FORD vs dodge

I know there is no comparison, but I'm trying to get my lil buddy (he drives a dodge) to come out the closet.
I keep telling him its ok to come out the closet and let everyone know he would love to drive a FORD. If i knew how to create a poll on here I would although we already know what the results would be....right, lil buddy?? :D

Dodge, no doubt

weedeater 05-10-2011 12:57 PM

had an dodge oil burner for my last truck and it was a beast, i know alot of guys with ford oil burners that live in a shop. i am driving a gas ford king ranch and like it almost as much as it loves gas stations but probly gona be smart next time and by a TOYOTA TACOMA

ckinchen 05-10-2011 12:59 PM

Ford F250 Diesel 4X4, best truck I have ever owned. I have had a Dodge Hemi, Chevy Z71, Nissan Titan, etc….

Nothing wrong with the other trucks, with today's Technology they all have improved but I will buy another F250 when this one is ready to be replaced.

specktator 05-10-2011 01:08 PM

I have a Z71 Duramax and love it. Only thing I hate is the tiny fuel tank. (25 gallons) I used to hate Fords b/c they were so plain on the interior but now they are sweet. Just too rich for my blood. A macked out F250 will run you $65-70k. One of my buddies just got a brand new crew cab 4x4 Tundra. I drove it the other day and that thing is sweet. I just gotta have my 3/4 ton for pulling goosenecks, big trailers, and my boat.

F150 is the only 1/2 ton i'd buy right now

joshdomingue 05-10-2011 01:14 PM

toyota tacoma, but if were to buy another it would be a dodge diesel!!!

MossLake 05-10-2011 01:28 PM

Forgot to mention we are talkin bout diesels here.

mcjaredsandwich 05-10-2011 01:33 PM

my dodge 1500 is a oil eater. Eats gas too. Then again, the 1997 v8 magnum isnt gas or oil friendly. I get 10mpg city, 14 hwy.

"W" 05-10-2011 01:36 PM

Chevy over Dodge ...... But LIke RD said.....Obama ownes them but still better than dogde

Chevy owner for 17 years.......
My next truck will be a Ford

BIRD DOG 05-10-2011 01:46 PM

Considering that FORD is the only one that didnt need a bailout I would say its a no brainer.F150 has and always will be the #1 truck on the road!!

longsidelandry 05-10-2011 01:50 PM

If I could get a diesel I would definitely get the new Ford over a Dodge. I know a couple guys that have some and say these are the best one's since the 7.3 and only time will tell if they are as good or not. It seems like Ford may have finally found a diesel engine worth a damn.

Dats what i drive!

iron man 05-10-2011 03:06 PM

Yeah, I'd rather drive a older model Chevy with fewer buttons in it than a Ford. I'd like to see my next birthday while just trying to change the radio station with all those buttong.

whunter29 05-10-2011 03:45 PM

I would go dodge because they last and will pull your house if you ever need to move it.lol

fishaholic82 05-10-2011 03:46 PM

I'll never own another chevy my 07 silverado 1500 has been in the shop way to much. At 67,000 miles the transmission went out and its going back in the shop on friday for multiple sensor failures and a loud ticking/ rattle when the engine is cold. My next truck will be either an f-150 or tundra.

I love my tundra but i just got mine out of the shop for a stuck air injection valve(emissions), supposedly a common power, but i love the 380 hp with 18 mpg avg!!

*common problem not power, and i have 80000 miles.

Dink 05-10-2011 03:53 PM

New eco boost would be nice!!

fishaholic82 05-10-2011 04:42 PM

I like everything about the new Tundras except the way the front end looks, but I think the ride and power make up for it. Needless to say its gonna be a hard choice. But it dam sure won't be a Chevy!

I got a 07 1500 Z71 with 100,000 miles and it's NEVER been in the shop...

As MossLake has mentioned this is a thread on diesel trucks.

If you do not own or have owned a diesel truck then............

Moss I own a D-Max/auto/4X4. For me I like my truck. Are there things about my truck I would like to change, you bet. Hey, there is no perfect in every aspect of truck made.
It boils down to your preference in brand. Every brand will have issues of some magnitude during ownership. You will talk and hear from the different brand owners about their truck issues. All things regarding ownership of diesel trucks are different. Every owner drives and maintains their trucks differently, therefore, the brand of truck issues will vary. In the end it is your money purchase the brand of diesel truck you would like.

Feesherman 05-10-2011 04:48 PM

Look up Dodge in the dictionary and see what it says!

To Avoid!

mikedatiger 05-10-2011 04:51 PM

I averaged 21mpg in my 250 on the way to Big Lake the other day. Hands down the best vehicle I have ever owned. My brother in law just bought a new BMW and I think the 250 is a much nicer vehicle...

southern151 05-10-2011 04:55 PM

Not sure on the mechanical aspects but, structurally, they are all neck and neck. I've worked on many of the above mentioned in the collision aspect and they are all built the same way...CHEAP! The repairs are higher than heck on them all, especially if you get into the rear of them. Ford and GM both use a multi-piece rear bumper that is literally rivetted together! The cheapest repair I've done on a GM or Ford when it comes to low speed impacts(i.e. backing into something at less than 5 mph) has been $2800! Personally, I love it! Owners hate it!

shellman 05-10-2011 05:36 PM

I would go Ford for diesel and Tundra for gas ....

