Driveway material

I am looking for some type of aggregate to put down for a drive at Toledo Bend but I want somthing grass will grow over and cover so when I cut the yrd I don't pick it up and throw it through a window. I have seen people use somethin that is black like crushed asphalt but I am not sure what it is for sure..... I am also looking for someone in S. Toledo Bend area to buy from since house is by the dam on TX side. Thanks for any info.

adamsfence 03-15-2012 10:53 AM

la ash in sulphur may have something you can use they have some fine stuff 337-625-4260 i get the rocks from them alot cheaper than limestone and packs better

CDW 03-15-2012 02:44 PM

I think what you are talking about is bottom ash. It packs ok but will track in your house.

weedeater 03-15-2012 02:47 PM

I need somthin crushed that will pack but will also allow grass to cover, do yall know if there is a crushed limestone or anything like that for a decent price, is getting crushed asphalt possible or would it not work well

Remind me tomorrow and I'll take a picture of my driveway, its crushed concrete. Packed hard as a rock. Think I paid around $450 for a 20 yard truck hauled to Holmwood.

Don't think grass will grow under this though.

jchief 03-15-2012 11:16 PM

It has some fairly big pieces of concrete in it. Would probably throe it with a mower. Got some.in front of my boat shed and it works great.

Crushed concrete...

swamp snorkler 03-16-2012 12:16 PM

We use some big rocks about softball size in our yard then cover that with 6/10. It packs as hard as a $60 jawbreaker. Track cranes and cherry pickers and it holds up really well.

However, grass will not grow over it. IDK why you want more grass to cut in the first place though.

That's what mine did. Packed it and then the rain came....hard as a rock now.

adamsfence 03-16-2012 12:37 PM

this aint limestone it is something else alot cheaper than limestone....i think it is called bottom ash...they also call it poor man concrete. they will come form it up and pack it with a packer and it sets up like concrete.

Yup ive heard of it before. Ya gots my number adam if u need any material holla

adamsfence 03-16-2012 12:41 PM

that picture was from the delivery today. i had already ordered it. i will call for the next load for sure after these sink in the mud. lol

weedeater 03-16-2012 12:51 PM

that picture looks like what I want. The reason I want grass to grow through it is its at the lake house that just gets cut once a month or so and I dont want to have worry of slinging it with mower or having to spray it with poison.

weedeater 03-16-2012 12:53 PM

adamsfence, how big of a load was that and how far did it go?

don't know yet i put the number in one of my earlier post on this thread its normally around 400 to 500 delivered to oakdale so probly cheaper than that in yalls area..... that is 14 tons one load will cover my whole driveway and its about 150' and pretty thick.....call her up she will tell you how much they don't bill you till like 2 weeks later.

Ok I am looking for driveway material again but unfortunately the place in leesville don't have and or won't deliver so if anyone up towards Toledo has names or numbers please help ....thanks

saute86 08-28-2012 09:18 AM

I used it at the MX track. Yes it sucks with the tracking of black sand. After the grass grew it was great. I would recommend it over the long run.

Duck Butter 08-28-2012 09:25 AM

Not to hijack but we have 2 loads of fill dirt in Breaux Bridge that has been in my way for 2 years now, and have tried to give it away about 14 times and every time someone is going to come get it, i never hear back from them:smokin: If anyone needs fill dirt contact me, please please come get it.
