Daleys Hunt and Fish in Port Arthur carries them in store and takes orders for customs

You need to go put a Classic Med/Light, Latis Stik, and Devil Stik in your hands to see wich one best suits you before you pull tha trigger

SULPHITE 04-02-2012 01:08 PM

i have one good rod

Capt.B 04-02-2012 01:09 PM

Check out the Texas Rod Works link on my signature....Have a couple of rods being built for me now.....and the price for the general public is very reasonable for a custom rod....contact David Cunningham....Tell him Brent sent you!!

Let me know when you wanna go i been needing to get down there we can make a day out of it

noodle creek 04-02-2012 01:12 PM

They're awesome until they break

mikedatiger 04-02-2012 01:13 PM

The Devil Stik is by far and away the best plastics rod I have ever owned. Light, Light, Light, Light, Light and very sensitive. Did I say Light?? I have other custom rods, but weight is definitely noticeable after throwing the Laguna for a while. I just have a Citica on mine right now, but Bruno's rod with a Core is ridiculously light.

Bruno is the guy to talk to as I believe he is now on their pro staff.

Only con I can think of is the price.

SaltyShaw 04-02-2012 01:19 PM

Just to be fair, Chuck (charlies) did team up with another rod builder to build some semi-custom rods for TTF. They are great rods and I believe they go for around $250, if TTF has anymore. I believe from talking with Tal they were trying out a run of em'.

I still have my Charlies and fish with it each trip, but the Laguna is definitely lighter and, it feels to me anyway, it's more sensitive. Bruno is having a Laguna topwater rod made and I am interested in trying it out before I get another one.

I held the laguna and loved it... IMO if i am gonna drop 3 bones its gonna be on a rod with warranty. With my luck that laguna wouldnt last 3 months and i would be out 3 bones.... but you get what you pay for.

IDK. let us know how that laguna pans out. PS stay away from OB... he should be a damn sales rep. dude has me buying baits i dont even want when i leave his store.

I got no dog in the fight, but I think two that he broke were from his own doing.

He broke two of my rods in one trip, including my favorite M/L Skeleton and an unbreakable BillyStix :work:

BTW, Speckdaddy, Castaway is under new ownership and they had a new Skeleton at the Houston show that was really nice. IMO, for the money ($169 I think) they are hard to beat.

You n i talked about castaway before i loved there rods. But: i swear their quality n craftsmanship have gone out the window. The "new" rods ive tried out n played with are absolute trash. Def not like their older makes n models. I hope their new line is better. I still have older castaways that id never sell. Great rods

SaltERedneck 04-02-2012 01:35 PM

Before you go and make that decision

I dont know whats going on but shimamo cumaras are on sale at Basstackledepot.com, this is the second site i have seen with them for sale. thats a ridiculous steal.

Makes me wonder if shimano is about to release something NEW... any thoughts on this??

or they going to the cheap route like they are doing with all their reels. Hard to find quality rod n reels without breaking the bank these days.

SaltERedneck 04-02-2012 01:43 PM

just wondering bc this same situation happened right before ICAST and the new series shimanos came out. frankly that price is a steal and i am about to scoop one up. the local stores didnt catch on to this trend and i dont see em dropping price like this anyways.

SaltyShaw 04-02-2012 01:47 PM

Cumara is one of their higher end rods certainly they won't do away with it, maybe redesign it to make it better

cbruno 04-02-2012 02:18 PM

Speckdaddy pm me you info and I will get with you on the laguna's. Yes I have broken them, however they got broke is a long story for when we talk. But I will tell you this Sarge at laguna is a stand up guy, I can promise you he will make it right. The others are correct there is I think a 75$ return fee. And Shaw is correct shamino is over the counter, however they have the only rod company in that price range with over the counter returns on them. I do know that Daleys in Port Arthur has an over the counter on store models, I am not sure about the custom order. I do know Capt. Adam Jaynes and Capt. ****ie Colburn ( Sabine ) have been fishing them longer than I have and have had no problems with them breaking. Adam has told me he has slung 7&8 lb reds with his. I can't honestly say what the biggest red I have slung in the boat with mine, but I have slung a few that after I did I was like, maybe I should have got the net.

With all of this being said, I have fished laguna's since Aug of last year and I will tell you this I have not found another rod out there that beats them, to me the shimanos are light but you do not get the selection of actions in the shimanos. As Micah said the devil stick was by far and away the very best plastics rod I have ever put in my hands, until this weekend when I had been telling myself to throw the Classic med light. Well all I will say is man what have i been missing. For you waders out there they have a 6'2' light texas wader 2 that is the SH**.

Speckdaddy if you get a chance you should come out the the CCA seminar tomorrow at 6:00 pm at the prien park. Sarge from laguna will be there talking about what different actions of rods to use for different presentations and advantages and disadvantages things like that. I think Sarge is bringing some rods, and I will have some of mine rigged with baits so that if you want to walk outside and throw and get the feel of them you can. But if can't make it by maybe we can hook up another time and I will be more than happy to put them in your hands. But be warned after you buy one you will not put it down.

cbruno 04-02-2012 02:20 PM

Sorry about that it should have been Capt. ****ie Colburn. Don't know why the **** cam up.

Funny you say. My tip broke of mysteriously couple months back.
I thought mine was light until I bought a Waterloo.
I'll never buy another Laguna. Customer support is terrible as well.

cbruno 04-02-2012 02:24 PM

Just one more thing Speckdaddy, That's what happened with Chris Gaspard owener of the Tackle Box, he fished mine and I had to almost beat him with his to get mine back.

SaltyShaw 04-02-2012 02:30 PM

No doubt they are fine rods still waiting to GET mine, I agree with Bruno the cumulus is nice but you have one action to chose from and it kinda sucks I use mine for tops and suspended baits
Wanting a Laguna for plastics

cbruno 04-02-2012 02:30 PM

Camp Carnard, if you don't mind would you pm me the details about that laguna? Like Micah said I just got added to the pro staff at laguna, however I do know that Sarge is and always has been a stand up guy and the customer service and personable service is one of the things that I have not found with other rod companies.

or if you would like you can give me a call at 361-449-5271 or email chrisb.@geaux-outdoors.com

Waterloo is a excellent rod I have had a few and absolutely love them but have broken 4, they are just as fragile and sensitive as a Laguna but not near as light as a Laguna I promise you that

inchspinner 04-02-2012 02:46 PM

What do those rods run pricewise

noodle creek 04-02-2012 02:53 PM

They are definitely nice rods, but like bosshog said I broke two of them, both close to the tip. One casting a corky devil, and I didn't knick the rod previous to that. The other setting the hook on a two pound fish.

mikedatiger 04-02-2012 02:53 PM

The one made for Daley's is $199. Devil Stik runs $325.

Camp Canard, if the email fails again please pm me with what happened with that laguna. I do not know what I can do about other than speak with Sarge about as he will be in Lake Charles for the CCA seminar and he and I plan on fishing Wed.. I do know that Sarge wants to hear any feedback, rather it be positive or negative. But as I stated Sarge stands behind his products.
