ready for the season
ALL THIS TALK ABOUT DUCK HUNTING IS KILLING ME SO YALL PLEASE STOP. THIS IS MY SECOND YEAR OF DUCK HUNTING AND LET ME TELL YOU GUYS IM HOOKED, LAST YEAR I WENT HUNTING FOR MY FIRST TIME ON A THURSDAY AT THE END OF THE FIRST SPLIT, FRIDAY I BOUGHT ME A BOAT AND A NEW GUN AND DEEKS AND I WAS OFF TO LEARN NEW THINGS. THANKS TO MY BUDDY MATT AND HIS DOG T-**** (AKA RUFF) THAT GOT MY BLOOD BOILING FOR THE WATERFOWL CREATURES. AT THE END OF LAST YEAR I TOOK RUFF BY MYSELF ON A HUNT AND DECIDED I NEED MY OWN DOG, SO THE DAY AFTER THE SEASON CLOSED I WAS OFF AND PURCHASED BRILEY, I GOT HIM AT 7 WEEKS AND WAS CLUELESS ON WHAT TO DO AS FAR AS TRAINING SO I READ BOOKS AND WATCHED VIDEOS ON DOG TRAINING AND AT 8.5 MONTHS NOW HE IS DOING TRIPLE MARKS, BLIND RETRIEVES, HAND SIGNALS AND WORKS ON THE WHISTLE. I KNOW ITS EASY TO PAY AND GET YOUR DOG TRAINED BUT I ONLY PAID 400 FOR MY DOG AND IN THE ECONOMY THESE DAYS ITS HARD FOR ME TO FORK OUT 450-500 A MONTH FOR TRAINING. THIS GOES OUT FOR ALL THE GUYS WITH NEW DOGS THAT IS LOOKING FOR A TRAINER. GO TO YOUR NEAREST MIRROR AND LOOK IN IT AND YOU WILL SEE YOUR TRAINER. ITS EASY TO TRAIN, JUST TAKES TIME. BUT IN THE END ITS WORTH IT. AND WHEN PEOPLE SEE YOUR DOG WORK AND ASK YOU "WHERE DID YOU GET YOUR DOG TRAINED" AND YOU SAY " I TRAINED HIM/HER" I WILL ASSURE YOU, YOU WILL SMILE WHEN YOU SAY THAT. ANYWAYS ITS 24 DAYS TILL THE SEASON STARTS AND ITS KILLING ME. YALL HAVE A FUN AND SAFE SEASON. OH AND THANKS TO LA SPORTSMAN.COM FOR THE CLASSIFIED ADDS IN THE AID OF ME FINDING MY DOG. ILL BE LOOKING FOR A CHOCOLATE FEMALE SOON AS A SECONDARY HUNTING DOG AND A PERSONAL DOG FOR MY GIRLFRIEND SO IF YALL KNOW OF ANYONE HAVING PUPS AROUND EARLY DECEMBER/JANUARY LET ME KNOW. THANKS.
here is a few pics of my Briley aka JL's Briley Shotgun Choke http://i174.photobucket.com/albums/w95/jldak318/2-4.jpg http://i174.photobucket.com/albums/w95/jldak318/9-3.jpg http://i174.photobucket.com/albums/w95/jldak318/1-4.jpg |

Calls stay in the truck for blowing. Wife can't stand them. Been bringing them offshore. My guys are sick of hearing a duck call. But I love it. Also been tuning up the dogs. Had a run in with a gator yesterday. First time I've seen gators in this bayou for 5 yrs.
|
Cannot wait.....I do not know what I rather more......shooting ducks or catching specs????
|
She would never make it at my house
|
Yeah i been blowing calls since last year, i cant walk past my lanyard at my house without blowing a few notes, my dog dont mind them but my lil lady is jealous cause she cant blow the calls yet, but she tries. Lol.

Dogs
It will be my first year with a dog also. my old man always had one, but i finally got a chocalate last year. I also trained her myself. She is by no means a field trial dog. She will not do the fancy stuff, but she will do the practical stuff, like retrieve a bird for me.
What most people don't understand is that even though you buy a dog and send it to a trainer, that doesn't mean you can bring it home put it in a pen and it will be good for the rest of its life. You still have to learn about your dog and the training doesn't stop. I sure can't wait to hunt behind my dog though. |
Pretty dog I trained mine last year and hunted him at 9 months old. He did not miss a bird duck, goose or dove. He just had a lot of puppy still in him when there was nothing to go get. I hunt with a farmer friend I he would not let me go with my dog. That really helped me out with him. Started last week getting the P*** and vinergor out of him at frist he just want to play but now he back knowing work time and play time. You are so rigth about when someone asks who trained them and you say I did your hat gets alittle tight.

yeah my dog isnt a ribbon winner either but i didnt want that, last time i checked, it really dont matter how you cook a ribbon you still cant eat it. lol
naah for my dog being 8.5 months old i know for a fact he is ready. im not bragging by no means because he still has alot of puppy in him but i think he will do pretty good. im interested to see what he will do with a live/half live duck, esp a diver or a downed goose that is mad, lol. should be a nice sight. he always had alot of drive with him and he still shows me he is working hard for me. he knows what i ask out of him and he knows i wont ask anything out of him that i know he isnt capable of but we work together and it all falls into place. im ready to get him a g/f so i can train her too. its a big acomplishment for me to watch my dog work and know that everything he does is what i taught him. :grinpimp: |

Here's my hunting buddy. Good thing with him is if you're tired, you can ride him back to the truck. From the looks of his "Calico Commander" you can tell he is ready for hunting season too. I started blowing my duck call and he started beating his chest with it like Tarzan!!!!!!!!!!!!!
