No Respect to Fisherman any more

On Big Lake
Its is unreal that either people have zero knowledge of how to fish or just that stupid to understand what to do behind the wheel of a boat

Yesterday I managed to stay away from all boats and stayed to myself and caught fish

Today tried but..........

I can't understand what makes people click ?? If you see a guy in open water on anchor fishing..(only boat with in miles)..... Just because its a straight line from channel to weirs ....do you run wide open 250ft from that only boat in the water ?????? Not one but Two boats killed my only good bite I got on

2nd if you see a boat going to a spot that's way in front of you!! Do you go full throttle and run in front of them??

Happened today...I'm going to a spot on Monkey island...no boats around going about 25mph about a 75yards from spot when out of no where a boat come from behind me and got right in front and drove big motor on spot!!

Next I'm fishing towards a point and about 15ft from it casting at it...when a boat drives strait up to the point and runs up (over reef area) Chunks anchor and live cut mullet went flying (I had a million bucks they never caught a trout in there life)

Really are people that disrespectful or just plain Stupid

Last time I went threw west cove I thought they had run a new ship channel with bouy markers...

But soon found out it was pop n corks and live shrimp slinging .....

Some people honestly do not know better. I stopped 3 kids in their dads boat in Turner's last year and told them they were being inconsiderate and they had no clue what they were doing was inconsiderate. They ran wide open thru a bunch of boats and everyone was throwing their arms up in the air after they went by, but I stopped them and let them know. I like to think that they learned a lesson that day, but who knows. You should really let these people know, maybe they just don't know any better.

That being said, last time we were at Cyp Point 2 boats came wide open at us and stopped and threw down the trolling motor 50 yards away and I could cast across their lines:shaking:. Tried to be nice and ask them why they were doing what they were doing, but they were all old fellas and pretty mouthy as well. We just sat and cussed each other for 5 minutes:rotfl: Ain't worth the hassle sometimes

It's sad to say that's how people are. It's just as bad hunting on public land. People have zero respect for others

Spunt Drag 09-03-2012 05:41 PM

Either follow em and beat the **** out of em, or shut the **** about it. Done.

Top Dawg 09-03-2012 05:42 PM

I think it's worse hunting on public land. Because they have noise makers and guns! And about a case of 3-1/2" shells to skybust with!

I think it's worse hunting public, people have much more sense of entitlement. "This is MY spot" type mentality.

jcmaricle75 09-03-2012 05:51 PM

That happened to us all day today. The minute you set the hook people were coming around us. We caught eight fish total. I was even hung up once and that caused people to come over. It sucks

"W" 09-03-2012 05:52 PM

I did not even lose my cool today..... Just shook my head and went find more fish

Anchored in wide open water with no boats around and get run over just floors me

Pole_benda 09-03-2012 05:59 PM

Yesterday had people running away from us. And then you could tell the instant someone spotted us because the flipped a half figure 8 came up on us. One boat stayed outside of a 100yds but others came within 50, one guy even 25. Craziness I tell ya!!!! If I didn't have a friend in the boat that wanted a few trout we would have been in the marsh hiding from people, sightfishing reds

"W" 09-03-2012 06:14 PM

People can say what they want Big Lake is loaded with Morons

Jadams 09-03-2012 06:15 PM

That is why I rather fish for redfish.....trout fisherman are nuts. Does not matter what part of that state the same thing happens.

Now that we are discussing this, I would like to know your opinions.

1. If I am entering Turners and there are boats anchored throughout the bay, is it discourteous to stay on plane?

2. If I am entering Turners and a fisherman is running toward me and stops to anchor, is it discourteous to stay on plane?

I honestly want to know how to navigate around others en route to my spots Turners is awefullully big to troll across.

yigodiver 09-03-2012 07:30 PM

I cut really close yesterday to a boat after spotting something unusual, several bikinis sitting on the bow as I got closer, my wife said there are 5 girls on that boat with no man, well I got busted!!!!!! Thats when I told her we need Blackjack to make me look like a real fisherman!!!!

Yes, Big Lake has it's share.. Last weekend in July there was a blue and white boat w/ merc. running around. Looked like he was trying to get coodinates by running around every one that was fishing.. and i do mean around, within 200 ft. The next weekend only about 2 out of 5 boats had or were using running lights @ 520 am. then on that same day a frequent user of this sight motored up 200 ft. to mt port side heading to the same spot I was headed to, which was 150 ft in front of me. I continued my course with trolling motor and was able to cut him off. But with all that said, nothing will change until they get a hole stomped in their ###.. Oh Yea, Toledo Bend is even worse!! = Big Lake X10. but anyway.. still better than being @ work..

Turners issue: I look for widest opening between boats and stay on plane trying to keep even distance among boats. I dont think i will idle 1 to 2 miles thru boats. Im not gonna stop by you and fish there either. Sorry in advance

Make it rain with fritos, trim motor up, leave wake to mess up fish and CHUNK UP DA DEUCE......1 bag will last all day.....good luck vatos......cant find me........never get potlicked....

