Shipping Container Construction

Does anyone have insight into building construction using shipping containers? I'm interested in the thought of using this approach to build a fishing camp and it's difficult to locate info on it.

I haven't ever seen one in Louisiana and just curious if anyone has????

They run anywhere from $1,000 to $6,000 depending on size and if used. Shipping is roughly $600 per container.

If you search you can find some amazing houses that have been built with containers....

Nah, she can't get rid of me that easy. Just toying with camp ideas so I don't kill myself driving back and forth each weekend.

May start renting your garage

Better check out codes and such. If you want elect. and water in Cameron Parish, you will have to meet elevation code or be more mobile like an RV or Camper.
If you are up on higher ground, I don't think you will have any problems, except you will have to install a mechanical sewer and get electric pole and sewer inspection before they will let you have power and water. FEMA really screwed things up after Rita.

I love them blue prints, I'm pretty sure you would have to have that wired before anything went into it.....and is that tide gaurd painted on it before the final coat?

Actually have a place here in H-town that sells the containers and cuts them to spec. If I have time I will go by on Sat and take pics of a two unit that they just finished up. I don't think it would end up as cheap as i thought, but a finished structure would have to be close to as storm proof as you could get.

The smaller ones are usually more expensive. go figure. I bought a 20'er a few years back around the berry. Got if for around 2600.

I still think conventional stick framing, on pilings would be cheaper. With the containers u still need to add a subfloor , 2x4 walls , frame a ceiling , insulation, sheetrock ect.. So u are basiclly paying 3-6000.00 for a container to serve as your exterior finish. I confident you could stick frame it and put hardi siding on it cheaper. Plus the whole finding someone to engineer you a set of plans to bring to the city for permitting will be difficult if u go the container route. If u didn't care what tge inside looked like u could not frame/ Rock interior walls u could just coat tge inside of the container with 2" of CLOSED cell foam and run all electric through conduit that would be visible..... I don't think your wife would approve of this route though!

I was thiking the same thing. We use these at yard offices at work and they look like crap on the inside unfinished. They do have wood floors that may be able to be sanded out and maybe a light stain.

I was thinking subfloor on 2x6-2x8 sleepers so u could insulate and run plumbing if it wasn't up off the ground

I just looked at some metal buildings prices from my friends at Security Metal in Vidalia. This was a 2009 price list. 20' x 30' metal bldg., 10' sidewalls, (1) 10 x8 rollup door, (1) walkthru door $4700. I think a prefab bldg. would be a lot more 'user friendly' and 10' ceiling would suit my needs better than say 7' or 8'. Just sayin' (I also think the flat roof containers would be a nightmare as far as leaking/weathertightness)
