Sea Hunt BX 24

anyone run one
If so what are your thoughts.

jpeff31787 07-22-2011 11:18 AM

don't run one, but saw one a few weekends ago. Talk about a good looking boat. I've heard many good things about the smaller ones.

Definitely going to be a boat to consider when I'm ready to upgrade

Slidellkid 07-22-2011 11:24 AM

I've not run one but have been inside one. Boat is friggin huge!! Would be a great dual purpose bay and light offshore boat. Sea Hunt has an exceptional reputation and by all accounts is very responsive to owner issues or complaints. I'd love to have the 24 but might consider that BX 22 as well.

i saw a bx22 for sale recently, if you are considering now. Think it was on hull truth.

PUREBAY2200 07-22-2011 12:42 PM

Awsome boat!!!!
Super soft ride.... Not a speed demon. With max HP on 22 or 24 u ain't Breakin 55 mph.
BX 24 with a 250 yammy
52.7 mph
BX 24 with 225 yammy
48 mph

latravcha 07-22-2011 01:06 PM

Duel purpose is why I’m looking at the 24
I figured it would be a turd as far as speed .
One of the big reasons I'm looking at the is b/c i have two young girls and really want something with high sides but still want to be able to mount a trolling motor on it.

Anyone know of a good dealer in La. I refuse to go to Bent over marine.

Also I have looked for the MSRP on the boat and can’t find it.
Legendary marine in gulf shores wants 59,000 for it rigged out with a 300 Yamaha, Minn Kota 101 trolling motor, lowrance HDS7, VHF, power pole, 4 speaker am fm radio with amp.
Does this sound about right?

I saw the 22bx on hull truth and boat trader. Think they wanted 44k
I really want the 24 and you dont see many used ones for sale.

Look more....
I seen a few n fla with 250 yammy & trailer for 40-45 depending on options.
Putting a 300 on there ain't gonna b worth it.
Stay with a 250, spend the difference on electronics & accessories

PUREBAY2200 07-22-2011 01:17 PM

Also..... Make sure if u buy a fla boat the price includes the trailer..... Lotta dealers don't include that price.... Or batteries, prop & pre wired trolling motor.

I disagree ..... Get the 300 so u don't have to bury it to the nuts to get anywhere ... Run it at 4200 rpm good gas mileage. I have a 24' triton w a 250 only regret is not gettin a 300 v6 yammy

PUREBAY2200 07-22-2011 02:13 PM

Sea hunt will tell u it's a total waste, when I was looking it them in feb I spoke with the guy who designed the boat. He said a 300 will only add 1-2 mph .... Bc the increased weight.
Lots of boats can run a 300.... But it's not worth it.
Ranger is the same.

fishinpox 07-22-2011 02:18 PM

They tell u that bcuz they want a lower price point

PUREBAY2200 07-22-2011 02:32 PM

Guy said, they made the max HP 300 bc of louisiana people complaining about it...... He said there was a boat called a "hynie" lol that was built in Texas & offered blazing speed and " stayed on top"
So they wanted to offer more speed to the seahunt bx24 & make louisiana customers happy.....

That's what "my guy" told me.......

Montauk17 07-22-2011 02:57 PM

A 2011 yamaha 250 and 300 is the exact same weight, should gain a min of 5 mph between the two. Always best to use the max HP on any boat. Quicker holeshot, better cruise speed and mpg, ect. I rode in a sea hunt 22 and it rode very good in a chop,24 will do that much better.

PUREBAY2200 07-22-2011 03:12 PM

So u spend 5-6 k more and get 5 more mph........ Hmmmm
Not worth it to me.
Someone find a performance spec of the 300 yammy.... Lets conpare....:)

POX with a full tank of gas and 3 in the boat with gear what does your Triton get at WOT??????

BTW, Seahunts are in boats.

50-51 @6100 rpm but still have more throttle left so I thunk I need to get a bigger prop

PUREBAY2200 07-22-2011 04:59 PM

So is 5 mph worth 6k????
Just wondering???
How often do u run WOT??

fishinpox 07-22-2011 05:04 PM

Not sure price difference I thought it was more like 2000-3000 $ more but I could be wrong. Either way I would spend it so I didn't have to run wot all the time less stress on motor

PUREBAY2200 07-22-2011 05:20 PM

The Jump to the 300 is big.

Don't know performance on the triton with a 300

But the seahunt bx24 with a 300 will run 57 mph & burn 25.7 gph

4500 rpm 42 mph 15 gph

The 24 has the nice high sides you are looking for.

The prices at Legendary Marine are sky high. I would suggest you consider Chatlee Boats in North Carolina or Eds Marine superstore in VA. Yes, you would either have to have the boat shipped or go get it but the price will be worth it. Ed's quoted me 38k for the BX24. Of course, that was without all the goodies, but it did include a 250 four stroke Yami and trailer. Also look on Boat trader.com.

The new Yammi 300 v6 weights less than the older model 250's.

Triton 240LTS with a 300 will run mid 50's full tank 2 people and a T-top at wot. Boat also gets up in less than one length. That motor is like driving a Ferrari. Smooth as glass, instant response and quiet as hell.

I got up to 50 with 6 people, fishing gear, ice, and 1/4 tank of gas in my triton with a 250 Suzuki... Haven't run the new prop with a light load yet...
