Spinning Reel Question
What causes line to twist on a spinning reel? I have tried numerous lines, no luck, Different spinning reels, high dollar, low dollar no luck. Tried different methods of spooling the reels, no luck. The best way I've found is fill the spool then either myself or one my boys grab the line & start walking till it's to the knot, then reel it back up & repeat a couple times till twist are gone, but only last maybe one trip. I fish alot of light line & finesse baits bass fishing. & love a spinning reel for pitching around docks & piers, but it's aggravating!!!!!!!!!!!!
Any suggestions? |

what kind of line you use, mono, braid? braid has always worked on our spinners |
i know that manualling flipping the bail back helps reduce twist and don't reel when a fish is pulling drag that helps too or at least thats what bill dance said on tv lol
i fish with braid and have little twist in my lines |
This is how I learned.:grinpimp:
Step 1 Remove most of the old fishing line off of the spinning reel. Leave just enough line through the spool end of the rod to attach the new fishing line to. Step 2 Make 2 clinch knots to attach the new line to the old. Step 3 Lay the new spool of fishing line on the floor. Position it so that it comes off the new spool exactly as it will go on to the spinning reel. Step 4 Secure the fishing line tightly with your free hand. Slowly turn the spinning reel with your other hand, making sure that the line winds on tightly. Step 5 Fill the spool until it is about an eighth of an inch from the spool tip. This should only require about 50 yards of fishing line. Don't fill the entire spool, or you risk tangling the line. |

The braid won't dig just by setting the hook as long as you spool it TIGHT.Now when you get stuck on something,I carry a small peace of a broomstick to wrap the line around to pull free.Braid on a spinning reel is the only way to go,but I still use mono on my baitcasters.I use to use power pro but now I use sufix braid and it's awesome.

Da Spinners Love Braid
Fool is right, try you some braid; works great for the spinners. Its great for the kids or novice fisher(People) because they can snag it many times and usually not break the line. The less lines they break, the less you tie; and the more you fish.
20LB Power Pro With A 20LB Flouro Leader Via a Double Uni Knot. |
every time you cast if you dont close the bail by hand you will have a 1/4"twist every time so it dont take long to start twisting and wrapping on the rod. Braid in my opionion is the best for spinning reels.

yeah thats a good idea too, thats what i do with my baitcasters.. I sometimes cast my spinning reel's whole bail out when throwing corks on 7 1/2' rod baby! lol I get lazy when its time to restring my poles lol |
You fellas that use braid, are you using the braid tied directly to your lure/bait or do you have a mono leader? I have used braid on several occassions and always used a mono leader. I had horrible problems with the leader breaking because the braid doesn't stretch and breaks the mono. I started using leaders that were heavier pound test than my braid but I still have break offs upon hook set. I started making the leaders longer to allow for some stretch but I still had break offs. I was doing all this in Canada and they would not let you tie directly to the bait with the braid because the braid would wrap around the lake trout and kill the fish (we were only allowed to keep one lake trout a day). Anyway, I gave up on braid after all this so wanted to know if you guys are tying directly to the braid. I know that would solve the problem but I also wondered if the braid tied to the lure would spook fish. Thanks.

I don't really want any drag to slip when I set the hook, but if that is what I have to do to fish with braid then maybe that's what I'll do. Thanks.
