STOP starting fights

In the open area. Negative comments on reports will not be allowed PERIOD. Four infractions have been given so far tonight and one long time member was banned. Enough is enough, people are not going to post on here if they are going to get thrown under the bus like they have been for the last two weeks. I'm not having it.....

I want to thank those of you that reported these incidents tonight, I was at a basketball game with my son or I would have done something sooner.

If you want to fight do it in the premium section.

Exactly, my time is more valuable than this, there are times when I want to pull the plug on the entire site and wash my hands of it, this is one of those days. I was at my son's game when I started seeing emails about the site going into meltdown.

ckinchen 03-09-2012 11:58 PM

While I am at it, the bashig of our neighbors to the West in the great state of Texas is getting also out of hand.

Casey,

This can be a good site if we all keep the original mission - a place to share success and have fun with our experiences in wonderful Louisiana is kept in mind. Most of the folks on here want just that, and enjoy the site for the reports and info shared while poking a little fun at one another on occassion. Just want to thank you for keeping this site up and running. I enjoy it! So, don't let the actions of a few ruin the success of the site for you. Thanks for keeping this thing going!

Heaven forbid someone post a detailed report with gps.coords, because everyone will get bent out of shape. Otherwise this is a good site with good people, ive been posting.less due to the flaming and bashing. Its the internet guys, no one needs to try and flex their e-muscles.

ckinchen 03-10-2012 09:15 AM

I posted this on another thread but I beleive it is worth re-posting...

I need you guys posting reports, this is a fishing/hunting site. Please keep the reports coming, if someone bashes your report or questions you about your fish please report the post in the upper right hand corner of the post (triangle) and that person will receive an immediate infraction and possibly be banned. We will also delete any negativity on a report post. We have to keep the fishing and hunting reports clean. I have threatened this before but if people can't act right we will do what other sites have done and treat the reports section like the classified section and keep it open only to the original poster. Maybe that is the right solution anyway.

Also remember guys you get $30 SC cash for a report and picture and I plan to auction off Costa’s, rods and LSU tickets this year just to name a few items.

Jrchip1 03-10-2012 09:18 AM

We've all seen more than one Web Site get messed up with bickering, and we could all name a few that have tanked because of borderline bullies that pounce on everything/everyone. About Six months ago when I first happened on Saltycajun, what struck me immediately was the positive remarks and helpful attitude of some of the more knowledgeable members (experienced fisherman). What may start out as a humorous remark, often makes someone offended, and off it goes. Hope it doesn't happen here.

When you post them this year you have my word that I will not put up with anyone bashing the report. If it happens report it and myself or the mods will take care of it. This year is going to be different.

Thank you for your comments, we have some very knowledgeable fishermen and hunters on this site. Like you I do not want to see it become what all of the others sites have become.

ckinchen 03-10-2012 09:31 AM

So guys is the answer to just make reports open to the orginal poster only like the classified section? You still will get your $30 SC cash but people will not be able to make comments. Thoughts?

No way, that is no good IMO ....honestly I think it's all about judgement and knowing who u r messin/ poking fun at. I will poke fun at say, W or Micah because I know them n they know my sence of humor but I won't say the same thing to a new guy or someone I don't know because they don't know me ...

I think alot of times a good discussion comes from the comments on the reports. We as members just need to police ourselves better to not let a little joke or something get out of hand and start a fight on a report. I think that cutting off comments should be the last resort. Is there any way to make it where certain people cant comment on a report? Like say you get an infraction 2 times for bashing or starting a fight just remove their privileges from commenting in the reports section for a month or something

I have never seen you go after a new guy or someone that you do not know which I appreciate. That being said when the new guy sees you guys going back and forth in reports the new guy might avoid positing a report so he isn't treated the same way. Those long W threads in the reports section hurt the site from a report encouragement perspective.

I do not want to kill the ability for people to reply to reports, I think that would also hurt the site but we can't keep going in the direction that we are going.

This site has been up and down and bought and sold a few times since it's inception,
the same problems have been here since the start.
I have over the last 18 months asked a few guides and marinas to advertize and / or post on the site .But when they came here to look around, i got a Thanks but no thanks from all of them. The word i got from ALL OF THEM was . Most post turn into a joke ,a pissing match or some ones ego trip. In their opinion it would be a waste of their time.
I couldn't refute anything they said because it was true.
Hopefully things can change and the site can keep growing.

This is the part that our Problem Children don't get. Yes we are all adults here and should be able to police ourselves but time and time again certain individuals have proven they not have this ability.

