Should I pull the trigger
Guys think I should buy this bike...I just need something to get me to the blind and possibly a day of riding...nothing intense...I don't need a mud buggy etc...just get me through a little mud in the marsh. I can get it for a decent price
1996 POLARIS 500 SPORTSMAN 4X4 http://i678.photobucket.com/albums/v...3/IMG_0074.jpg http://i678.photobucket.com/albums/v...3/IMG_0076.jpg http://i678.photobucket.com/albums/v...3/IMG_0079.jpg http://i678.photobucket.com/albums/v...3/IMG_0085.jpg |
Its your money but I personally wouldn't buy anything that says Polaris. Plus its 13 years old.

Polaris + 13 yrs old = BAD IDEA
Stick with a honda ;) Ours is a 03' model LOVE IT...Love the ITP mudlites on it though.. Are those stock tires or different? Cant really tell...Looks like different..But if not (if they are stock) get some different tires..Me and a buddy got their honda 350 stuck the other day with stock tires, which mine would have plowed thru the hole we was stuck in. Good luck with it if you get one. |
You cannot go wrong with a HONDA four wheeler....
find me a 4x4 450 or above in that condition for less than 2,000...I will take her!!
Man I highly advise you NOT to get a Poolaris. My dad, brother, uncle and I each had one and all of them were problems.

I wouldnt buy a Polaris sticker if it cost 1 cent
The only thing I would buy polaris are the Rangers. They are awesome but I had a 95 polaris trail boss and had tons of trouble. You can get a 400 honda foreman or 450 yamaha big bear around 10 years old for $2000. i would keep looking.
That old 300 that fool has pictures of will out pull and outlast any polaris made.
polaris=junk
A friend of mine has his own ATV repair shop in Broussard and he refuses to work on poolarises because to fix anything on them you need a torch, a welding machine and a VERY big hammer. :work:
If your thinking about buying it make sure the cv shafts are good they are the first thing that goes out and are very expensive to replace. Other than that if the price is right pull the trigger.

that baby is a BEAST in that mud  Keep em garage kept, they'll last forever |
The pooyiiii 500 has some overheating problems I would def. let it run a while to make sure the fan kicks on and bike stays cool. Also if the front wheel drive goes out it cost a fortune to fix, all electric controlled. Just my 2 cents.

POLARIS 4 Wheeler -Junk:(
POLARIS Ranger- Awesome:) |

Yea my bike was a HUGE money pit but it was one bad bike.
I had the same bike and it had some issues,I also had a 2006 Honda Rancher 4x4 and it was a much better bike.I noticed you said something about price,I sold my 2006 Rancher for $2200 and there was nothing wrong with it.Since then I have seen many Ranchers around that price and you cant go wrong with a Honda!

Not at all. I use mine as a battering ram/trail cleaner. I built a front bumper out of 2" square tubing. Its front heavy, but it still floats across the pond. Got 28" swamplites, jet kit, warn 3000# winch, trail lights. And of course a saltycajun.com sticker on the side !!!
I had an 03 Foreman 450. When I first bought it I basically made a submarine out of it. I had milky white oil on at least 5 occassions and never had any problems with it. On the old lease I had I would pull discs to make nearlly 20 food plots every year and then tie a 4x4 to the front bumper and pull a 7 foot long laminated beam with spikes in it to clear out thickets to make new shooting lanes. Never once had an issue with it. Could pull 18 bags of corn on an old heavy trailer up hill with 2 adults on the bike uphill like it wasnt there. They are beasts. If you can find a 450 in good shape get it.
Lol. That's a tank not a 450
I regret getting rid of mine, it's by far the best bike I've ever had.
I will get in on the recommending of a HONDA FOREMAN. I own a stock 03' 450 Foreman. To date not one part replaced. Only changed fluids.
I got the 500. Got it for a good price. And just added extras as needed
