Got the same setup, but with a castaway pole. Very nice. The penn spinfisher SSg 420, and 430 are very good reels. |
I'm gonna have to check out these okumas ..... Always been a Shimano guy but I'll give it a try
I have my Sonora on a 7'2" Blair Wiggins Inshore Slam Rod and I love the rod. |
Okuma inspira 30 is a great reel. I use the 30lb power pro.

Ask 10 different people and 10 answers....can't go wrong with shimano,I have a sedona that is 3 years old still like new.

i really like the shimano sedona for a value-priced reel. $60 for a well balanced reel with a good instant-anti reverse, good deal. add that reel to a clarus lifetime warrantry rod and you have a nice, light, sensitive and well-balanced combo for $130.. and it'll last for years. ;) |
Corey, I have 2 ugly Stix........you'll see one in action in 2 weeks......put a good reel on it and your golden!

Got the Okuma Inspira 30 and Epixor 30. They get wet all the time when I wade and just a little spritz of fresh water and some lube and they good to go. Got one on a 7ft Castaway and another on a 7 ft. Berkley Lightnin' Rod. I got 10 lb Big Game on em and they work just fine for me. They are really great trout combos, too. Just gotta play the reds a little and let the rod and drag do the work. Fun, fun..... |

i have two of the sedonas going on seven years. Time for an upgrade though, these are the old style sedonas. The newer ones are sweet! |
Okuma Trio and a carrot stik wild 7ft M Sweet matching setup!!!
|
Okuma Epixor / Ugly Stik or Rhino Rod / 30# Power Pro line. I also have another Okuma model but I forgot the name (might be an Inspira?), I try and stay below $50-60 on the reel, Okuma lets you do that if you shop around, and the reel is smooth and durable.

I asked the US Reels rep. at the Houston Fishing Show if it was made for saltwater.
He kept changing the subject on me. Never would answer my saltwater question. When I asked where it was made at, he hung his head and said China. It is a nice looking reel, but it is made in China. Why is it named US Reel? Makes no sense to me. All their reels have nice features, they have reels that are made just for braid, but if they cannot hold up in saltwater, Ray don't want it. I could get a Zebco spinning reel for 1/10th the price and get the same saltwater service out of it. My wife has the older model Shimano Stratic. Brother in law has a newer model Stratic and I have a couple of the new composite Stratics. They are very nice. Very light, but kinda expensive. But you get what you pay for. I know a guide out of Leeville that uses Okuma rod and reels. He loves them, but Okuma gives them to him. He sells them, used, to customers at the end of each season. The preceding message is just my opinion. Not to be taken as the gospel about fishing reels. When you find something you like, stick with it. No matter the brand or price. |
Went with two okumas and two shimanos and 4 redfish Allstar rods (on sale) Lol
So I'm going to give them a whirl |

Ray I don't know if the US Reels were made for saltwater but I've got 4 of them(oldest about 4 1/2 year old) and have only fished salt water with them and I've had zero issues with them. The only thing I've ever done is rinsed them of with the hose. Heck I've never even lubed them.

Sad part about that is their company rep is probably like a lot of companies lately, their reps now what's in their pamphlets and that's it. But trust me they hold up great and are smooth.
