Shimano Caenan vs. H2O Mettle
Does anyone have experience with these reels? I have heard a lot of good things about the Mettle, but talked to a kid yesterday that fishes with a Caenan and loves it. I've always been partial to Shimano products myself. Just looking for a lower priced, decent reel.

If you gonna get a caenan get a citica you will be way happier with it
|
Yeah citicas are nice. Dont waste your money on a mettle. Ive got one, prefer the citica.
|
I have a citica 200D. Are y'all referring to the E? I started out with a $50 reel (H2O) and now y'all have put me in a $100 reel. I understand the Citica is a better reel, but for the little bit that I fish now, I just wonder if twice the price is necessary.

I have been trying for 3 months now to get parts for the Mettle,no luck, even Academy has no clue, no contact info to be found in box or online. You can easily get parts for any Shimano.

I have 1 H2O mettle and like it, if you not fishin saltwater everyday you good..have a friend that has a few of them with no problems either..but you do get what you pay for..all I can say is clean them often and they'll last a lil while..but if got the cash to drop right now go shimano

But I did buy my little brother a mettle and it's not a bad little reel, it casts great with 20lb braid, but it is no comparison to a Shimano IMO Either way you go I think you will like either one good luck lol I hate decision making |
just get you a h20 and give it a try then..I make plenty of money to buy high dollar rods and reels but not having the time to enjoy them enough I stick with the cheeper ones and have had decent luck with them..but they do go out quick in saltwater..ive thrown away to h20's this year due to salt water and I clean and oil them..so its all up to you on how much you willing to spend???

Get you a Citica 200E, perfect for fresh or salt you won't be dissapointed. If you get a wild hair up your arse get you a new chronarch for 200 they are sick!!!! I love mine I got the Chronarch 50E bad arse!
|
I bought 3 Caenans at the begining of the year and they still work like champs. But I generally just buy new reels every season so I don't have to fool with cleaning.

I fish a lot, I've bought abu garcias ambassadeurs, orras, revos, quantams, shimano, bass pro's brand, browning, I have had at least 20+ reels the ambassadeur c3 5500 was a good reel will last forever, the orras are decent and the revo is good, but you have to clean and oil them pretty often. my buddy has curados that are at least 15 years old he takes them apart and cleans them once a year, if his old curados are still working I don't know why I would buy anything else.

I've got some insight on Mettle's. First one I bought works smooth and flawless...not bad at all for the price. The second one I bought has a grind to it as you reel in. It is useless to me. My father bought one also that has the same grind to it. I think they are hit and miss with the Mettles. My Shimanos have all been smooth and hands down the best reels. I'd pull the trigger on the caenan before the mettle for sure.
