Country Boy Jr. and his big gobbler

Decided to take my son hunting instead of fishing and boy did it pay off, this is his first turkey and we had to do a lot of walking, seen lots of gobblers but could not get them to come to our decoy until today at 1:30 , when it showed itself I could tell my son was getting nervous and so was I, I told him to shoot when it got in the open and he dropped it then he let out a big yell, he was very excited and so was I, this is a hunt I will never forget. The gobbler had a 9 1/2 inch beard and almost 1 3/4 spurs but not sure on the weight, I would guess about 23 to 25 lbs.

this one never gobbled at all, a hen came by then left so we waited about ten minutes thinking nothing was around or coming so poked my head out and noticed it was 40 yards away and puffed up, I said oh **** and backed up real slow and told my son it was right there and coming fast

Have you looked into one of the DIY kits? I bought one for my fall bird from last year and it is fairly easy to do.

Last spring I took my first bird and decided to have a full mount done. I dropped it off in early May and it still isn't done. It seems that taxidermist like to take their sweet time and when the deer get dropped off in the fall, they take precedence over anything else in the shop.

Finfeatherfur 03-27-2012 04:31 PM

OMG - what an awesome bird!!! Congrats to you and him for making memories!!!

dbroken64 03-27-2012 07:55 PM

taught about doing it myself but did not want to take a chance of messing up his first bird, maybe the next one I will try.
