Lacassine terror!

Went to hunt Lacassine refuge this morning. I have never hunted there and have heard some stories about how messy people are out there. But since I have nowhere else to hunt Idecided to give it a try. A buddy and I arrived as scheduled to a spot we noticed holding some birds. After setting up we could hear another bot approaching then cursing. Not soon after we heard banging and decided to go see if someone needed help. When we got backto the boat the motor was gone. I noticed the fuel line hanging in the water. The motor had been knocked off and was under water. We heard the boat running out and the A$$H#$%@ saying, "What happens when you hunt someones spot." I mean come on what the hell! We got our gear up and trolled back as far as we could. Another hunter was coming out and pulled us back. We called refuge agents and they stated they would do a report but if we didn't get any numbers from the boat it was a lost cause. This is real disturbing to me. I almost brought my 8 year old son this morning but decided to see how it would pan out first. I am discusted with people. My first trip seems like my last trip for the year!

That sucks. Was this in between the intracoastal and grand lake east of the east pipeline canal. We were parking on the intracoastal and walking to a spot last year and had several groups try to come set up on us. One group filled a buddy's gas tank with water

"W" 11-12-2011 12:21 PM

This is the same as theft in my eyes....god I hate a thief with a passion...when you take or destroy what's not yours....that is one thing that I will lose my temp on....... About 10 years ago I watched 2 little black boys steal a bike from a white kid...( 2 blocks from police station).... I jump out my truck and caught one of them....He looked about 13 so I could not put the total disable I want to...but I busted him good before the cops got there

"H" 11-12-2011 12:22 PM

I would go back next week, park in the SAME spot and hide in the brush. When they start their **** I would be ready to unload my shotgun on their azz! They would be the one with a busted boat, motor and a few pellet wounds. This is a sad world we live in today. When I was growing up no one had to lock a camp, my grandfather would live is flat boat tide up on the river bank for weeks and NEVER worried one time about someone bothering anything.

Lake Chuck Duck 11-12-2011 12:31 PM

It's people like that that ruin the outdoors for everyone else. The point is enjoying the outdoors and fellowship. Sorry this has happened to you. Like they said I would go back and stay close and ready when they come back.

longcast 11-12-2011 12:32 PM

"W" 11-12-2011 01:18 PM

Hell with pics...bust his azz....and take his motor!!!! Don't get even...get ahead...eye for an eye

"H" 11-12-2011 01:20 PM

I wouldn't kill somebody over a hunting spot.....but destroying my property that I worked hard for....well let's just say there are some things in this world worth going to jail for. I'll take my chances with a jury of 12 on this one.

Yup. It's not about the damn birds. It's about a mans hard earned property.

Dink 11-12-2011 01:27 PM

I'd go back till I found em. Take his motor, and sink his boat.

weedeater 11-12-2011 01:50 PM

screw the ducks now, there is a reason man is top of food chain and that ***** would make a better challenge to catch.

That has crossed my mind more than once. I am somewhat relieved they did not stick around cause I may have done something I would regret later. I am relly just happy my son wasn't there to experience this. It sux too because I live 20 minutes from the launch and was looking forward to hunting with the boy this year without getting up at 2am and driving to Sabine from Lacassine to hunt with him. I launch at Bell City drainage ditch and hit the intercoastal back east. I was parked on the south bnk of the intercoastal. Does anyone know of any safer and better area out there to hunt? I am at a loss right now.

speck-chaser 11-12-2011 03:43 PM

Thats just some sorry lowlifes that would do something like that. You can bet, they will be back to hunt that area. (prolly even tomorrow) Think I would hafta go back and set up and wait for em. then give em some of this:work:

huntin fool 11-12-2011 03:47 PM

I was replying to the guy who said he heard it happened to a guy he knew. The area you described you went seems like where we were last year. Great hunting but it got crowded FAST. I really don't think any place will be safe in lacassine this year. There are really not many spots to hunt in there at all with it being so dry and overgrown. Competition is high

Hydro 11-12-2011 07:06 PM

Geeze, what a horrible story :shaking:...

