abu revo and ora inshore

I need some feedback on these reels anyone tried them out yet???

Jedi Lure Tricks 09-22-2011 08:01 PM

about 80% of revos come into our shop for repairs and not cleanings, about the same percentage of shimanos come in for cleanings not repairs. save a headache and go shimano.

Patt 09-22-2011 08:04 PM

I'd it the revo inshores that go in?

Patt 09-22-2011 08:08 PM

The onshored come with the upgrade bearings from the factory unlike shimano and i know a guide thats had the revo and ora the inshore models since February and never haf a problem unlike 2011 shimanos

LPfishnTIM 09-22-2011 08:36 PM

I wear out reels, real fast, the orra lasted 5 months and needed repairs, I sold it on ebay after getting it fixed, I got another one I don't use much, citica is much better. I have bought quantums that are smooth reels and I fish all day with them, there not bad but I wouldn't use them in saltwater. if your gonna fish fresh and salt get a shimano it will last. the new models don't look as quality as last years models.

Patt 09-22-2011 08:44 PM

I have new and old and the new ones have dissapointed me

its not the bearings that have the problems, its the worms and pawls that still wear out like theyre made of butter. and i'm curious, what 2011 shimano has he had problems with?.. if u r talking the sub $100 reels like canaen and others then yes, they are obviously of lesser quality.

Sounds like you don't need opinions to me.

No No! I should've put a "LOL" in there. When you read every thread and try to interpret what a poster will do next based one person's post it makes you a little !!

Shimano is a solid reel. The other reels might work out fine a person and thier specific fishing routine...just gotta try it out.

I looked at the lewes (sp) awhile back a the Tbox and liked them.

Patt 09-22-2011 09:00 PM

I have the new chronarch and the handle assembly stripped out after 2 months i was just wondering if anyone has had luck with the Abu inshore reels cause i heard good things about them that's all

Cool man, i hear ya! and yep it's all about personal preferences. i just try to help because thats what people ask me every day while trying to decide what to buy... i'm not a hard sell type guy, i like to give the customer all the information i can about the subject and let them make an informed decision.

if someone comes in the shop and says 'sell me that abu!', i aint arguing, i'm ringin it up! :grinpimp: but if they ask me the difference between the two, i shoot em straight and tell them the truth to the best of my knowledge and ability! ;)

its all good man, i remember talkin to ya in the shop the other day. there's no doubt that is a warranty issue like we talked about. shimano will repair or likely replace your reel for free under their warranty policy. :)

SaltERedneck 09-23-2011 08:10 AM

Love the Revo Premiers. IF you gots the money well worth it. I have owned shimanos and lews also. All quality reels. Shimanos (2010), IMO, hold up better to salt. I wont put a revo or Lews in salt.... my preference to fresh water.

1fastmerc 09-23-2011 10:17 AM

Weedwacker bought a Ora at the first of the yr. It didn't last at all. He had to bring it back. I bought one of the first revos and love it.

J Adams has a ora inshore and revo inshore. Sijce februrary and hasn't done any maintenance and their as smooth and cast just as far as my chronarch

jpeff31787 09-24-2011 08:15 AM

i have a revo stx, fished with it in saltwater probably for the first year, then fished with it strictly in fresh only because i replaced it with a curado. The revo still casts excellent and its one of my favorite long distance casters especially with topwater. Been having it for over 5 years i believe.

"W" 09-24-2011 09:47 AM

Shimano is by far #1 inshore line of reels...from Curado,Chronarch and Core..

Don't see why anyone would use anything else for inshore saltwater....None will out last Shimano reels!!! That's a Guarantee

gonzalesdave 09-24-2011 09:57 AM

Yeah. And go ahead and sell whatever boat you have too and buy a Haynie. Doesnt matter what brand if it's not a Haynie.

Shimano and Haynie 4-Lyfe playa

Great choice of equipment.... And the guy asked and I believe I use a reel enough to know the answer!!

Patt 09-24-2011 11:40 AM

Haha I've always used shimano fresh and salt the ONLY reason i asked about the Abu is cause IM very dissapointed in the new shimanos and i don't buy the cheap ones but they're all made cheap now and hopefully mine was just a defect

YellowMouth7 10-04-2011 08:57 AM

SHimano Currado is the best bang for your buck.....you can get em on sale at $119.00 now!!!!!
have had two revos and both broke within a year.....i have 5 currados and have never had them break at all.....the oldest is over 6yrs.

I agree to an extent but disagree as well the newer reels that are not going to be Japan made will not be as good of quality,

1) Chronarch 200E or 50E = Good real holds up well and casts and reels very smooth but it is no Chronarch CH100D7. Still made in Japan were they have been producing the older ones.

2) Curado 200E7 or 50E = I dont know any one who has ever picked one of these up with dissapointment, one of the best all around reels on the market HANDS DOWN! If you can still find the E7's buy them because they are going cheap on the new ones that we will see sometime this fall and not sure how they will be performance/integrity wise.

3) Citica 200E = Reel is a tank I use mine for wading and beach fishing and i cant complain one bit about these reels, not quite as smooth as the above stated but great reel for $100. Now the new ones that we will also see this fall will no longer be made in Japan but seem to have some upgrades so they might be worth the extra money they are going to be charging for them but only time will tell.

If you are going to fish saltwater and fresh i would definately take the Shimano Route.
Strictly Freshwater have at the other brands but as previously stated dont expect them to hold up in the long run.

As for your reel Patt you must have gotten a defected one because the new line of the lower end shimanos havent hit shelves yet, so you not getting the malaysian made reels just yet. Best of luck in the future man

Abu Ora sucks, it was good the first trip I made but the next trip I made it started grinding and by the third trip it would catch every crank and it was used only at Toledo Bend, I have a Shimano Callisto that is 8-9 yrs old that has been used in salt and fresh water and never really taken care of and its still used every trip and still work's fine. I looked at the Lewes at Tackle Box and its pretty sweet, think I may buy one soon.

I agree, there are alot of reels out there that i would like to try, but why switch if you know what you using works and is reliable. . . . . just my 2 cents

Get you a Chronarch 50e or a Curado 50e and load it up with some 20lb powerpro, you wont be dissapointed! :smokin:
