Did Anyone just see the news?!?!? That group of idiots trying to shut it down. Threatening to have a state wide march if the mayor gives the key over because Jean lafitte had slaves?!? When will it stop. People we need to make a stand to quiet these radicals down. It's making me sick!!

I say we just load the whole bunch of them on that ship and send it east and hope it don't arrive anywhere.

Didn't catch where they were from. But I'm assuming they will calltheir followers from everywhere and they will show up in herds. And most of their travel expenses will prolly be on our dime being they don't have jobs!!

No one complains about all of "their" festivals. Guess they are jealous that the white trash has their own festival. They wanna play the race card but they are the most racist people on the face of the earth and they wonder why they are labeled? Makes me so mad!

I thought race was not a issue on pirate ships. I'd be willing to bet jean lafittes crew was whites only. The last thing I ever connected with contraband days was slavery.

I asked "A guy" at work his view on this and his thoughts were..... "man them peoples crazy, they gonna be out their by themself as far as I am concerned" he said he didn't care who was on that boat nor was he concerned about the trash of any color that was gonna be out there.

In January 1813 they received their first prize, a Spanish Brigantine loaded with 77 slaves. Sale of the slaves and additional cargo generated $18,000 in profits and the brothers turned the captured ship into another privateer, named Dorada. Within weeks, Dorada captured a schooner loaded with over $9,000 in goods. The captured schooner was not considered a good fit for privateering, so after unloading its cargo the Lafittes gave the ship back to its former captain and crew.[16] The Lafittes gained a reputation for treating captive crew members well, and often gave the ships back to their original crew.[17]

This retrospect is nothing new. Every year this group or some other brings up the relation to slavery. Contraband Days festivities have not faultered one time for these people.
