Giving up smoking.

OK guys I'm doing it I on my first day cigarette free, I did bring some nic. gum with me but haven't used any yet. Pray for those around me, oh and me too. This is by far a hard addiction to quit but well worth the effort.:help:

Dink 07-25-2009 03:24 PM

I'm with ya.........back on the Chantix since yesterday..........Wife is working, I have all the kids this weekend............Pray for them too!!!! Good luck to ya..........Tim

huntin fool 07-25-2009 03:26 PM

Good LUCK....ask Salty...how to do it

LittleRob 07-25-2009 03:34 PM

Tim we'll be our own support group, thanks for the encouragement. Tim good luck to you also. Fool learn from our mistakes, don't squat like "W", don't keep small trout, and definately don't pick up the tobacco habit.

Dink 07-25-2009 03:35 PM

Did Salty actually quit?? Last I heard he was still at it, just not as much???

I quit cold turkey 13 years ago. Going from 2 packs a day to none was hard but i made it. didn't have the patch or pills or gum . when i wanted a smoke i grabbed a hot cinnamon toothpick instead. 2 weeks later still no smokes and started cutting back on the toothpicks. 5 weeks no smokes and no toothpicks.

CatDaddy 07-25-2009 04:40 PM

Good luck... When i decided to put them down 3 months ago.. I didnt have no problem,, I put them down and didnt look back.. if you want it bad enough, you can do it..

Dink 07-25-2009 05:13 PM

The bad part is that it's 5oclock on Saturday............nothin can stop whats about to happen..........I don't know what causes it, but every week a glass with little cubes and a pretty smoke brown liquid labeled (jack) attaches itself to my hand.........the only thing that helps me get through it is the smoking..............ugh

longcast 07-25-2009 05:36 PM

DRINK

fishinpox 07-25-2009 06:33 PM

good luck . ive been having a script of chantix on my fridge for almost 2 years but i think it is time for real . i quit drinkin almost 5 years ago but cant seem to break the smokin habbit let me know how it goes

CatDaddy 07-25-2009 06:38 PM

The only thing i miss about smoking is in the morning when i wake up... I like to have one for the "bathroom Influence".... Now it takes me 2 or 3 hours to get things going, and the cramp usually hits me when im fishing, where before i would just burn me one and I was ready... I used to always say that the best "#2 enhancer" is a cigerette and a coffee in the morning.....

bigdog 07-25-2009 06:56 PM

I started smoking when i was 15, about the time id turn 24 waking up in the morning hacking up a lung was not cool. it was time for a change, i quit by making my self sick of it and change my habits. As of right now it been 10 years smoke free. I also help my wife do the same, she is now 1 year smoke free.

Hey Rob and Dink, if you need a sponsor let me know.:)

yep or she said she was. She has surgery on the 13 of Aug, and the doc. said no smoking before the surgery so there's her motivation, she's having that same thing David H had

Dink 07-25-2009 11:02 PM

Dude........your wife's getting a Vasectomy??? I'm kidding of course..........ok, smoke count for today is 8............normally would be a pack.......the drink in my hand increased the number dramaticly

southern151 07-26-2009 07:33 AM

I screwed up last night and got sloppy drunk and picked up a cigarette and then 2 and then 4 and then... I'm kickin myself pretty hard over it right now! That's really the only time that I even want one and still ignore it most of the time. Really though, it hasn't been that bad if you've got it on your mind to stop.

Suthrngntlmn 07-26-2009 08:09 AM

Rob, I quit with the help of Chantix 16 months ago after 35 years of smoking and have never looked back. You just have to make your mind up that that's what you want to do. Best move I ever made and will never regret it. Good luck my friend and stay focused on quiting.

LittleRob 07-26-2009 01:17 PM

Thanks for all the incouragement guys it does help, Tim, Southern, and Rob need all the help we can get. When we make it 3 months we'll have "W" take us fishing, my treat.

I thought we were going to be rewarded for our good ways?!:*****::*****:

I put them down at the beginning of May. With the exception of a couple of times(alcohol induced) I haven't had any real desire to smoke. If you have a rough time on your own, try the Chantix. The stuff really does work!

Hebert 07-26-2009 01:46 PM

good luck Rob..now is the time to do it with the prices shooting up so much....i quit almost 4 yrs ago...i used zyban(wellbutrin)..worked like a charm....took it for 2 weeks and was done... only thing that sucks is i gained 25lbs that wont come off!

biggest thing i can recommend is identify your "triggers" and then you can fight the urges better...or getting rid of those triggers would be even better...

Here is a little helpfull joke for you Rob....

A doctor on his morning walk, noticed an older lady with a crown sitting on her front step smoking a cigar, so he walked up to her and said, "I couldn't help but notice how happy you look! What is your secret?"
"I smoke ten cigars a day," she said. "Before I go to bed, I smoke a nice big joint. Apart from that, I drink a whole bottle of Jack Daniels every week, and eat only junk food. On weekends, I pop pills, get laid, and don't exercise at all."

"That is absolutely amazing! How old are you?"

"Thirty-four," she replied.

sulphurboy 07-26-2009 02:37 PM

almost 2 years for me

october 29th will be 2 years for me...chantix was the way i did it. i've had a few bad days since then, but its been well worth it.

BIG-PAPA 07-26-2009 03:20 PM

it has been almost 3 months since ive smoked a cigarette...get you some plastic tooth picks to chew on thats what helped me

LittleRob 07-28-2009 09:49 AM

Day 4 and no one has died yet

Finfeatherfur 07-28-2009 10:24 AM

Guys, I can tell you this from experieince. I started smoking at 18 while a senior in high school. I went through college and working as a paramedic smoking, even getting up to two packs a day. My dad smoked and my grandfather smoked, so it was around me from a young age. I got remarried and my wife was on me to stop, but I continued to smoke, and I was one that smoked for several reasons: bored, stress, drinking, eating, but mainly because I enjoyed a cigarette. Then my kids went through DARE at school and started asking me to quit. That changed me forever!

Once the kids got through to me to stop, I made a choice and realized I needed to do it for them as much as me. I got on Chantix and after several weeks of dedication, I stopped taking the pills and doing all the stuff associated with the therapy. I have not smoked in almost 3 years.

I no longer have sinus problems, smokers cough, smelly clothes, are other things associated with smoking. It was the hardest thing I ever did, but I was able to make it and so can you! Rob/Dink, when it gets bad (and trust me, it will get bad), log on and BS on Saltycajun! We'll be here for you! Good luck!

Those pounds will come......and be hard to loose.

Please don't "let" the weight gain start!!!!!!!!!!!

Ray 07-28-2009 09:03 PM

I gave up Skoal in '91. That was one of the hardest thing I ever done.
I liked it, but was too cheap to pay $1.50/can. That is the main reason I quit.
Glad I did. Then I could spend more on beer.

Ray after my weekend with Salty Im going to try to quit to. Been dipping since I was 15 and rodeing Quit smoking 5 yrs ago cold turkey but dipping thats another one by itself

Ray 07-28-2009 09:17 PM

I had a friend who dipped, but didn't buy. When hunting ducks, he would always bum Skoal. He never brought any with him. One day while hunting, I took a dip and he held his hand out to take the can. I gave it to him and he took a dip.
When I was finished and there was no more taste in the Skoal, I put it back in the can and popped it a few times to mix it up with the new Skoal. He never asked for a dip from me again.