My silverado has 96,000 on it and I've got an 07 Tahoe with 65,000 on it and they both go into the shop enough to know the service techs on a first name basis. As soon as the warranties are up on these vehicles they're getting traded quick!

flounder_smacker 05-10-2011 06:21 PM

every truck i owned has been a chevy. i put a lot of mileage on my vehicle's "56k last year" and next year when i buy a truck its going to be a f150 with the ecobost. friend just got one in the fx4 and its a beast. 23 on the hwy and a real good ride. the older chevys used to be bullet proof but this new model has given nothing but problems. mostly the 4wd system and a bunch of electronic crap. plus obama is in gm now so im making the switch and want to stay american.

I currently own both Micah and the BMW is far nicer and more expensive, nothing wrong with the f250 but you can not compare the "niceness" of an f250 to a 550i. I will take you for a ride in both and you will see. I will say this, your f250 is the nicest truck I have ridden in, I have one just like it only two years older.

jlincecum 05-10-2011 06:50 PM

between Ford and Dodge diesels, I would go with Ford on the new models definitly. Ford is a lot nicer on the interior and I'm not a fan of the new motor in the dodges. loved my Dmax when I had it but my next truck will probably be a new super duty

ckinchen 05-10-2011 07:01 PM

I have a 08 that had a new transmission at 80,000 miles and it has more eletrical problems then you can count. I got it brand new and it has been in the shop 17 times. Check engine light has been on pretty much since 30,000 miles and I now have 108,000 miles and the light is still just as bright as it was the first time I saw it!!!

trophytroutman 05-10-2011 07:07 PM

I used to drive dodge and wife drove chevy.now im driving chevy and shes driving dodge.if i had to choose between dodge or ford.i pick dodge hands down.

Guess who wants to borrow my truck all the time to go to home depot, buy mulch, haul tools, etc…My nephew even tells my b-in-law he has a girl car :p
and it ain't no high dollar 5 series! And yes, the 250 is nicer than a 3 series!!!
And no, I will not go out on a date with you in your car :work:

adamsfence 05-10-2011 09:20 PM

in my opion the cummin engine's are proven. i have had 2 power strokes 6.0 (junk) injectors stayed fried and my work truck which is a 7.3 its a tank best motor ever made. but the new ones are just too new with me yet to trust.

now gas i have always been a dodge man my hemi will pull what ever i hook to it and runs like a scalded ape. i also have put 75000 miles in less than 2 years and i get 20 mpg in a 4x4. gm don't even compare. if i got something else it would be a ford gas burner don't have a gripe bought them except for the price.

whunter29 05-10-2011 10:03 PM

Guys I have an 07 Dodge with 280000 miles on it. I am in the hotshot business and I am not easy on my truck often pulling more than it was designed to pull and it has held up extremely well. Hell my 40 ft mf weighs in at 8,800 pounds empty.

I already drive an '08 F250 4x4 crewcab 6.4L diesel king ranch. Just tryin to convince my lil buddy(closet FORD fan) to get out of his dodge diesel and step UP to the FORD. But, with the 6.4L he will have to step DOWN on the fuel mileage!! Worst mileage diesel out there, but IMO the best looking and riding out there. Can't worry bout mileage when its only $4.00/gal right?? Just can't drive it much. I only avg about 11-12 mi/gal in town(lot of short distance stop and go). The 2011 should get you way more than that.
I do alot of window tinting on the side and I will say this---- Im getting alot more new Dodge trucks in the shop than ever before. Price must be right or something. They have finally changed the looks of the Dodge for the better. My lil closet buddy wants to trade rides for a week (of course he does, he drives a dodge). Just can't see myself in that dodge(or can't be seen in it). Anyway, I think I've got him thinking FORD for his next truck.

My 06 dodge oil burner would get 20hwy and bout 17town and that was fig off several tanks with pen and paper not the puter, i put 35" tires and still got close to 17hwy. i have an uncl with an 2003 king ranch oil burner and he has spent more on the motor tthen he paid for the truck

I don't think you will hear alot of good things about the 6.0L Fords. Have heard lots of head gasket and other stories on those engines. Haven't had any of those issues with my 6.4L yet (other than fuel mileage) and I think the 2011 engines have come a long way with the mileage issue.

I have the same exact truck that you have, I added a chip and had the exhaust filter taken out (still passes inspection in Texas and LA) and my MPG went from 11 in the city to 15 and my highway MPG is up over 17 and drive 78-82 mph and all times. Also my horsepower increased by close to 200. Chips in these trucks are amazing. I was out of the warranty period so I went for it. The accleration difference will amaze you. Google Spartan chips for more information.

Dink 05-11-2011 09:38 AM

Change the headbolts in a 6.0 and your good to go.....

Or save yourself the trouble and get the Cummins......I've got 120k on my gas Dodge with no probe. Gas sucks tho!!

Dad has the Cummins and get WAY better milage than I do and can pull anything......he's never had ANY issues with his truck

Next purchase will be a Cummins
