Yeah.. They should be !! I paid $9 for 4AA battery's , I would not want to even guess what these would cost.
But.... I may gain a MPH ! :D.

sniper3726 10-16-2012 10:11 PM

Optimas are actually AGM battery's "Absorbed Glass Mat" Which Typically are 10 to 15x more vibration resistant than other battery's
I have Optimas now BUT only had them for two years, so I can not yet say they are the best.
I will say that if everyone put a Good onboard charger (that is designed for the type battery you have) 90 percent of "battery" problems would go away. I know this for
experience.

bgizzle 10-16-2012 10:14 PM

What kind of Onboard charger you run on them Optimas?

bgizzle 10-16-2012 10:19 PM

Anyone found out who makes these big mama's? No info on web

Ding!
That is correct and I learned the hard way as well!!
I have interstate batts in my boat now but that's only cause they put em in when building it, next will be AGMs again

Jadams 10-16-2012 10:25 PM

Check the reserve capacity minutes on optima vs conventional battery only 60 to 75 percent capacity as big mamma only advantage spill proof and cost twice the price

DA COVE 10-16-2012 10:41 PM

Want'a say they're made near Shreveport. I'm only about 5500 miles from mine. If I were home, I would look and see if there'S any info.

sniper3726 10-16-2012 10:55 PM

I have a Bass Pro XPS I series charger , it has settings you can change for all type batteries .
AGM s do typically have less reserve and are more expensive, you are correct . But there are other advantages , like weight savings , which was important to me. Also extreme discharge will not hurt an AGM like it will a wet lead acid battery.

Big Momma was made in Shreveport at one time at the Exide Technologies Plant
EXIDE TECHNOLOGIES, 6901 WESTPORT AVE. SHREVEPORT, LA
Now I don't know who was marketing the battery or if they use a different mfg now.

The battery distributor who we bought from sold batteries from this plant and all they did was change tags on the them for the retail client.
We used the batteries for our equipment only and the batteries would have different tags I guess depending on what they had instock.

The Big Momma (trolling battery) and Red Hot Momma (was cranking battery) looked like an Exide Battery except I paid $20 less for the equivalent battery at Academy or Wal-mart.
They lasted about 3 years and for the price I couldn't complain.

If anyone is thinking of using an onboard charger [for 2 batteries] I have a brand new [still in the box] Duel Pro for sale and just reduced the price.

Just plug it in and the batteries will be ready for your next fishing trip.

SuperDave 10-17-2012 07:50 PM

yall might wanna check out XS Power. I'm thinking about getting one of there D series batteries to replace the two batteries in my truck.

By the way you can get these batteries at a much cheaper cost than the MSRP on the site. The battery I was looking at is a D2700 which retails for 499, but I talked to a guy at XS who put me on his retailer and I can get the battery for 339 shipped to my door with the lug kit. yeah still expensive but from what I've read and who I've talked to they seem to be the cats meow.
