Pistol Suggestion?

Might be in the market soon for a new (to me) pistol. Any suggestions? Used price range around $300-$500. Considering 9mm another 40 or maybe even a 45.

BIGJ 07-08-2011 11:07 PM

Try to find you a Kimber 1911. They are niceeee!!!

iron man 07-08-2011 11:09 PM

1911s are iconic guns. Will hopefully own one today.

$300- $500? no way. But I would still recomend a 1911 of some kind.

Tex Dawg 07-08-2011 11:19 PM

Look at the Smith & Wesson M&P's, I have a 9mm & enjoy shooting this one the most.

iron man 07-08-2011 11:23 PM

I like the M&Ps. A buddy of mine in the Marine Corps has one. I put a laser site on it for him. I'd rather something without a external safety like the Glocks or the M&P with no safety. I have the Sigma and the trigger is really rough. If I went Glock, I could buy my cousins old duty weapon from him.

Tex Dawg 07-08-2011 11:31 PM

Mine has no safety on it.

Tex Dawg 07-08-2011 11:33 PM

You could get a 40 in the M&P, then go to Storm Lake Barrels & get the 9mm conversion kit & 9mm mags, then you can use it either way.

LPfishnTIM 07-08-2011 11:34 PM

xdm springfield or glock

I'd love to have a gun that I can shoot either with

I'm not a big fan of Springfields. Good guns but I dont like how the spring guides stick out past the barrel.

I found out about this after I bought my 9mm. They also have a kit for the Glock. Look at the M&P forum, there is a tutorial on there to smooth out the trigger * make it a lighter pull

it does that for a reason, if the gun is pushed up against something at the barrel end it will still fire, on a glock it won't because it will push the slide back disabling the trigger from hitting the firing pin. springfield is one of the best pistols on the market, it has a better barrel then a glock and more safety mechanisms. the xdm does weigh more and the accuracy of the xdm is excellent.

hankscke123 07-09-2011 05:26 AM

Take it from experience save a few more dollars and buy a 1911 45 and be done u won't regret it

booyagasha 07-09-2011 06:19 AM

Glock 30 small.easy to use. .light recoil..and 9 rounds in the magazine and a .45 in the chanber. Price is around five tho

iron man 07-09-2011 01:02 PM

I would like anything with a 4" barrel or a little bigger. Also would like the mag to hold at least 10 rounds. I'm looking at a Glock 22 or a Glock 23 right now.

JDd 08-10-2011 08:51 AM

Academy had the S&W M&P 9 or 40 for $279

evidrine 08-10-2011 08:57 AM

What? No revolvers???? Man, I would love to get my hands on a Ruger .45LC revolver. That thing would be a beast with +P Hot loads.

Obviously not....dude m&p is wsy more expensive than that...the pistol you are thinking of is a sigma and and is a ok gun for a starter as well....and a revolver is a hand gun or pistol...geez.

I'm not trying to insult your intelligence man...but I see them priced at 350 online...

simplepeddler 08-10-2011 01:33 PM

yes there are some out there for that price............but when you add the shipping FFL fee tax(maybe) and extra mag and holster, it's a few bones in savings.

I would have to have intelligence for you to insult it.............but thanks for the compliment. lol

We had venison, fish, and frog legs for supper what a day

Check out the Cimarron Firearms if you want old school for a good price and seem to have good reviews.

eman 08-10-2011 10:10 PM

Thats sweet lookin wheel gun. I have a dan wesson 7.5" 45Lc, but the wife and i both carry a s&w 357.

CrazyD 08-11-2011 12:29 AM

X2 on learning gun control.
I have been to the range and watched guys shoot. Out of the hundred or so times I have only met a hand full if people that were there learning their gun and how to control the shot, meaning how it shoots in their hands. I don't care if you can put a couple dozen rounds down range in 6 seconds. It's what can you do with each round that counts.

I see the same thing at the rifle range when guys are sighting in there hunting rifles. They take a dozen shots using the bench rest and think they are ready to hunt.

I want to ask them if they will have that $ 200 gun rest in the stand when they take the shot?

Practice shooting how you are going to shoot in the woods.