This site is more stable from an ownership perspective right now than it ever has been in the past so that is a non issue. Also more thought (and money) goes back into this site now than it ever has before. I disagree with your up and down comment at least under my leadership but you can have your opinion. My consistency with infractions and decsions has been just that, consistent. Keep in mind I run three other businesses this being the smallest so I do not have all day to babysit people on here. I get no less than 20 PM's a day and I answer all of them no matter how inmaterial they may in fact be.

This is not a thread where I want to see people rant about the history of the site, that is the past. I want suggestions and I want to see people post reports, that's it.

Also if these "people" do not want to advertise with us or guides do not want to post that does not bother me. We grew at an 80% pace last year and we are adding 200+ members per month. We will pass Rodnreel.com as the number 2 site in the state later this year. SaltyCajun is far from "broken" but can be improved. If you think it is doom and gloom on here then you are very mistaken.

This is a great site that has helped alot of people I just want to see it get even better.

I agree also

ckinchen 03-10-2012 10:33 AM

I agree guys I want to keep the reports open but to do that I need your help as follows:

1) If you someone bash a report please report it so we can stop it and take action.

2) Post your own reports, we do not get enough reports on the site. If the number of reports does not pick up I can only assume it is due to our policy on reports so I will have to make a change to try and encourage more reports. Remember it is worth $30 SC cash towards free items.

3) Keep the fighting and insults down in the premium area, the open area is intended to be a fishing/hunting site.

Wag 03-10-2012 10:42 AM

I really enjoy the fishing reports especially those of Big Lake, because I can't make it down there as much and like to keep up with the action, however, I do more freshwater fishing since I live on Black River Lake, so I will start to post some reports from over here soon.

Do you have a moderating team on this site? One person cannot police this big of a site; way to much work. Perhaps have 2 mods per section that are logged on most of the day. Have an area for discussion that only mods have access to. Quick pulling of post and temp. baning of poster might help alleviate future problems...

We have 3 plus me and we are about to add a 4th that will be announced on Monday. Our new members are up 80% while we only added one mod last year. I agree we need more folks involved.

Most folks would like to comment on a report by saying "nice Mess" or something like "you catch em on top?". I don't think comments on posts should be prohibited but bashing or negativity should not be tolerated. It's real simple, if you don't have something positive to say, just don't say anything.

Mcjaredsandwich hit the nail on the head. A few days ago Evis posted up a report with gps cords and people went nuts. They acted like those cords came off of their personal gps. The man caught a nice mess and was gracious enough to share his spot. He was trying to help and folks gave him hell for it. I really couldn't believe the reaction of some of the folks on here. If we had more folks like Evis instead of those that black out every telephone pole in the background we might have a better site. Sure, nobody is entitled to your gps cords or your spot and if you want to keep that a secret it's all good, but what good does a report do if you don't provide any info that is of any value.

DannyI 03-10-2012 11:32 AM

Great Site

This site offers a tremendous amount of information on fishing, hunting, equipment, and general discussion that we as sportsmen enoy. Enjoy the threads as they are, don't alter for a few that bring trouble, your mods can take care of them. Good work fella's!

Jedi Lure Tricks 03-10-2012 11:47 AM

i agree 1000% and i applaud Casey and the mods for working aggressivly to move this site onward and upward in a positive direction! :work:

IMO it would be a shame if we couldn't comment on reports, i really enjoy the conversations that evolve from the info the reports contain.

we can keep it simple:
bash a report once - ban hammer drops

Casey, the up and down comment was not meant since you took over the site.
I have been here since almost the start of SC and seen the turf wars ,the hostile takeovers ,the ego trips etc.

Matt G 03-10-2012 04:55 PM

I personally believe this is the best site on the web PERIOD.. I stay away from sites like Facebook because of all the drama and I don't think SC is anywhere near that level. I do not know one single person on here at all, but reading the comments posted throughout the site, I feel like everyone here is exactly like me (and can sometimes get a little out of control). With work, school, and a new baby I have no time to fish, and when I do I don't have the money. I stay glued to this site b/c this is the closest I will get to fishing for a while. I enjoy reading the reports and the discussions brought on by the reports. I understand how this site can be cumbersome to moderate, and that's why everyone here needs to help out on that end. I would hate to lose the only method I have of "fishing". Now go catch some fish and let me know about it!!!!!

Agreed.....work got me tied up with no fishing in sight. Reading reports is the closest thing to it.

I was gonna comment, but my obvious intellectual superiority may have offended certain people(Meaux and Pox) so instead, ill just say "Hi and I agree"!