SpeckWrangler 09-03-2012 09:16 PM

i always try to be courteous to other fisherman when on the water. if i do something it is not on purpose. I only have a few spots that i like to fish on the lake and its tough when a guy blows through you while on fish. it seems like as soon as you catch one trout the whole lake is on you.

we would stop and fish and everytime we would be in a spot for more than 5 min boats would pull up close enough to have a conversation with them.

as a younger guy one thing i wish there was on this site is why you fish the water you do. spots are useless but knowing how to identify spots based on various conditions and factors would be useful in speeding the learning curve.

I'm not sure what to think here...I sure was figuring a football field was enough buffer when passing by another boat...so what is the buffer you should give?

It's never enough distance to some people. And if I am a hundred yards from you, that's good enough for me.

Gerald 09-03-2012 11:43 PM

I alway try to give other boats that are fishing 200 to 300 yards distance while passing them.

In Turners Bay area sometimes there is no way to keep away from other boats. This is why I normally only fish during the week. If I can see where I can be 100 yard from other boats....I stay on plane.

I was freshwater fishing in an area where there were a dozen boats catching Sacks on anchor. We were a 1/4 mile from the end of the open water and were spreadout so that we blocked most of the waterway.

A speed boat pulling a skier was headed towards us. I am thinking they will surely make a u-turn before getting much closer. Nope. They shot through a 100 foot gap between boats. Then they had very little room to go anywhere so they made a u-turn and drove back between the same boats.

One guy wrote down the boat number, and I got the number and called it in. I always wonder if anything was done to this guy. This was way before CELL phone with cameras.

Screw all the cry babies I am gonna slow down and trim my motor to throw biggest wave possible then take pics of them and their boat and turn them in when they want to try something....... get a grip, its always the same people crying on here about the same crap and they never stop to think that we all deal with this. Do something about it, find something else to do or just shut up and get a freaking life

I believe the wished for buffer zone would be enough distance for running wake to become non existent upon arrival of fishing hole!

TRUE words from YAK Fisherman who spans 50ft per day:rolleyes:

CAMP CANARD 09-04-2012 11:13 AM

Guide Boat cut our drift off at old Steam engine Sunday. Pulled in hot about 100 yards in front of us. They picked up a few dinks, and then hauled azz. We continued our drift and got the 3 pounders we were looking for.

Don't know who it was, but at first thought it was Chicken in his new ride.

Moral of the story.....disrespectful guide or Pilgrim like Honey Badger. Take what he wants when he wants it !!

I WILL REMEMBER THAT BOAT !!!!!

2ndamendment 09-04-2012 11:27 AM

Monday's trip experience......fishing channel marker on North bound side of ship channel. My boat positioned between marker and bank. Two older gentlemen approaching in mid size aluminum boat heading North passed us on plane at roughly 20 to 25 yards. The ship channel is wide and at the time of passing no other boats were around . So these two individuals did have a choice but chose to pass extremely close. Time forward....fishing a bank area w/trolling motor down and the bow of my boat pointed East down the bank. These same two older gentlemen come plowing towards the same bank and drop their trolling motor roughly 40 yards off the bow of my boat. They commence to heading East down the same bank.
Immediately, thoughts were running around my head but a cooler adult head had to prevail. Just picked up and moved on. And yes visions of figure 8's were momentarily considered but being close to the bank scratched that idea.

inchspinner 09-04-2012 11:30 AM

You pull up to them and ask "what brings you to this exact location in this body of water" and see what kind of response you get.......more than likely there gonna say "looks like a good spot".....

barbarian 09-04-2012 12:37 PM

Just politely drop the big motor and run right in front of their bow and do the same thing. You don't have to say a word. Some people only get it when they are on the recieving end.

That is what we've heard, but I would rather see their reactions when I simply just reverse the situation. Happens bank fishing in the bass world all the time. Believe or not some people get upset - simply mind blowing. :work:

This is also how I think about it. I give more room when I'm making a bigger wake. I'll often only leave 50 yards in an aluminum boat doing 15 mph cause the wake won't bounce 'em around. The same distance is rude in a 20-24' fiberglass boat running at 35 mph.

DA COVE 09-04-2012 04:14 PM

rethink it maybe!

A 12- 18" wake off off any boat, reguardless of size has the same affect. That being said, the aluminum running 15 mph will probably push a bigger wake than the 20 something running 35-40. Plus the actual disturbance under the water is only 50 yds. , well within the area that is targeted.. guess that's not on your calculator...

Crawdaddct 09-04-2012 04:17 PM

I would rather people just stay om plane. Most of them don't understand slowing down a little makes your wake worse. Either idle by with motor in the full down position or fly by and get it over with.