Its a shame when you cannot leave anything anywhere without it being messed with or stolen...

jchief 11-12-2011 07:39 PM

Next time you go, hide a game camera where it can "watch" your stuff

Kenner18 11-12-2011 07:46 PM

You need a two legged game camera with a sling shot. I bet that would be a surprise . LOL

Raymond 11-12-2011 08:01 PM

Bender, PM me and lets set up a hunt for you and your son.

noodle creek 11-12-2011 08:03 PM

rainy_day 11-12-2011 08:12 PM

Good deal Raymond. That's what's great about this site.....people helping each other. Not spending all their time bashing, bad mouthing, and playing arm chair game warden.

But really, I hate to hear this.

mcjaredsandwich 11-13-2011 01:06 AM

I hope those mofos are reading right now. I would take some slugs........two in their motor and one in their boat.

RODBENDER 11-13-2011 08:58 AM

Thanks for the overwhelming support!!!! The professional position I am in doesn't allow me the pleasures of retaliation as we see fit. But in my line of work I have come to realize criminals can't keep their mouth shut. They will have to brag to someone and hopefully the wrong someone. Posting what happened to me here will hopefully help in locating them and getting them discovered. I think taking my hunting rights, use of the refuge and possibly my boat is a harsh penalty. I wouldn't like to know I couldn't hunt or fish. Yikes!!!! SO keep your ears open and keep your eyes on te sky. Good luck hunting!!!!

Slidellkid 11-13-2011 09:30 AM

How did you get back out of the marsh with your motor under water? This is the main reason I don't hunt Lacassine. I have heard too many reports of water in gas, cut fuel lines and the like. This s**** pizzes me off. I understand your position about not being able to retaliate like you might want, I am in such a position myself. That being said, that does not mean you could not wait in the bushes for them to do the same thing and take a buddy with you. When they start trashing your boat again you could take pics of them or try to make an arrest or at least get their boat numbers.

Do you fellas that hunt Sabine see the same kinds stuff happening there? I have never heard much happening at Sabine. Maybe because there is usually more open water there is not as much competion.

Here is another idea. Go hunt the same spot but take a friend. Have one guy go to the hole and shine off anyone that is attempting to get too close. Have the second guy wait at the boat till shooting time starts and then have him wade on in for the hunt. He may miss a little shooting time, but at least he can protect the boat. What a shame you even have to deal with this.

Sorry this happened to you.

Raymond, good on you for offering to take this fellow and his son out.

We started off with using the trolling motor to get back. When it got week we paddled. I hunted Sabine up until last year. I moved to Lacassine and it was even worse of a trip than before having to get up at 2am to get to our spot. I not had a bad trip to Sabine. The ducks are there people just don't scout well enough. My friends and I knew the birds so well we could set up and kill our limits by how the weather acted. Not a reat abundance of Mallards but everything else was great. The water levels does limit you but still huntable. Do you hunt the Kinder area? I grew up there.

Man that is some BS! Exactly why I don't hunt public land, people are nuts! Karma is a you know what, there time will run out.

Marshrat 11-13-2011 11:24 PM

I used to hunt Lacassine for archery season and did a little duck hunting and never had any problem with someone messing with my boat. The only thing that got to me was no one slows down any more when your boat is parked, and have gotten quite a bit of water in the boat from time to time.

What happened to you is just dirty and I hope they slip up and brag to the wrong person. People like this are not sportsman, they are trash and need to be put away for a long time. No game is worth going to jail for if caught.

Good luck with finding out who did this.

You're a better man than I am to be taking this the way you are.

Don't get me wrong Dink! In the heat of the moment I was fired up. That was why I was happy they were already gone! First reaction was to shot and ask questions later. But I am gonna be patient and see what happens. I am actually thinking of going back and giving it another go. With no alternatives to hunting anywhere else I am limited. We will see when Wednesday comes around if I feel the same.

Marshrat 11-14-2011 11:46 AM

What you nred to do is find someone in law enforcement to go with you and have him stay at the boat, but hidden in the grass. Then if these ******heads come back, he can make an arrest or hold them until wildlife agents get there.
