Flats boat?

How does the glass flats boats handle chop to rough water? I fish Toledo bend and river mostly but may do some salt water like Lake Charles but the roughest I get in is Toledo bend and am tryin to decide on my next boat and like how the flats style look and am comparing to a bass boat. I would like 19-21 ft and like somthin like the Sterling or along that design.

I have a action craft 1720se flyfisher. I love it, it gets skinny, handles a chop well. Ive been in some nasty stuff with this boat. It flat out performs! No pun intended. :)

adamsfence 05-05-2011 09:25 PM

do these boats sit higher than bass boats.....i had my brothers this weekend at toledo and water came over the front 2 times on plane...,..i swore if i made it back to land i would not leave my bay boat at home again when its windy

weedeater 05-06-2011 02:19 AM

how are the ranger flats

i am runnin a 15x48 alweld and got ccaught in some bad weather a few weeks back up there and endes up with water in my boat and us soaked fightin good 6ft+ waves and thats scary but i just am havein trouble decideing what to buy next. i dont salt water fish much but i want an all around boat and this style seems like a good fit expecialy if its self bailing for that real bad stuff.

This happens to be a friends boat. Its in great shape and has 3 years left on the motor warranty. Give him a call you wont be dissapointed.

LaAngler 05-06-2011 08:32 AM

florida style flats skiffs come in many sizes & functions (technical poling, hybrid, live bait/big water boats) Generally, they have less hull slap than bay boats b/c of the reverse chines, but take more spray in a crosswind. I fish the gulf on smooth days in a flat.

look at mbcboats.com forum, hewes redfishers, maverick master anglers.

rangers are good solid boats but the models that ride good are a bit heavy, squat a little bad coming out of the hole even though the tank is in front......

I wanted a lake and bay 20-21 for a long time, good light hull with a good vee, but the drawback is it needs a lot of water to plane

Pics?

Pole_benda 07-18-2011 05:44 PM

Fool, I don't think he was talking about the haynie being wrapped. Just the other flats boats were. He just mentioned a Ford was parked there with a biglake411 sticker. I refuse to put a wrap on the boat unless a sponsor decides on paying for it. No free advertisement for no products or money.

Panga 20' Super Skiff
From its basic configuration to the fully rigged version, here’s a go anywhere skiff that’s totally seaworthy, unsinkable and easy handling. It will run in 8" of water, drawing only 6" at rest.

We slam the specks and reds in lake boudreaux with flys in the fall... I have a Gatortrax it isn't fast the other flats boat y'all are talking about but she will get the job done... Plus we can run into the ponds that alot of boats can't get in and slam the reds sight casting...
