Hey Cat,
My Dad used to work at Channel 9 in Baton Rouge back in the early 70's, he said they would film the interviews & the matches right at the station, he said afterwards they all would get in the same car & go to the bar!:*****:

Hacksaw the best...Last year was forced to take my 9 year old....well he was 8 at the time to the Cajun Dome for WWE event or whatever it is called now. He was into the wrestling thing last year. Well guess who was on the card...OLE HACKSAW..I used to watch him when it was old MID-South wrestling. I forgot who he fought but he was still a blast with the 2X4. Dude has to be over 50.....He had a beer belly from HELL!

Some of the wrestlers used to come work out at the football weight room at ULL when they were in town at the cajun dome...I stood next to the rock...pretty cool they had some other guys but I didn't follow wrestling at that time and didn't know who they were...but the guys that did were all bug eyed!! That was cool...

LMAO... I heard that to, but when i was a kid i didnt want to beleive that. I would get all ticked off and want to wrestle when someone told me it was fake.

CatDaddy 07-22-2009 04:17 PM

BTW.... the second dude is "The Missing Link".... anybody remember him?

express07 07-22-2009 04:48 PM

I was at the Cajundome with my kids for that WWE thing a few years ago and saw Hacksaw. I couldn't believe he was still wrestling. I saw Hacksaw take on Andre the Giant when I was in high school, Andre was near the end of his career and could barely stand up in the ring. It was sad. The movie "the Wrestler" with Mickey Rourke is a pretty good story, check it out.

express07 07-22-2009 04:52 PM

Was the missing link the one that they would announce as "From parts unknown", did he have the green tongue?

I used to tell my great grandmother that it was all fake. She wore my arse out every time. I remember when Mid-South came to the Goretti gym, she bought tickets, and invited me to go with her so she could show me it wasn't fake. I was embarrassed once the show started. This little woman that couldn't have weighed 75lbs soaking wet said words I shouldn't have heard at my age back then. Good thing they had security there also, she would have been in the ring with them.

If I remember right she was a J.Y.D. fan.

Warren

speckdaddy 07-23-2009 06:52 PM

jyd was the man!!! i remember he would enter the ring toting a darn wheelbarrow!! great great memories..what about the von ericks?

DCBCTodd 07-24-2009 10:01 PM

Hey guys! If you don't mind I need to correct you! Y'all are calling these guys WRESTLERS...they are not WRESTLERS...they are RASSLERS...I loved watching these guys every week when I was a kid. I got to see them several times at the Rapides Parish Coliseum and even a couple of times at the Rec Center in Oakdale! These guys were real RASSLERS...WWE or whatever it is called is just a soap opera.
