Any one garden?

Going to get back to a small garden this year......
Anyone square foot garden?
What's your top five have to plant vegetables??

Ducktrickster 02-13-2011 10:43 AM

Had square foot. Must have vegetables are eggplant, bell pepper, cherry tomatoes, anaheim peppers, onion tops.

Buck_Naked 02-13-2011 11:13 AM

Not sure what "small is" but mine is 16 x 16. 4 rows: cherry tomatoes, kentucky bush beans(snap beans; 1 entire row, plenty!), banana peppers, bell pepers, eggplant. Basically, 2 landscape timbers wide by 2 length.

Yard is too small (thank goodness) The last house we lived in had a huge backyard we loved it at first, til about 3 years of mowing that sucker. I am really enjoying my neighbors satsuma tree though. I find about 3 satsumas in my yard each morning:p

I have a piece of cattle fence with 3 t post that I use for a trestle to grow my cucumbers on.

I also have a blackberry vine

Shawn Braquet 02-16-2011 09:52 PM

gerald are you going back with pole beans or are you gonna try bush this year? Thought I remembered you saying that your pole beans didn't produce like you wanted. I planted contender bush beans in my winter garden and had a lot of success. just curious, sure would be more convienent to pick the beans without having to bend down as much!!

I will stick with the Pole beans......to old to bend over. Would rather climb a ladder to get the high one. I will move the beans to the other side of the garden to see if that does better.

I talked to a guy and he was telling me that I might be putting too much ferterlizer for the beans. He said that beans don't like much ferterlizer.

I started cleaning up the garden a couple of days ago, getting it ready. I will probably wait 3+ weeks before planting depending on what the Temperature forcast looks like.

2ndamendment 02-17-2011 09:56 PM

The next few days I will be tilling up the garden getting it ready. Typical plantings are tomatoes, bell peppers, cucumbers, egg plant and green onions.

Shawn Braquet 02-17-2011 11:20 PM

I got a chance to disc my garden again today(makes the 3rd time) and only stuck my tractor twice so i guess the ground is finally starting to dry up:shaking:, gonna try and make one row for my potatos tommorrow so i can hopefully get them in the ground next week, other than that I will spread triple 13 out this weekend and disc another 2 or 3 times then row up the whole thing, then I'll be ready to plant the rest.

jchief 02-19-2011 09:07 PM

Planted the taters Wed. Getting ready for everything else, tomatoes, peppers, melons, cantaloupes, squash, beans.

Shawn, you got a row maker with your tractor?
