Calcaseau Point

Does anybody know if calcaseau point is open and selling live shrimp and how much.

longcast 05-20-2011 07:09 PM

There open and have shrimp. I'm not sure of prices. I think last year it was 16 dollars a quart.

You could spend all day castig for bait shrimp. It is much simpler to just buy a quart or two and save yourself a whole lot of trouble/time/fishingtime... just saying

I prefer these, glow color works well but very hard to find. Manns quit making them I bought 300 a while back. Gunna suck when I run out...small bait but I have caught some 4-5 pound trout on em. Very durable lure, with a good jighead 1 will last for a limit of trout.

SaltyShaw 05-21-2011 04:42 PM

yeh i like the chartreuse glow sparkle beetles . . . . never relly tried those salty grubs, may have to give em a wack

Do y'all have a preference on color of jig heads?

I've never had an issue with the nonpainted lead.

Sent from my EVO

I use plain jigheads

Dink 05-21-2011 04:56 PM

I use a flutter hook on them instead of a jighead.......sinks flatter. I've never seen a shrimp swim straight up and down. They always stay flat

If you work it fast it does not have time to go up and down, more side to side action.

Dink 05-21-2011 05:00 PM

Can't go to fast with a beer in one hand and a thermometer in your mouth

1/8 and 1/4 depends on the tide and wind

Is any one better than the other. Does it depend on weight?

SaltyShaw 05-21-2011 07:47 PM

I don't know, if I use a poppin cork I chunk the middle one with a circle hook and no weight

I use old bay sider.... Bought 8 3 years ago..... Still using same 8. I've repainted them a few times. Corks are dinged up , but the main piece is still strait and Workin just like new!!!

Not sure it makes a difference other than looking pretty, a sharp hook does. 1/16, 1/8, and 1/4. Sometimes the lighter the jig the more strikes if they want a slower fall, but they don't cast as far. I try to cast them downwind anyway though.

IMO you really don't need a 1/4 under the cork, I don't think they bounce as high when you pop it.
