentlemen up, and tell them we're going duck hunting. Lol!!!!!!!!!!!

simplepeddler 11-02-2012 09:59 AM

Will you guys have 'servant" pushing you around and setting out your decoys..........
I think every duck hunter should have a "hunt boy"

Just came across this interesting thread! Would be great to have a classic "Oak Grove" sit down dinner the night before; in dress attire. I'll see if i can possibly get my hunting partner's camp for a night...it will be a weekday night however. I could hunt 4 sports and sleep 7. Chris, I'll try to make this happen...I'll pm ya to see what we can come up with.
